The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

As soon as he finished speaking, Director Chen Guan smoothly took over the conversation, speaking sincerely: ”Thank you very much, Director Hou and Mr. Jiang, for your valuable suggestions on this case.

For this case, we indeed devoted a lot of effort in the early stages and carried out quite a bit of work, but from the perspective of provincial experts, there must still be many shortcomings.

Next, we will certainly follow the directions pointed out just now, continue to investigate deeply, and strive to make a breakthrough as soon as possible.”

As soon as Mr. Chen finished speaking, the director of the Petition Office sitting opposite spoke up: ”Director Chen, experts from the provincial department, this case has been repeatedly communicated between our Petition Office and Mr. Chen in the early stages. The directions mentioned just now were actually covered in our previous work.”

He gestured toward the pile of documents on the table as he spoke, ”If the experts have time, perhaps you could first take a look at these materials to understand more about our previous logical analysis and reasoning process of the case. This could be more helpful for the subsequent analysis and judgment.”

After a brief pause, he turned to look at his colleague beside him, showing a somewhat serious expression: ”The case has indeed been dragged on for a bit long, and the family has been continuously visiting.”

”If nothing unexpected happens, the family is likely to visit the Petition Office again this afternoon.”

”Therefore, I also take this opportunity to call on everyone to work together, improve efficiency, and strive to handle this case properly as soon as possible, giving the family a responsible explanation.”

During the conversation, he deliberately turned his head, focusing his gaze on Director Hou, ”This afternoon, the family came to the office. They hope that the provincial department can step in through you, representing the official side, to give a clear explanation.

Only after the provincial department makes a statement can we work with the family to stabilize emotions temporarily, ensure that the situation does not escalate, and maintain social stability.”

As he finished speaking, all eyes in the meeting room once again focused on Director Hou.

Especially Chen Guan and Qin Feng, whose eyes showed obvious anticipation—perhaps this is what they hoped for in their hearts.

There is actually no one who truly doubts the nature of the death in the case, and few even care;

What everyone really cares about is how to quickly resolve this matter without stirring up waves again.

Chen Guan then smiled lightly, speaking in a relaxed tone: ”Director Hou, do you think this arrangement is suitable?”

At this moment, the previous layer of politeness and gentleness on Director Hou’s face suddenly faded away.

His expression turned solemn, and his voice followed suit, becoming serious: ”Director Chen, my previous statement should have been very clear—the case is not yet fully understood, so what do you want me to reply to the family with?”

His tone rose, and the entire atmosphere of the meeting room seemed to tense up immediately.

Do not take his usual courteous dealings with people for granted; when it comes to matters of principle, especially case-related ones, he immediately shows a tough side.

”The three points raised by Mr. Jiang just now, I completely agree with.”

”Is the case really at the point where a conclusion can be made?”

”Is the conclusion clear?”

”Can we determine it as death from illness?”

The Petition Office director across heard this and immediately took over, his tone unyielding: ”The conclusion is of course clear!”

”The forensic identification center of the Medical University issued a formal report, with the appraisal performed by experts at the professorial level, examined carefully under a microscope.”

”Their conclusion has absolute reliability.”

As he spoke, he turned his head to look at the Medical University professor sitting next to him. The professor nodded slightly, a professional and confident smile appearing on his lips, and said calmly:

”Since the establishment of our forensic center, we’ve always conducted ourselves with the utmost scientific rigor. From pathological slices to microscopic tests, every step has been strictly re-evaluated.”

”So for this conclusion, please rest assured, and provincial department leaders, please rest assured as well.”

After hearing this, Director Hou nodded slightly, speaking with steady and grave tones: ”I certainly understand this.”

”But when dealing with such life-and-death cases, I believe follow-up work must be based on a clear understanding of the death’s nature; otherwise, any premature judgment may deviate from the truth.”

”If we draw hasty conclusions, no matter how much we explain, if it turns out to be a murder, then all our directions will be in vain.”

The other side couldn’t help but laugh out loud: ”Hahaha, impossible, absolutely impossible!”

”It’s hard enough to say it’s a suicide—the surrounding environment at the scene has been carefully examined, and it simply doesn’t provide the conditions for suicide.”

”As for murder? It doesn’t make sense either.”

”The construction site is under closed management, with strict records of internal personnel entry, and external personnel find it difficult to enter freely.”

”In such an environment, who do you say could have had the opportunity to commit the crime?”

Discussing crime and investigation, this happens to be Director Hou’s area of expertise.

He remained calm, his voice clear and powerful: ”The closed management you mentioned does provide a layer of protection, but it cannot completely rule out the possibility of an inside job.”

”If it was done by an insider, wouldn’t the victim, as a laborer, have resisted when attacked?”

”And the presence or absence of resistance marks, or the judgment of the degree of resistance, cannot be concluded by mere speculation here.”

”This requires comprehensive consideration of scene evidence, psychological analysis, and various other aspects.”

Seeing that both sides were becoming more heated in their tone, with the atmosphere getting a bit tense, Chen Guan quickly raised his hand to mediate: ”Alright, alright, Director Wu, let’s say a bit less.”

”We are currently analyzing the case, and our goal is the same—to find out the truth.”

”I believe as long as we adhere to this principle, any major disagreements can be resolved through discussion.”

He immediately turned to Director Hou, speaking sincerely: ”Director Hou, I apologize, you have traveled from afar to guide the work, and we here are perhaps overly eager to solve the case; if there were any offensive words just now, please bear with us.”

Director Hou waved his hand, his expression calm: ”It’s okay; it’s normal to have different viewpoints when discussing a case.”

He understood in his heart that this dialogue scene might have been arranged earlier—Chen Guan, as the deputy director in charge of criminal investigation, was not in a position to argue directly with senior experts;

Criminal Investigation Captain Qin Feng was also not in a position to speak much;

Expressing differing opinions through another’s mouth could make the discussion more thorough and multidimensional.

After a brief pause, Director Hou continued, his tone softer yet still firm: ”I also understand the discussions just now.”

”Handling this case indeed has its difficulties, especially with the reassessment of the nature of death, which means revisiting earlier work, which is time-consuming and labor-intensive.”

”But investigating a case is like this; facts are more crucial than any assumptions.”

”The department dispatched us to various counties and districts to conduct guidance work, and our task is to help everyone thoroughly understand and clarify each case.”

”We are not afraid of trouble, only that the truth might be obscured.”

”Only by steadily taking each step can we quickly uncover the truth, which is an account not just to the deceased but also a responsibility to the law.”

Seeing that Director Hou was resolute and logical, Chen Guan no longer insisted, promptly responding: ”Alright then, since the provincial experts have provided clear directions, we will proceed with the subsequent work according to the provincial department’s guidance.”

”Everyone work together to strive for a breakthrough as soon as possible.”

”Director Hou, where do you think we should start from next? Should we re-examine the scene or focus on studying the investigation report?”

Director Hou turned to look at Jiang An.

Jiang An pondered for a moment and answered decisively: ”Is the death scene still preserved?”

Qin Feng quickly nodded, ”Yes! Yes! Yes!”

Jiang An said, ”Then let’s start with the scene.”

”Alright, then let’s focus on the re-examination of the scene.”

Chen Guan immediately agreed, ”I will arrange vehicles right away to accompany everyone to the original incident site for re-investigation.”
