The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Soon, Director Hou, Jiang An, and a group of people arrived at the conference room on the sixth floor of the city bureau.

Just as they reached the entrance of the conference room, they saw that it was already filled with people, roughly estimating at least over twenty people seated.

In front of each person was a neatly placed seat card, labeled with different units and names, indicating that the attendees came from various relevant departments.

After entering the conference room, Mr. Chen introduced to those present, ”Colleagues, first let me introduce, this is Comrade Hou Youcai, the leader of the provincial case-solving task force. This is Jiang An, the captain of the Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau Criminal Investigation Team.”

”These two beside him are the Criminal Investigation Team’s core members, Comrades Li Yan and Zhang Lei.”

”They have come all the way from the provincial department to guide us in advancing the investigation of the ’513’ death incident.”

”Let’s welcome their arrival with a warm round of applause!”

As soon as he finished speaking, the entire conference room erupted into an enthusiastic and resounding applause.

However, just as the applause died down, and the few had taken their seats, a faint murmur of discussion arose from the audience below.

Interestingly, many were not focused on Director Hou, but rather on Jiang An and the two young comrades beside him.

Many attendees had specially given up their lunch break to come, hoping to hear authoritative analysis and guidance from provincial experts regarding the case.

Although only six months have passed since the ’513’ case occurred, it has garnered increasing social attention with each passing day.

In these six months, the family of the deceased has petitioned nearly a hundred times; nearly every working day, their persistent figures can be seen at the petition office entrance.

The family’s core demand has always been clear and resolute: thoroughly investigate the truth, treat the deceased justly, and let grievances be redressed.

For this reason, before they arrived, the Guangling City Public Security Bureau, the petition office, and other relevant departments had repeatedly formed temporary special investigation teams to reopen investigations into the case.

However, regardless of the repeated examinations of the crime scene or the meticulous examination of the body, multiple rounds of thorough analysis were conducted, yet each investigation ended with no clear progress, fruitless.

Even so, each reopening of the investigation process, in the eyes of the victim’s family, was often perceived as perfunctory, lacking substantive progress, as if merely ’stringing them along’.

It is precisely this accumulated disappointment and the gap between expectations that directly led to today’s large-scale meeting.

It can be said that all parties present had quite high expectations for this meeting, hoping for a breakthrough shift.

However, upon seeing that only three young faces had walked into the conference room, many present could not suppress a wave of undeniable disappointment.

There is an old saying, ”a hairless lip leads to unsteady work.”

Among the task force members, apart from Director Hou, who exuded a steady and somewhat mature demeanor, the remaining few were young, inevitably raising doubts about their experience and capability.

After the simple introduction session, Mr. Chen addressed the whole room, ”This time, the provincial department specially dispatched the task force to guide work in our city. On one hand, it is a full reflection of the provincial criminal investigation team’s deep concern and strong support for our city’s criminal investigation team. On the other hand, it reflects the complexity and difficulty of solving the ’513’ death incident itself; the case not only has prominent investigation bottlenecks but has also caused significant adverse social impacts.”

”Therefore, today we specially invited the task force comrades to be present, to listen to a detailed report from our bureau on the case, and in hope of using this opportunity to jointly prepare for the next steps in solving the case, as well as potential subsequent petition resolution work.”

With that, he turned slightly towards Director Hou, his tone turning consultative, ”Director Hou, do you think we should now begin the brief report on the case?”

Director Hou nodded, ”Okay, let’s start.”

”Our task force only has a preliminary understanding of this case so far. Today, we hope to hear a systematic and comprehensive introduction.”

”The report should focus primarily on the basic situation of the original crime scene, the specific results of the body examination, and the current key points of contention.”

With that, Qin Feng nodded, his gaze turning to the projection screen in front of him, as he gently clicked the mouse in his hand, saying, ”Next, I will briefly report on the basic situation of this case to everyone.”

As he spoke, the lights in the conference room dimmed, and the first page of the PPT was clearly displayed with a striking title — ”Report on the ’513’ Non-Natural Death Incident”.

The initial introduction covered the report-receiving phase of the case.

The incident occurred at Site No. 2 of the Phase II construction project in the West Lake District of the city’s development zone.

The report time was 22:07 that night, and the reporter was a night-shift worker at the construction site, claiming that his coworker, Li Yong, had suddenly fallen ill within the construction area and collapsed, suspected of having no signs of life.

Upon receiving the report, local police precinct officers arrived at the scene promptly for early handling and simultaneously notified the 120 emergency center to come for confirmation.

After on-site examinations by medical personnel, the person involved, Li Yong, showed no signs of life and was declared dead.

The precinct immediately followed procedure, reporting the case to the city bureau’s criminal technical team, requesting the crime scene investigation unit to intervene for professional examination.

At this point, Qin Feng operated the mouse to switch to the next slide.

The screen displayed several original scene photos.

In the images, the night was deep, and the construction site’s lighting was limited, the environment dark, with a male body lying flat on the uneven concrete ground, clothing relatively neat, surrounded by some scattered construction materials.
