The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

After completing the preliminary investigation at the construction site, Director Hou, Jiang An, and the group drove again towards the municipal police station.

According to the original plan, Mr. Chen and Mr. Qin were supposed to return together to assist with the subsequent work deployment.

However, just before departure, Mr. Chen suddenly received an urgent call from his family, learning that his spouse had a sudden medical emergency and needed immediate hospitalization.

Seeing the situation, Mr. Qin decisively turned the car around, personally driving Mr. Chen to the hospital.

Immediately afterward, Director Hou, Jiang An, and the others drove alone towards the municipal police station.

The vehicle hadn’t traveled far before they arrived outside the gates of the municipal police station.

Unexpectedly, just as the car was about to enter the gates, a group of people suddenly surged ahead and blocked the driveway completely.

The driver, Liu, instinctively slowed down, glanced around, and showed a hint of confusion and helplessness on his face.

He turned his head and lowered his voice to speak to Director Hou, ”Director Hou, these people seem to be coming for us.”

”But this isn’t a police car, they should be stopping police cars instead...”

Director Hou frowned slightly, his expression grave.

This kind of sudden public blockade is something he hasn’t frequently encountered in his many years of case handling.

He pondered briefly, then signaled Liu to stop the vehicle steadily while he slowly rolled down the passenger side window.

Outside the window, faces filled with anxiety and hope were right in front of them.

Leading the group was a young man around thirty years old, who stepped forward, ”Hello, may I ask, are you the murder investigation team sent from the province?”

Director Hou met his gaze and replied calmly, ”No, we are not the investigation team. We are a special investigation group responsible for investigating specific cases.”

”Special investigation group... Right, right!”

The young man nodded quickly as if suddenly recalling something, ”The leader of the petition bureau just told us that a work team from the province is coming to investigate Li Yong’s death at the construction site—we are Li Yong’s family.”

As his words fell, a slight commotion stirred in the crowd around, with all eyes collectively turning toward the car interior.

The words left the petition bureau director in an unavoidable predicament, effectively ”exposing” him completely.

Before the words finished, Director Hou and Jiang An were already filled with anger, as no one expected the petition bureau director, who was turned away at the meeting venue, to directly lead people to blockade their vehicle in such a manner.

Just moments ago at the meeting hall, Director Hou and Jiang An spoke cautiously and proceeded carefully.

After all, it was their first time arriving at this place, unfamiliar with the local situation, having only preliminarily reviewed the case report and examined the site environment, with the body yet to be thoroughly inspected, making any conclusion premature.

Now, however, they faced the emotional family members directly, and a sense of unease settled in their hearts—how should they respond?

How exactly should they handle this?

These family members often have sensitive emotions, sometimes even carrying recording devices, and every word could be recorded, magnified, leading to unnecessary misunderstandings and affecting the subsequent investigation of the case.

At this time, the two young officers sitting in the back seat could no longer suppress their inner agitation, their faces written with tension and indignation.

It was their first time participating in such a complex and tense on-site handling, with limited experience, making it difficult to conceal their emotions.

In contrast, Jiang An appeared much steadier.

He pondered briefly before turning to Director Hou with a low-voice suggestion, ”Director Hou, given this situation, we might need to get out of the car and explain. I’ve encountered similar situations while working in Jiangcheng, perhaps we could try communicating.”

Director Hou’s gaze slightly tensed, looking at Jiang An, ”Okay, then let’s get out of the car and respond together.”

Both pushed open the doors and got out, with Director Hou leading the way, speaking as calmly as possible, ”Hello everyone, we are members of the special investigation group sent by the provincial public security department. May I ask if you are Li Yong’s family members?”

The leading young man immediately nodded, ”I am his cousin, these two are his parents, and those folks behind are neighbors from our village.”

”Leader, we just want to ask one question: When will you give us a result from your investigation?”

”Li Yong was clearly murdered, and the construction side is trying to shirk responsibility, falsely claiming it was an accident. Up till now, there’s no talk of compensation, no arrest of the culprit, we are utterly desperate... Please, you must uphold justice for us!”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An looked at the other party with a calm and earnest gaze, speaking gently yet firmly, ”I completely understand the feelings of everyone at this moment.”

”Although I wear a police uniform and am an enforcer of the law, when I take off this uniform, just like everyone else, I am an ordinary person, with family, with responsibilities, and I better understand those heavy burdens in life that are difficult to articulate.”

”Li Yong was so young, a pillar of the family, with elderly parents to care for above, and young children waiting for support below. This sudden blow is an unbearable weight on any family.”

”Therefore, please believe, we are not indifferent observers of your plight, but truly empathize with you.”

”I solemnly assure everyone right here, please rest assured.”

As the words fell, the initially emotional and tense atmosphere surrounding the group seemed to touch a soft spot in their hearts, quietly dissipating the intense confrontation that was present before.

Perhaps to them, more important than status and position is whether the other side can truly stand in their perspective, understanding their pain and helplessness—and the genuine empathy evident in Jiang An’s words offered the emotional recognition they needed the most.
