The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Not only that, each sample needs to be continuously tested from infusion to completion for one to two hours.”

”If we calculate at this speed, it might take us a whole month to test all the over 2000 pieces of evidence in front of us.”

Hearing this, Director Lu couldn’t help but sigh, with a tone of helplessness: ”Actually, when we applied for information technology equipment a couple of days ago, we originally listed an advanced 30-channel device. But because its total price exceeded 2 million, the procurement process has been stuck and hasn’t been approved.”

”If that equipment could arrive, our work efficiency would at least increase several times.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An furrowed his brows, his tone becoming urgent: ”This is really delaying things!”

”At the current efficiency, it’s really too slow. We can’t keep waiting like this to solve the case, and we can’t wait till new equipment arrives to get results.”

Director Hou also showed a worried face, pondering for a moment before suggesting: ”If it’s really not possible, should we consider sending these pieces of evidence to the Provincial Detective General Team?”

”They have 20-channel equipment over there, able to process 20 samples at once, the speed should be much faster.”

Director Lu hesitated a bit: ”Sending it to the Provincial Detective Team is indeed a solution, but it’s not close to us here; a one-way trip takes six hours, round trip it’s most of a day, transportation and time costs are high.”

Just as they were worrying over a box of evidence in front of them, Jiang An suddenly spoke again.

”Director Lu, actually I have acquaintances in the detective teams in Guangling City, Dong City, and Jinzhou. How about I contact them and see if they can help us with part of the testing tasks?”

”These three places are relatively better developed economically, and their forensic technology equipment may be more advanced than our municipal bureau, maybe they can process faster.”

Director Lu hurriedly waved his hand upon hearing this, his tone sincere with some embarrassment: ”How can we be so impolite?”

”You and Director Hou specially came to our municipal bureau to guide the case, providing us with tremendous technical support.”

”Now you have to use your personal relationships and owe favors for work, we really don’t feel good about it.”

Upon hearing this, Director Hou took over the conversation, sincerely adding: ”Mr. Jiang, we understand your intentions, but in public service, you really shouldn’t use personal relationships to handle official affairs.”

”How about this, if internal coordination is difficult, I can apply for a special fund from above and send these pieces of evidence to professional identification agencies in society for processing, which should also be feasible.”

”After all, the current batch of materials is primarily blood samples, not a particularly complex or difficult form of evidence, ordinary social identification agencies are completely capable of undertaking it.”

Seeing the leaders present still showing some hesitation, seemingly unwilling to send materials externally, Jiang An quickly opened his mouth, his tone calm and relaxed: ”No worries, please rest assured, leaders.”

”Although I am not very close with the detective leaders in Guangling, Dongyang, and Jinzhou, we have cooperated on several cross-regional cases before, participated in many training and exchange activities together, and are quite familiar with each other.”

”I’ll make a call first to test their stance.”

”If they are willing to assist, then the efficiency of identifying this batch of evidence will definitely be greatly improved;”

”If it’s really inconvenient, we’ll follow the plan Director Lu and Director Hou just proposed, applying for external identification, so as not to delay the work progress.”

It seemed Director Lu wanted to remind some more, but Jiang An had already deftly picked up the phone, found the number of Captain Tian from Guangling City’s detective branch, and dialed directly.

The call was quickly connected, Captain Tian’s cheerful voice carrying a smile came from the other side: ”Hello, Mr. Jiang? Oh, what a rare guest!”

”Long time no see, what made you suddenly think of calling me?”

Jiang An also laughed, exchanging pleasantries: ”Captain Tian, hearing your voice, you’ve been in good spirits lately! Indeed, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in touch, blame me for being too busy to look after my brothers.”

”’Don’t visit the Three Treasures Palace without a reason’, we’re so familiar, I’ll speak directly—did you actively call me today to ask for help with something?”

Captain Tian then followed his words, saying earnestly: ”It’s refreshing to talk with you! We’re old comrades on the detective frontline, mutual support is simply proper.”

”In the future, if Guangling needs our cooperation, don’t hesitate to speak up, anytime.”

”Alright, with your word, I’m relieved!”

Captain Tian’s tone grew more enthusiastic, ”So, what’s the matter? I’ll definitely try my best for anything I can help with.”

Only then did Jiang An turn to the point: ”Here’s the situation, we’re currently following a years-old homicide case backlog in Dongcheng City, and we’ve successively collected about 2000 pieces of evidence, quite a large quantity.”

”However, the equipment in Dongcheng City’s evidence laboratory is quite outdated, processing speed can’t keep up with our investigation pace.”

”That made me think of you all in Guangling, not sure how updated your equipment for evidence identification is now? Can it handle a large batch of materials?”

”Ah, you’ve really asked the right person!”

Captain Tian’s words carried a bit of pride, ”Our detective team just received funds for equipment updates, and last week we installed and commissioned a newly purchased 50-channel fully automatic evidence detection system.”

”This set of equipment is currently the latest model on the market, with high sensitivity and strong parallel processing capabilities, especially suitable for rapid screening of large batches of samples.”
