The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Upon hearing this question, Li Tao suddenly raised his head, his tone unintentionally heightened: ”How would I know this? The injury happened a long time ago, and I have no recollection of where exactly I got hurt.”

”No recollection?”

Jiang An pressed further: ”Is it that you just can’t remember for now, or is it that you actually have no memory at all?”

”What do you mean?”

Li Tao furrowed his brow, subconsciously clenched his scarred hand, ”The wound is on me, how could I possibly not be aware?”

”But I really don’t know when it happened—you see, the scar is almost gone.”

”Then let me ask differently, since when did this hand start to feel a bit deformed, a bit unresponsive?”

Upon hearing this, Li Tao fell silent, lowered his head, his gaze resting on that light brown mark.

After quite a while, he finally spoke softly: ”Officer, I really can’t remember... I don’t recall where I got hurt.”

”Really don’t know?”

”I don’t know.”

”Then at least remember roughly which year it happened, surely you have some impression?”

Li Tao glanced at his hand again, said slowly: ”I only remember it was roughly ten years ago... but the exact year or day, I really can’t remember.”

”As for the location... I can’t say either.”

”Under what circumstances did you get injured back then? Did anything happen?”

”Can’t remember, really can’t remember.”

Li Tao’s tone carried a hint of impatience, he lifted his hand to rub his forehead, ”I’ve said all I could, can I leave now?”

At this moment, Zhang Biao and Director Lu, standing aside, simultaneously directed their gaze towards Jiang An.

Jiang An sensed their gaze and turned to look back at them.

Soon after, the three walked out of the interrogation room.

Just as they stepped out, Zhang Biao couldn’t hold back the swirling questions in his mind, hurriedly caught up with Jiang An, lowered his voice and urgently asked, ”Mr. Jiang, you specifically mentioned that scar on his hand... Does it mean you think it’s related to the case?”

”But from the scene, we repeatedly examined all the blood marks, and aside from the two deceased’s blood, we didn’t find evidence belonging to a third person. That’s clearly stated in the report.”

Director Lu also added with a serious expression: ”The scene investigations and evidence examinations after the incident were personally overseen by me.”

”Back then, we extracted multiple blood samples from different locations, and all the results pointed to the two deceased, indeed showing no third person’s blood reaction.”

Jiang An nodded slightly and replied: ”At present, we indeed cannot assert that the scar on his hand is directly related to the case. Everyone, have a look—”

He raised his hand and made a subtle gesture to simulate, ”The scabs on the scar have already fallen off, meaning it has been healing for quite some time.”

”And the skin contraction associated with the scar tissue requires a considerable recovery period.”

”Without other corroborative evidence, it’s difficult to accurately infer the time frame of when this scar was formed—it could very well have existed before the incident, and also, it cannot be ruled out that the injury occurred after the incident.”

He paused for a moment, his voice steady and clear: ”So at this stage, we can only view it as a clue warranting cautious attention, not as conclusive evidence.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Biao’s expression visibly dimmed, he spread his hands in slight frustration and voiced a hint of urgency: ”If even the scar clue isn’t reliable, aren’t we back to square one? How do we proceed with the case?”

Beside him, Director Hou and Director Lu exchanged a glance, both showing serious yet helpless expressions.

However, in this oppressive moment, Jiang An suddenly raised his head and said: ”Actually, aside from examining the scar pattern, perhaps we can leap beyond this limitation and re-examine the traces and evidence at the scene—even details once deemed ’non-suspicious.’”

Director Lu furrowed his brow slightly and recalled: ”After the incident, we conducted a large-scale scene investigation, almost combing through every corner like a carpet, and didn’t find any blood apart from the two deceased.”

Zhang Biao chimed in, his tone very assured: ”That’s right, although the scene wasn’t large, I personally led the team, along with the tech team, conducting repeated checks, extracting nearly three hundred samples, all pointing to the two deceased, indeed no third person’s biological traces.”

Jiang An listened quietly but did not directly refute, instead speaking in his usual calm tone: ”I understand everyone’s perspective, the scene evidence seems very clear.”

”But precisely because of this, we need to go back and take another look—not doubting past work, but rather reviewing from a new standpoint.”

”No matter how meticulous the investigation, there are always blind spots visually or mentally, some subtle marks may have been overlooked on the first check due to investigative direction limitations.”

He paused briefly before continuing: ”Especially now that we have new information regarding the suspect’s hand injury, re-examining the scene might correspond to evidence traces we couldn’t link before.”

This suggestion left Director Hou, Director Lu, and Zhang Biao momentarily stunned, exchanging questioning glances.

Even though they are well aware of Jiang An’s outstanding professional ability, repeatedly finding crucial flaws in difficult cases, mentioning a return to an already extensively examined scene still caught them off guard, even feeling it might be redundant.
