The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 39: Chapter 38: Returning Customer

[Ding! NPC Dough Chef Ren Mingqing Favorability +5]

[Ding! NPC Head Chef Zhang Zhen Favorability -5]

Fu Yu was just waiting to be praised, when the sudden favorability alert made his expression freeze!

What the heck?

How come making some dumplings didn’t increase favorability, and instead it went down?

Fu Yu instinctively looked at Zhang Zhen.

He saw Zhang Zhen frowning at the dumplings on the plate.

What’s the situation?

Then he looked at Ren Mingqing and saw him looking at him with a pleasantly surprised expression.

He was obviously very satisfied with the newly made dumplings.

Is Zhang Zhen...jealous?

Fu Yu considered this possibility.

Sigh...

No choice, who asked his new star of the kitchen title to be so awesome.

...

Ren Mingqing had been assigned from dough making to the hot kitchen area and was a bit uneasy, so he came over to take a look.

Now that he had seen it and given his guidance, it was time to leave.

Before leaving, he specially chatted with Fu Yu for a bit.

He hinted to Fu Yu, in various ways, not to stand on ceremony, and that he could always come to him for any dough-related issues in the future.

Ren Mingqing’s attitude made Fu Yu feel immediate goodwill towards this chubby guy. After a warm chat, he watched him leave.

But then, while he was proudly making dumplings, the braised whole duck he relied on to complete his task was taken over by Yao Shi. In just over an hour, more than twenty plates were already finished.

Fu Yu almost burst into tears when he saw it!

What the hell!

He finally got a [Kitchen Artisan]achievement task.

Was it easy?!

Now the braised whole duck needed to complete the task was intercepted halfway!!

”Chef Yao, didn’t we agree that I’d do the braised whole duck?”

Yao Shi, busy and sweating, looked up at Fu Yu, stunned.

Fu Yu’s face turned red with excitement, as if someone had stolen his wife.

Ugh!

How can he think just because he wants a divorce, everyone else must have unfortunate relationships too!

Yao Shi said warmly, ”Yes, it was left for you. So, have you finished the Sticky Eight-Treasure Rice Dumplings?”

Saying this, Yao Shi made way.

Fu Yu quickly claimed his spot back.

You have to know, this splitting task is really not an easy one.

And the task required him to complete it 100 times to be considered finished.

Originally, he thought he could definitely ace it today, but unexpectedly was short by twenty times in the end.

Fu Yu swallowed his frustration, glancing at Yao Shi by his side: Head Chef, you stole my task counts!!

A chilling breeze blew behind Yao Shi, making him a bit cold, hrmm...

Fu Yu adjusted his emotions and nonchalantly answered Yao Shi, ”Finished.”

Yao Shi went over to Zhang Zhen’s side, turned around, and was even more satisfied with Fu Yu afterward.

This kid is something!

Learning cooking is just like learning martial arts; without talent, mere hard work won’t suffice.

A student who picks things up right away and learns quickly is beloved by all mentors.

Yao Shi glanced at the braised whole duck Fu Yu had prepared.

The improvement was conspicuous.

Whether it was the angle of the knife or the cross-section of the bone cut, there was nothing to criticize.

So he said contently, ”Your skills in splitting have improved very fast...”

Fu Yu felt proud inside.

However, he humbly said, ”I’m still lacking practice. I will definitely focus more on practical skills in the future.”

”Actually, it’s already very good. I mainly practice spoon techniques because the orders are still mainly for hot dishes.” Yao Shi said gently, ”Although as a chef, the more dishes you master, the better, you should still have two areas of expertise. Of course, for you, this might be a bit challenging...”

Fu Yu: ”...”

This conversation can’t go on.

Yao Shi, having started off, patiently began to teach Fu Yu.

”Learning to cook is actually similar to studying; both require a dedicated focus, but sometimes, you also need to be adaptable when needed.”

Fu Yu nodded, feeling this made sense, ”Chef Yao, is there anything else I should improve in my splitting technique?”

”Hmm...I think it’s already very good.”

Fu Yu, feeling a bit full of himself, ”Really?”

Yao Shi nodded, ”So let’s leave this dish for now. Let others do it. Come with me, I’ll guide you on cooking Ginger Scallion Crab.”

Fu Yu was stunned, only one expression could convey his feelings at that moment: What about continuing to strive for perfection?

Yao Shi turned and walked towards his cooking station, ”The Ginger Scallion Crab looks simple, but when cooking, there are many tips...”

He turned back and smiled gently at Fu Yu, ”Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to teach you everything I know.”

Fu Yu’s smile felt forced on his face.

I’m doomed!

Now, even those remaining attempts are gone...

...

Fu Yu followed Yao Shi to learn how to make Ginger Scallion Crab.

When Yao Shi said he’d teach, he truly taught using a master-apprentice style method.

He cooked while explaining in detail what should be noted in the cooking process of this dish.

After demonstrating, he let Fu Yu practice.

He pointed out any shortcomings and discussed related issues that could arise from them.

When it comes to cooking, once you’ve grasped the specific handling of ingredients and the control of time and heat, most cooking methods become easy to learn.

Yao Shi taught meticulously, and Fu Yu learned diligently.

Yao Shi was moved by his attitude and taught with even more detail.

Fu Yu thus studied even harder.

When a few plates of Ginger Scallion Crab reached the table, Fu Yu had already learned a series of seafood stir-fry methods.

Yao Shi confidently entrusted the remaining dishes to Fu Yu to cook.

Fu Yu cooked plate after plate of Ginger Scallion Crab.

Just as he was busy and things were in full swing, Yao Shi’s phone rang.

It was a call from Gao Wenjing, the supervisor at Qianlima.

Before Yao Shi could speak, Gao Wenjing urgently said, ”Chef Yao, is Fu Yu with you?”

Yao Shi asked back instead of answering, ”What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

Gao Wenjing hurriedly reported like spilling beans, ”A customer came in and specifically asked to have Chef Fu prepare their dishes.”

Yao Shi was taken aback, ”Then let Zhao Meng or Lao Gu handle it?”

At Qianlima’s kitchen, Yao Shi is the head chef, while Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu are referred to as head chefs but are actually more like sous chefs.

Gao Wenjing was exasperated, ”I also thought they were looking for Chef Zhao or Chef Gu! But the customer said they wanted Chef Fu, who is a young handsome guy. The most handsome one in our kitchen is Fu Yu. She also said Chef Fu, so it seems to be based on his last name.”

Yao Shi was extremely surprised, ”They specifically asked for Fu Yu?”

Gao Wenjing’s voice came through the phone, ”Yes, they said they came specifically to have Fu Yu cook for them, and that they wouldn’t eat if it wasn’t him! Chef Yao, are you with Fu Yu? When will you be back?”

After saying this, afraid Yao Shi might not take it seriously, he added, ”This group of customers are high-level VIPs in our restaurant, and every time they come, they are quite generous.”

After hanging up the phone, Yao Shi looked at Fu Yu with a sigh of admiration.

It really is true that gold will always shine!
