Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 162: Chapter 142: I’ll Let You Live a Little Longer

One way is if the user is the Gravekeeper; the other is if the position of the Gravekeeper is vacant and the oil lamp is without an owner.

Wu Chang glanced at the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect’s oil lamp. At the edges of the lamp’s base, there was fresh blood not yet wiped clean. The origin of the oil lamp was self-evident.

Moving through the dense fog, the surroundings were dead silent; the sound of the carriage crushing tombstones was exceptionally grating.

Wu Chang suddenly stopped in his tracks, almost causing the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect, who was following closely behind, to bump into him.

”What is it?” the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect asked.

”Your Excellency, Bishop, I feel their actions are still inappropriate. Everyone will be residents here in the future, seeing each other frequently. And they’re too noisy, it’s easy to...”

The Bishop of the Soul Light Sect, red with anger, shouted: ”Listen, Gravekeeper, you have made me repeat myself too many times, I said...”

”Did you see the moon?”

Bishop of the Soul Light Sect: ”No, and don’t interrupt me when I am talking! I...”

Hmm?

The Bishop of the Soul Light Sect paused mid-sentence, realizing the interjecting voice didn’t seem to belong to Wu Chang.

Before entering the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery, he had carefully read the Gravekeeper’s nightly patrol taboos and it seemed to mention not to answer questions from strangers.

This is bad.

Before the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect was prepared, his whole body was lifted up; a giant hand of flesh and blood stitched with thorns emerged from the ground, flinging him into the air, then tightly gripping him before he could react.

The thorns acting as stitches on the flesh and blood hand came to life, like centipedes, burrowing into the body of the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect.

”Help!”

With the Bishop’s cry for help, several Knights following behind took action, especially five old aristocrats pretending to be Knights, who immediately dismembered the hand of flesh and blood.

Since the Blood Moon had not yet appeared, the hand of flesh and blood was cut into dozens of pieces and did not immediately regenerate.

Although they acted quickly, after being squeezed and pierced, the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect had two ribs broken by the hand, and his limbs, shoulders, and mouth were pierced through by thorns, leaving bloodied gaping wounds.

Wu Chang shrugged as he looked at the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect’s miserable state and said, ”I wanted to warn you, making noise at times like these would attract these monsters.”

”I mmph mmph mmph...”

The Bishop of the Soul Light Sect, his mouth pierced into a huge blood hole, spoke very indistinctly, but from his expression and eyes, it seemed he was cursing quite fiercely.

The voice of Duke Luz came from inside the carriage.

”First, take Bishop Rev back to the carriage for treatment, then disperse the formation and clear away anything blocking the way.”

An ordinary Knight of the Soul Light Sect supported the Bishop back to the carriage to treat his wounds, while the other Knights dispersed in various locations for a careful inspection.

Possibly taking Wu Chang’s advice, the two coachmen began choosing roads a bit wider to reduce damage to the tombstones.

With the change in strategy, or perhaps due to the outcome for the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect, they encountered no further obstacles and soon arrived at the designated location.

Duke Luz stepped out of the carriage, pointing to Wu Chang and Han’er, and said, ”The time is almost up. You two patrol the area to see if you can spot any anomalies.”

The two followed the map marked by the Bishop of the Soul Light Sect and quickly patrolled the last two areas. Wu Chang asked in a low voice:

”Since they’ve already confirmed the place, why do they still need us to participate?”

Han’er said, ”Because we are Gravekeepers. The Eternal Life Tomb Chamber they are looking for is very special. It is the core arrangement of the entire Great Cemetery, protected by the Blood Moon Ceremony. They cannot discover it. Only the Gravekeeper responsible for the area can use the power granted by the ceremony to find some clues.”

When Wu Chang reached the innermost side of the first unmarked graveyard, he suddenly had an inspiration, sensing that there seemed to be traces of a door on the ground not far away.

He pressed down on his active inspiration with his will and saw no anomaly with the naked eye.

”Brother Han’er, can you see anything over there?”

Following Wu Chang’s pointing finger, Han’er widened his eyes and looked for a minute, then shook his head and said, ”I can’t see anything. It seems only the current Gravekeeper can find the entrance to the special Eternal Life Tomb Chamber.”

Wu Chang first had Han’er move a little distance away, in case when the Eternal Life Tomb Chamber was excavated, Duke Luz turned hostile and wanted to get rid of the both of them, Han’er should protect himself first and not worry about him.

Then he surveyed the surroundings, letting Erin and his True Self seize advantageous positions so that if chaos broke out, they could catch the opponent off guard.

Seeing everyone was in position, he returned to the caravan and said to Luz:

”Your Grace, Duke, I’ve found an abnormal tomb, not sure if it’s what you’re looking for.”

Luz’s face lit up with joy, hurriedly saying, ”Let’s go check it out first.”

Wu Chang led everyone to the designated location; Luz and several nobles disguised as Knights took turns approaching to confirm.

These creatures, who had experienced the first Blood Moon Eternal Life, were particularly sensitive to Blood Moon Energy, akin to Pasto, able to somewhat sense other Eternal Life Tombs through their perception of Blood Moon Energy.

But like Han’er, they didn’t find any abnormalities.

However, sometimes, not finding abnormalities is the biggest anomaly.

Luz personally handed Wu Chang a hoe and said, ”Dig!”

Looking at the hoe in his hand, Wu Chang showed a difficult expression. ”The commission only mentioned for me to open the door, it didn’t say anything about digging. Digging is hard labor, it’ll cost extra.”

Luz, not wasting any words, directly took off the Gemstone Ring from his hand and tossed it to Wu Chang.
