Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 432: Chapter 229: The Out-of-Control Enforcer

Wu Chang pretended not to notice Raymond, methodically searching for intelligence.

The way he gathered intelligence was neither like Booker and Colton who used conversation to find suspicious information, nor like Veronica who directly used force to brutally extract intelligence.

His method of finding the assassin was to wait for the prey to come to him.

First, he found a manager from Hymn Company who was active on Donau Street, followed behind him, and used his chosen target as bait, waiting for the assassin to reveal themselves.

The wait-for-the-prey method was inefficient and highly random, but it had one advantage: it made it easier for Raymond to approach him.

The target Wu Chang had his eyes on at the moment was Martin, an old black man with dreadlocks and a big gold chain.

At an emergency security meeting this morning, Mo Ke divided Wild City into more than twenty areas based on the crime regions, activity ranges, and crime timings of the assassins, rated from low to high danger levels.

Donau Street was one of the medium danger areas, and Martin was the intelligence department supervisor responsible for investigating this area.

As a former agent, Martin was professional in the field of intelligence and security.

He could don a suit, transform into a social elite, visit skyscrapers, and report business affairs with a perfect old London accent in front of hundreds of people; or he could, like now, appear with dreadlocks, tattoos, and a big gold chain, with two F**ks in a sentence.

Anyone who saw Martin now would think he was some street lowlife, a thoroughbred of such for three generations, and no one would associate him with a level seven manager of Hymn Company.

Unless someone had already obtained his file, knew his appearance and traits, and roughly understood his activity range tonight based on the personnel distribution map.

Like Wu Chang.

After he agreed to help the Security Department search for the assassin, as one of the persons in charge of this operation, he gained access to the list of employees from the Security Department participating in this operation.

He relied on Martin’s intelligence to lock onto Martin, and Raymond, who was following behind him, used him to lock onto Martin.

But Martin himself knew nothing about all this.

He continued to play his role, pulling two crumpled bills from his pocket, buying a small package from a black brother in the alley.

He generously shared half the package with the other party, then waited for the other to feel the effect, and started to casually extract information.

Due to the requirements of Federation laws and to protect citizens’ privacy rights, even in a large city like Wild City, there are still many areas that surveillance cameras cannot cover.

These drug dealers living in the alleys are the living cameras.

They mostly grew up in this neighborhood and have a heightened sensitivity to strangers.

The tough life at the bottom also makes them very adept at self-preservation. In case of danger, they have various ways to hide and avoid being discovered by danger.

Their skin color is their protective color; squatting in the shadows, as long as they don’t show their teeth, no one can spot where they are hiding.

According to Martin’s experience, these people often provide unexpected clues.

Like now, the old bloke high off his face in front of him revealed that, three days ago, his cousin drank too much, fell into a trash can, and passed out. When he opened his eyes in the middle of the night, he vaguely saw a mysterious person dragging a big shot and questioning them. ℯℯ𝑙.

During the questioning, the Hymn Company’s name vaguely came up.

Martin suppressed his inner excitement and tentatively asked, ”Can you introduce me to that cousin of yours? I heard someone from Hymn Company is looking for that guy, and the bounty is hefty.”

The drug dealer scoffed, ”You want me to be a snitch? Those Hymn Company bastards deserve to be killed.”

Martin said, ”I have the inside track, providing a lead can earn you sixty thousand Federation Coins.”

The drug dealer immediately pulled out his phone, ”Wait, I’m contacting my cousin now, the bounty split is at least 30/70, less than that and we’re done talking!”

Just as the drug dealer took out his phone, suddenly a noose dropped from above, around his neck. In the next moment, a masked figure dressed in black, pulling the rope from above, hoisted the drug dealer into the air like raising a flag.

Martin realized something was wrong, reached for the gun in his waistband, but the masked figure on the ground kicked it away first.

Martin prepared to fight the masked figure, but when he looked up, he met a pair of deep pupils, and it seemed like the depths of the ocean were in those eyes, causing him to lose control over his body.

The masked man searched Martin, retrieving two more guns, a combat knife, and a small high-energy smart grenade from him.

”You don’t need to go through the trouble of finding me because I’ll come for each one of you actively.”

At this moment, Wu Chang True Self, who had been following Martin, seemed to finally realize something was wrong, hurriedly rushed into the alley, shouting to the masked man:

”Stop!”

The masked man did not stop upon seeing True Self rushing into the alley; instead, he pressed the gun against Martin’s forehead and pulled the trigger directly.

Bam!

Martin’s head exploded on the spot.

Wu Chang seemed angered by the masked man’s actions. He blocked the exit of the alley, angrily saying:

”Assassin, you won’t escape today.”

Masked Raymond looked at Wu Chang True Self and said calmly, ”Is that how you talk to your savior?”

Wu Chang frowned and asked, ”What do you mean?”

Raymond replied, ”Need me to give you a hint, two nights ago.”

Two nights ago was exactly when Wu Chang and the others entered the secondary plane.
