The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Thirty minutes later, seven police cars slowly drove into the depths of the village and finally stopped in front of the old house.

This was the site of the unresolved case from years ago.

At this moment, the open space outside the courtyard gate was overgrown with weeds, almost covering the entrance, creating a stark contrast with the nearby inhabited cottages.

As the convoy of police cars passed through the village center, it attracted the attention of many villagers, who stopped to watch, whispering with complex expressions. Clearly, this unsolved case from many years ago still resonates heavily in the local memory.

The case caused a great stir in the area back then, and even today, whenever it’s mentioned, many villagers continue to show signs of avoidance.

Especially in a relatively traditional village, the tragic and mysterious death of a whole family was not only the annihilation of one household but also cast a shadow over the entire village.

For this reason, the house has remained vacant and unused since the crime occurred.

The primary reason being the case remains unsolved—the police had instructed back then that the site must remain unchanged for potential future investigations.

As often stated in criminal investigations, the Crime Scene is the most concentrated and objective source of physical evidence, and where the quest for truth begins.

Director Lu and Director Hou got out of the car one after another, standing side by side outside the courtyard gate, looking inside.

They have visited here many times before, even when Director Hou was supervising the work, he had stepped into this courtyard several times.

However, standing here again at this moment, they couldn’t help but feel a wave of emotion—a complex mix of responsibility, pressure, and expectations, profound and intense.

The two leaders quietly observed for a moment, then turned to each other simultaneously.

At the intersection of their gaze, they slightly nodded to each other.

Director Hou took a deep breath and began, ”This case has dragged on for too long.”

”Today, maybe it’s time we must have a showdown.”

Director Lu nodded in agreement, with a calm and determined tone, ”Indeed, hopefully, today we can make a breakthrough and give everyone an explanation.”

After speaking, he turned to Jiang An and said, ”Mr. Jiang, I’m handing over the site command to you for what’s next. Everyone will fully cooperate and assist you in carrying out the work.”

Jiang An nodded solemnly, then picked up the megaphone and spoke clearly and steadily to all the people on the scene, ”Before entering the site, please make sure to wear gloves, masks, shoe covers, and head covers. This is the basic requirement for our investigation to minimize human contamination and ensure the integrity of original traces.”

”Additionally, I must stress that upon entering the site, we will adopt a grid and slice extraction method, conducting a carpet search of the entire area.”

”During this process, please pay close attention to any possible trace evidence—they may not all be conspicuous blood stains, but could be a tiny strand of hair, an unnatural scuff mark, or even a small item that doesn’t belong at this site.”

”Anything deemed abnormal or suspicious, regardless of size, must first be extracted and preserved.”

”Later, we will collectively conduct specialized assessment to sift out valuable clues.”

As soon as he finished speaking, everyone responded in unison, ”Understood!”

The voices were neat and powerful. Then everyone picked up the investigation boxes and orderly entered the site.

Adhering to the predetermined division of labor before departure, each person held a high-definition image of the original site, providing critical reference for the investigation.

The group proceeded according to the investigation grid outlined earlier, commencing dense and meticulous extraction work.

The site was silent, with only the occasional sound of equipment and whispering, all progressing in a tense and orderly manner.

Two hours passed quietly.

When the last piece of evidence was carefully extracted, labeled, and recorded, the main phase of site investigation came to a close.

Standing at the edge of the investigation area, Jiang An looked towards the staff responsible for recording, finalizing the confirmation, ”What’s the last evidence number?”

”Number 2001,” the staff answered clearly.

Standing on the outskirts closely monitoring the progress, Director Lu and Director Hou, upon hearing this number, were momentarily stunned, exchanging a glance with a subtle trace of astonishment on their faces.

They clearly hadn’t anticipated that what seemed to be a routine investigation would yield such an enormous quantity of evidence.

Immediately, both turned their gaze toward the nearly two-hundred-square-meter indoor space.

The area wasn’t particularly spacious, but the amount of evidence extracted was astonishing—totaling over 2000 trace pieces.

In general cases, the amount of evidence extracted typically doesn’t exceed 50 pieces, yet the quantity here exceeded that of ordinary cases by more than forty times.

The stark contrast made everyone present acutely aware of the extraordinary workload of this case.

Director Hou turned around, a serious expression on his face, looked at Director Lu, and said, ”Director Lu, this time we’ve really ’gone all out’.”

Director Lu nodded, his tone carrying a hint of concern, ”Indeed, we’ve gone all out, but my concern now is whether our current equipment can handle such a large amount of evidence at once.”

”If the machines can’t keep up and delay the testing progress, that’ll be troublesome.”

At this point, a policeman promptly interjected, ”Director Hou, Director Lu, the equipment we’re using in the lab for genetic testing can only process up to eight gene loci samples at a time.”
