Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 152: Chapter 139: Seizing the Lamp Wick

Inside the Gravekeeper’s wooden hut, Wu Chang, following Han’er’s instructions, released a crow with an iron ring marked with 44 from his leg.

In less than an hour, the sound of horse hooves, slow and steady, came from the distant woods. Bells hung from the horse’s neck, ringing with the sway of the black carriage.

A carriage, pitch black in its entirety, with even the horse being pure black, appeared in front of the Gravekeeper’s wooden hut.

A black-clothed man jumped down from the carriage, his chest open, with a large Soul Fire tattooed on it.

The black-clothed man was a collector from the Soul Light Sect, specifically tasked to reclaim bodies awakened by the Blood Moon Power.

Wu Chang lifted the rug on the ground, revealing five living corpses with exploded heads, their bodies still twitching slightly.

”All here.”

”So many?” The collector was startled. Normally, they reclaimed bodies one or two at a time, even three at once was rare.

Resurrecting five bodies at once, if they were to recover midway, it would be difficult for him to handle alone.

Wu Chang, unfazed, said, ”The cemetery has been busy these days, lots of things crawling out.”

In fact, all five bodies were found by him using the Soul Cleansing Banner, one by one from the ground, and to make up the numbers, he even went to the adjacent cemetery 45.

The five living corpses were unearthed and had their heads blown off before they even woke up.

The collector took out a crystal, and when placed on the living corpses, the crystal instantly turned red.

Clearly, the collector had his own autopsy methods; using ordinary corpses to pose as living corpses wouldn’t fool them.

Seeing the five bodies flash red, the collector’s expression improved somewhat. He glanced at Wu Chang and said, ”10 gold coins per body, a total of fifty coins, someone will deliver them to you by tomorrow evening.”

”Wait, isn’t this amount incorrect?” Han’er came out of the Gravekeeper’s wooden hut.

The collector saw Han’er and asked curiously, ”Why haven’t you left yet?”

Han’er approached and whispered, ”The appointed day is the day after tomorrow, how can I leave now?”

The collector nodded, finding Han’er’s reason very sound, and said, ”I’m not underpricing, the Blood Moon Energy within these bodies is very faint, all substandard products, but given your acquaintance, I’ll still count them as 20 gold coins each.”

”Since you’re here, there are too many bodies on the carriage, I’m afraid I can’t manage them alone, accompany me to deliver them back.”

”No problem. Sean, you stay and watch the house, and I’ll take this trip with him.” Han’er waved at Wu Chang and started helping the collector load the corpses onto the carriage.

Once the two finished loading the living corpses and left with the carriage, the collector failed to notice that there was an additional person inside the carriage.

Wu Chang’s True Self had already triggered Social Phobia, and he followed the carriage headed for Sirena City District.

The carriage sent to reclaim the living corpses did not enter the Soul Light Cathedral directly but circled around the city a few times before entering a small road that led into an underground passage.

At the end of the underground passage was a massive catacomb styled burial chamber with seven or eight similar carriages parked here, all freshly returned from reclaiming living corpses, queued up to unload.

Judging from the direction of the carriage’s movement, they were currently located beneath the Soul Light Cathedral.

When Wu Chang probed the Soul Light Cathedral with his Spirit Body, he specifically searched the top floor and underground, discovering a total of four secret chambers, two of which were underground, their confidentiality specs exceeding even those of the top-floor chambers.

Previously, during reconnaissance, he hadn’t found the route to infiltrate the secret chambers, never expect that one would need to enter from the cathedral’s external passage.

Taking advantage of the time when the collector and Han’er were unloading, Wu Chang slipped into the depths of the catacomb following other collectors.

The catacomb was bustling, visible were collectors dragging living corpses into various workshops for disassembly and reassembly, processed through four or five procedures, they were fired into special bricks.

These special bricks were the source of the Soul Light Cathedral’s intimidating Power.

The special bricks were loaded into carts and handed over to clergy dressed in white priest robes, who then transported them to designated areas to gradually replace the ordinary stone bricks.

With the new batch of living corpse bricks just out of the kiln, a topless collector struggled to push the cart to the delivery area.

The frail-built priest taking the cart’s handle gave a strong pull but couldn’t move it initially.

”Doll, why are today’s bricks so heavy?”

The collector known as Doll wiped his sweat and replied, equally puzzled, ”Probably due to the bones inside the bricks.”

The priest exerted more force, nearly hurting his back, finally managing to pull the cart away.

The priest brought the cart to the edge of a lift, engaging the lever at the entrance, then rang the bell three times.

Above the lift, three bell rings echoed, followed by the sound of mechanical gears, as the lift slowly ascended.

Ringing the bell three times indicated ascending three levels.

Passing by the second layer of the catacomb, Wu Chang sensed a familiar aura and stepped off the lift, jumping into the underground second layer.

Due to the presence of the secret chambers, the underground second layer was heavily guarded, with two strong guards visible every few meters along the corridor.

The number of guards was high, and their quality was equally good. Judging by their aura, each guard had stats comparable to a near-level 20 Player, with Items to issue alerts by their side.

Even if Lei Hu were here, he wouldn’t be able to forcefully pass through the corridor without triggering alarms.

However, while the guards’ bodies were robust, their perception was quite lacking, unable to detect Wu Chang, who had activated Social Phobia and initiated advanced Concealment.
