THE GOD EATER

Then he sneered as he said, “But you don’t need to continue pretending that you didn’t kill that pawn of mine. I know that he is dead because I already sensed that his mental world had collapsed completely, and he would never reincarnate.”

“I also know that it was you who did it because he died so early into the start of the Heavenly Battlefield. It as if someone capable of stopping him from reincarnating went to find him as soon as the Heavenly Battlefield started.”

After saying all of these, he began laughing. As he laughed, he said, “If a divine being didn’t do it, who has the power to do it? And if you are not the divine being who did it, who then did it?”

Before the other swordsman could answer, he said, “Since you can do it despite all of my precautions, you have the right to be proud. This achievement is something you should be vocal and brag about.”

Then he became silent as he waited fror a response. He was waiting to see some gloating, But the other swordsman still refused to admit it.

This time, The other swordsman put on a look of confusion as he said, “You have a pawn? This is news to me.”

Of course, he knew that his enemy, Monarch Two Swords, had a pawn with the Quick Draw Life Ability that he had been grooming. He knew about this, and it is the main reason he signed up to guard this particular Heavenly Battlefield.

His Divine Metac is the Quick Draw Metac, and he is getting close to the end of his life span. As a divine being, the end of one’s life span isn’t the end for him. He can still be reborn and retake his divine position.

But anything can happen during the period when he dies, and his divine position is vacant. This is why he has to clear the way for his reincarnation and make sure that nothing interferes with taking up his divine post after he is reborn.

However, not everyone wants him to return to his divine position after his death. This is normal as he has a lot of enemies.

But this time, things are more serious because one of his enemies has already begun to prepare a replacement for him. They took a rank 3 sword cultivator with a Quick Draw Life Ability and raised that cultivator to rank 5.

How could he sit still while this was happening? The answer is that he couldn’t sit still.

He has already tried to kill that rank 5 usurper many times, but has always failed. So he came here, preparing to ensure that the usurper wouldn’t leave this place alive.

However, these are all plans. He hasn’t actually done anything yet, so the death of the rank 5 usurper comes as a surprise to him.

But he is determined not to show his surprise, so he said to the newcomer, “When did you get a pawn? How come I didn’t know about it?”

The newcomer sneered and said, “Shameless.”

Then he cracked open space and disappeared into the crack. The crack disappeared behind him, leaving the other rank 6 beings, who had been looking forward to a fight, disappointed.

The swordsman looked at the four of them with a smile and said, “Please, don’t take his embarrassing behavior to heart. Not everyone in my sect is so crass and rude. He is an outlier because he is a new generation divine being with no background in nobility.”

One of the divine beings didn’t respond to his words, but two chuckled while one frowned in displeasure.

The ones that chuckled were the divine beings from the Four Directions Sect and the Nexus of Truth Sect. These two were amused by his words because they, too, belong to noble families.

A family is called a noble family when it is firmly in control of a divine position. This is usually achieved by gaining a monopoly on the secret refinement technique for the Divine Metac of that divine position.

A noble family is a tool that a divine being uses to keep control of a divine position and ensure that the divine position can return to their grasp during the time they are unavailable.

Everyone in the divine family must make sure that the divine being remains alive and maintains their power, since their lives are tied to the life of the divine being. If the divine being dies permanently, then nearly everyone in the divine family will follow suit and die.

So possessing a divine family is usually a sign of a divine being that is established, ancient, and unlikely to be uprooted from their divine position. On the other side of the prestigious divine beings are the new and lucky rank 5 juniors who somehow became divine beings.

Every established divine being disdains and scorns the nouveau riche divine beings for breaking established norms. Their scorn isn’t just a matter of pride and entitlement. The divine beings also hate the newer generation of divine beings because those newer divine beings don’t play by established rules.

What just happened is an example of a new generation divine being breaking unwritten rules. It is common sense not to create more rank 5 cultivators, but in his bid to defeat Monarch Quick Draw, Monarch Two Swords went ahead to nurture a rank 5 cultivator and even intends to help that rank 5 cultivator become a divine being.

It is crass and uncouth behavior like this that makes respectable ancient divine beings look down on the new generation of divine beings.

The divine beings from the Four Directions Sect and the Nexus of Truth also look down on Monarch Two Swords for breaking the unwritten rules, which is why they chuckled.

But the divine being from the Martial Body Sect wasn’t amused because he was a new generation divine being, too. So by mocking Monarch Two Swords, they were mocking him too.
