The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 50: Chapter 49: Making Porridge with a Wok

Fu Yu finished cooking four pots of seafood porridge and handed the pots to the assistant next to him for washing.

When Zhao Meng turned around, he was busy cutting up seafood with his head down.

The assistant responsible for packing returned from the shelf and received a glare from Zhao Meng.

Zhao Meng chastised, ”Put more heart into your work!”

Assistant: ”...Okay, Chef Zhao.”

Grumbling internally: Dammit, Chef Zhao is venting his anger again. How unlucky, should have taken a detour earlier...

Fu Yu was busy working when Zhang Jiaxin approached.

”Chef Gu asked me to come and help.”

Fu Yu looked up to greet him, ”Alright, thank you for your hard work.”

Then he lowered his head and continued his work.

The assistant responsible for washing the pots handed over a cleaned pan, ”Fu Yu, the pot is cleaned.”

Fu Yu, holding a crab, said to Zhang Jiaxin, ”Help me take the pot.”

Zhang Jiaxin nodded, took the pan, and casually hung it on the wall beside him. ”What else do you need me to do?”

Fu Yu turned his head and glanced, ”Hey! Just leave the pan on the stove, we still have 22 servings to go, three pots will be enough.”

Zhang Jiaxin was momentarily stunned, but still nodded, ”Okay.”

The basin next to Fu Yu was already filled with chopped seafood, and Zhang Jiaxin came over to help with the washing.

Fu Yu turned around to take the pre-rinsed rice from the assistant and mixed it with oil.

When Zhang Jiaxin returned with the clean seafood pieces, he saw three pans already on the heat with water boiling.

Zhang Jiaxin was stunned. Isn’t there hot water? Why deliberately boil it???

He then saw Fu Yu pouring an amount of rice into the three pans.

Zhang Jiaxin was instantly dumbfounded!

”Aren’t you going to make porridge in the pan?”

Fu Yu: ”Yes, using the pan!”

Zhang Jiaxin was shocked for a while, then turned to look at the busy Zhao Meng.

Suddenly enlightened, this must be Chef Zhao’s instructions.

After all, the customer demanded the 80 portions of seafood porridge set delivered to the central square by 10 o’clock.

With only four stoves, it’s absolutely impossible to deliver on time.

Special circumstances require special responses.

”Let me help you stir it.”

Zhang Jiaxin proactively took a wooden spatula, preparing to help keep an eye on it to avoid burning the bottom.

Fu Yu casually said, ”Oh, no need, I’ve already adjusted the heat, it won’t burn at the bottom.”

Zhang Jiaxin furrowed his brows, not saying anything, but felt that Fu Yu was getting a bit cocky!

They both cook over a stove, but Fu Yu is acting a bit too overconfident.

This is a pan, not a non-stick pan.

Making porridge is very prone to sticking and burning; if by accident it sticks to the bottom, the burnt smell will ruin a whole pot of porridge.

Zhang Jiaxin hesitated for a moment, but eventually hung the spatula back up.

Since Fu Yu already rejected his help, there was no need for him to insist warmly.

Half a minute later, the water boiled.

Zhang Jiaxin looked at Fu Yu.

Fu Yu remained indifferent.

A minute later, the rice grains began to stir.

Fu Yu remained indifferent.

Three minutes later, the rice soup became completely murky, and the aroma of seafood spread.

Fu Yu remained indifferent.

Ten minutes later, the waterline noticeably dropped, and the rice grains began to swell.

Fu Yu remained indifferent.

Zhang Jiaxin: ”...”

Are you really going to just leave it like that?

At this rate, it’s about to burn the bottom soon, no, it must have already burned the bottom, haven’t you noticed the rising steam starting to coagulate?

Zhang Jiaxin hesitated for a while but still said to Fu Yu, ”Fu Yu, shouldn’t we stir this pot?”

Fu Yu responded oh, grabbed a spatula, and casually stirred the three pans.

Sure enough, there was not a bit sticking to the bottom, and the heat was controlled exceptionally well.

Half an hour later, Fu Yu announced that the seafood porridge was done.

Immediately, an assistant came over with packing boxes.

Fu Yu packaged the seafood porridge one by one.

Some extra portions were placed in small bowls, which he planned to save for a midnight snack.

Another assistant took the pans to be washed.

Zhang Jiaxin was shocked to see the pans used.

The bottoms of the pans were incredibly clean, without a trace of burning.

Are these non-stick pans?

No, it can’t be, they have the same ordinary iron pans we have.

Even though the brand is good and the price is high, they are merely of good quality, not non-stick!

After all, in the kitchen, unless for frying food, non-stick pans aren’t used easily, since chefs use iron spatulas and spoons, which can damage the coating.

Besides, non-stick pans aren’t as handy as regular pans.

Zhang Jiaxin wondered if there was something wrong with his eyes.

So, he moved closer and said proactively, ”I’ll wash the pan.”

He took the pan, and when no one was looking, he felt the bottom with his hand.

It truly wasn’t burnt.

This pan!

It was indeed their usual regular pan!

Zhang Jiaxin: ”...”

When he looked at Fu Yu again, Zhang Jiaxin’s gaze was different.

The assistant carrying the packed seafood porridge placed them on the shelf, announcing, ”80 portions of seafood porridge completed!”

Fu Yu suddenly heard an electronic notification sound in his ear:

[Ding! NPC Master Chef Zhao Meng has released an urgent timed task: Please complete cooking 80 portions of seafood porridge within two hours, successfully completed, reward: 200 yuan, 3 skill points, task experience +100]

The next second, his phone vibrated, cash received.

Fu Yu breathed a long sigh of relief.

The task was completed.

He hadn’t even relaxed when he heard Zhao Meng incredulously ask, ”How many portions of seafood porridge are finished?”

The assistant truthfully replied, ”80 portions!”

Zhao Meng couldn’t care about his work, he went to look at the packing bags on the shelf first.

Stacked in four full layers.

Zhao Meng turned around to see Fu Yu casually wiping down the kitchen counter, and couldn’t help but walk over quickly, whispering with a stern face, ”Did you cut corners?”

The cooking time for seafood porridge is supposed to be half an hour, ensuring the rice grains are thoroughly cooked.

To complete 80 portions of seafood porridge in such a short time, unless each box had less porridge.

If you serve less, naturally you’d have more portions.

Otherwise, the cooking time must not have been enough.

Zhao Meng is always strict with himself and harsh on others when it comes to work!

Without a rigorous work ethic, one doesn’t deserve to be a chef.

After all, the food coming out of the kitchen is for customers to eat, leaving no room for negligence.

Fu Yu, who had used the pan on his own, gave an embarrassed smile and was about to explain.

Zhang Jiaxin, having washed the pan and returned, saw Zhao Meng and quickly greeted him, ”Chef Zhao, the seafood porridge is all packaged. Is there anything else you need me to do?”

Zhao Meng was taken aback, ”You came over to help? Oh, no, you can go back.”

Zhang Jiaxin agreed and hung the pan back on the wall.

Zhao Meng couldn’t help but glare at Fu Yu, ”Chef Gu sent someone over to help and you had them washing pans?”

Zhang Jiaxin heard this and hurriedly explained, ”No, Chef Zhao, I insisted on washing the pans. The main thing is that Chef Gu asked me to help, but Fu Yu managed to do everything on his own and I couldn’t find a place to help, so I thought I’d find something to do.”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Meng became increasingly frustrated.

With someone to help in the kitchen, why not make good use of them, do you need to go through everything yourself?

Moreover, Zhang Jiaxin was also unobservant.

If Fu Yu is preparing 80 portions of seafood porridge by himself, he’s definitely busy.

But he just stood there watching and ended up washing pans!

There are plenty of people to wash pans, does it have to be him!

Zhao Meng felt angry with Fu Yu for not being smart, unable to learn how to delegate tasks.

He also felt a bit sorry for Fu Yu, wanting to protect and support him.

Zhao Meng looked at Zhang Jiaxin, ”What’s the point of washing pans? The porridge is cooked in a clay pot, right?”

Fu Yu quickly tried to explain.

Zhang Jiaxin already said, ”No, Fu Yu used the pan to cook the porridge.”

Zhao Meng: ”!”

Cooking porridge in a pan!!

Zhao Meng was instantly exasperated.

This is even worse than cutting corners!
