Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 159: Chapter 141: The Commission Begins 2

Facing the Erosion Core beneath the Tree of Miracles, Wu Chang hesitated. If it were an Erosion Core condensed after a normal dungeon breakthrough, he wouldn’t hesitate to let the Mortal Poison devour it.

But this time was different; he could sense that the Erosion Core before him belonged to the Midnight Graveyard Dungeon.

He couldn’t be sure what effect destroying the dungeon’s Erosion Core before the breakthrough would have on the dungeon.

Would it simply reset the dungeon’s pollution level to zero, or would it be considered a direct destruction of the dungeon, triggering an immediate settlement.

If it were an ordinary dungeon, he might gamble, but not this dungeon.

Whether it was the desire to fulfill his current wish to eliminate hidden dangers, or the grudge of the Miracle Moon turning from red to black, these were things he was determined to obtain without any mishaps.

Even if absorbing the Erosion Core wouldn’t collapse the dungeon, being too ruthless might drive the Peaceful Sect mad, leading to the direct destruction of the Midnight Cemetery Dungeon.

After weighing the pros and cons, he chose to exit the secret chamber. ℯ

He decided to temporarily entrust the Erosion Core to the Peaceful Sect and retrieve it after completing the dungeon breakthrough.

Exiting the secret chamber, he didn’t continue to explore the Soul Light Cathedral, nor did he follow the original plan to dispel the Power within the Soul Light Cathedral.

The gains for tonight were already sufficient, and he had stimulated the Fire Master enough; you reap crop by crop, you can’t rush it all at once.

The Fire Master declared that the Soul Light Cathedral had caught fire and needed urgent repairs, sealing it off for an entire day.

In that single day, every guard conducted a carpet search, inspecting every inch of the cathedral.

Even a mosquito that flew out had to be stopped, identified as male or female, and then released.

Foreigners like Han’er, even if they acted under the Recoveryer’s watchful eyes the entire time, were still questioned thoroughly, with the Fire Master even personally checking on them once.

The result, of course, was nothing found.

The lockdown lasted until the night of the second day, and they finally couldn’t maintain it, as the Blood Moon Night arrived.

As an important participant of the Blood Moon Night, Han’er, having cleared his suspicion, was allowed out of the Soul Light Cathedral. He took the Recoveryer’s carriage and returned to the Gravekeeper’s hut by dusk.

Waving goodbye to the Recoveryer, Han’er turned to Wu Chang who emerged from the wooden hut and asked curiously, ”What exactly did you do to make the Soul Light Sect so furious?”

Wu Chang shrugged and said, ”With such a commotion that night, you should have caught wind of it.”

Han’er looked around guiltily, leaned in, and whispered, ”Did you really steal their sacred artifact?”

Wu Chang curled his lips in dissatisfaction, ”Among us believers, how can it be considered stealing? It’s merely a fair contest over sacred artifacts due to differing faith positions, and in the end, the artifact chose me.”

Han’er waved it off, uninterested in Wu Chang’s explanation, and eagerly asked, ”Can I take a look?”

”It’s not the right time now, you’ll find out soon enough,” Wu Chang teased him with a mystery and returned to the Gravekeeper’s wooden hut, grabbing an oil lamp and a shovel to start the night patrol with Erin.

Han’er had an appointment with a client during the early hours, but before that, he needed to complete a shift of night patrol.

It’s not yet time for a dungeon breakthrough, so being a Gravekeeper for a day means seeking a night’s worth of work. It’s not worth it if the completion rate is deducted due to absenteeism.

After walking for only five minutes in the cemetery, Wu Chang saw a living corpse not far away, staggering toward him. He skillfully swung his shovel and knocked down the living corpse.

The living corpse, hit by the shovel, immediately ceased moving, not requiring purification by the Soul Cleansing Banner and not rising again.

As the most experienced Gravekeeper present, Han’er immediately noticed the abnormality and asked, ”What happened in the Great Tomb while I was locked in the Soul Light Cathedral for that day?”

Wu Chang shrugged, pretending to be relaxed, ”Nothing much, just that a few Gravekeepers died the day before yesterday, and last night, the grave area they were guarding lost control, that’s all.”

While True Self was hiding with Social Phobia yesterday, Wu Chang’s main body wasn’t idle outside.

During the patrol, he noticed that living corpses kept coming over from Cemetery No. 43.

These living corpses had only a thin amount of Blood Moon Power inside them, so thin that it only allowed them to stand up once. They just needed to be knocked down, and the Blood Moon Power would dissipate.

After finishing his patrol, he went over to take a look with advanced Concealment activated.

What he saw was shocking. Grave areas 40 to 43 had been completely overrun, with hundreds of living corpses crawling out from the ground.

Though fragile, these living corpses, transformed by the Blood Moon Power, were exceptionally strong, with their attributes not inferior to the Black Mountain Bandits in Peace Forevermore.

The Gravekeeper guarding Cemetery No. 42 was a Berserker with half-orc blood, possessing a strength specialty and a close combat fighting style. They were the last person who didn’t get to introduce themselves that day.

Of the eight players, his skill was the weakest. Coupled with the fact that he was involved in close combat and a life-and-death, take-one-to-give-one style, against a wise dungeon boss, his momentum might intimidate them, allowing him to seize the battle rhythm and achieve victory by the weaker over the stronger.

But when faced with mindless, numerous living corpses, his Berserker’s life-and-death strategy quickly turned into a suicidal one.

When in a sea of monsters, even if he could kill ten living corpses at a time, as soon as he left an opening and got touched by a living corpse, over time, he wouldn’t be able to sustain his health.

Just as Wu Chang expected, he watched with his own eyes as the Berserker transformed into a green-skinned orc, charging into the horde of living corpses, creating mayhem everywhere, but in less than five minutes, he was in full retreat.
