The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

The afternoon meeting had just ended not long ago when six young officers quickly completed organizing their personal files, detailed life experiences, educational backgrounds, and professional specialties, handing them over to Mr. Wang.

At this moment, in Mr. Wang’s office by the tea table.

Mr. Wang sat across from Director Hou and Jiang An.

He picked up the teapot and poured a cup of green tea each for Director Hou and Jiang An, the light fragrance of tea gently spreading out.

”You two have really become the focus of our task force now.”

”Just when I suggested selecting a group of young core members to join your special task force for tackling homicide cases, I couldn’t believe the enthusiastic responses I received shortly thereafter. Everyone is eagerly signing up, full of passion, which makes me both gratified and encouraged.”

Upon hearing this, Director Hou smiled slightly and responded, ”Mr. Wang, you’re too modest.”

”The reason for such a widespread response is ultimately because of your effective coordination and well-planned arrangements.”

”Your motivating speech at the meeting not only highlighted the importance of the mission but also expressed trust and expectations for young talents. Naturally, everyone was inspired and wanted to contribute to the task force.”

Mr. Wang laughed heartily, waving his hand, ”I can’t take all the credit.”

”Actually, it’s also a response to the current situation.”

”Right now, we deeply feel that the growth speed of young talents isn’t meeting the practical needs, and our reserves of outstanding talents are also insufficient. That’s why we can’t help but seek ways to build platforms for them to hone their skills and accelerate their growth through major tasks.”

As he spoke, Mr. Wang’s gaze turned to Jiang An beside him, ”Jiang An, a practical talent like you who has honed your skills on the front line is exactly what the provincial department needs.”

”If there’s an opportunity next time, consider developing towards the provincial department. We will definitely welcome you with open arms.”

Jiang An, hearing this, smiled modestly, ”Thank you, Mr. Wang, for valuing me, I will continue to work hard.”

”However, the provincial department is full of talents, and currently, my abilities and opportunities might still be lacking. I’m afraid I might let you down.”

”Ah, don’t say that.”

Mr. Wang’s tone was earnest, yet with a touch of teasing, ”If you really come, the doors of the provincial department will surely be open for you.”

”However, I’m also pondering, if a capable detective team leader like you is transferred, Mr. Ma from Jiang City Bureau would probably be the first to disagree, he might even come to ’reason’ with me, maybe even roll up his sleeves to ’argue’ a bit!”

After saying this, the office echoed with relaxed and knowing laughter.

A moment later, Director Hou spoke with a smile, ”Mr. Wang, I remember that you and Mr. Ma from Jiangcheng were classmates at the police academy back then?”

Mr. Wang nodded, a hint of nostalgia in his expression, ”Yes, we were old classmates, but since graduating, we’ve gone our separate ways and haven’t had a chance to meet for all these years.”

”Mr. Ma has been doing an outstanding job in Jiangcheng, you see, exceptional talents like Jiang An are his handiwork, truly impressive.”

After some small talk, Mr. Wang shifted the topic to business, ”Next, we plan to arrange for you to go to Guangling City to participate in some case investigations.”

”There’s a rather tricky case over there, and the pressure is quite substantial.”

”I’m considering selecting one or two young officers from our side to accompany you as you go.”

”In this way, they can help share part of the basic work, reducing your load; on the other hand – which is actually the main goal – we hope they can learn a lot from you experienced detectives, broaden their perspective, and accumulate some practical experience.”

Director Hou and Jiang An exchanged a glance, understanding each other, and then Director Hou nodded in response, ”This is indeed a great opportunity, and we’re willing to guide the young officers.”

”However, considering the complexity and pace of the current cases, it might be difficult to provide too many hands-on opportunities.”

”If we start from the most basic levels of training, I’m afraid the conditions aren’t currently suitable.”

Mr. Wang waved his hand, his tone relaxed, ”That’s alright, the case-handling process itself is the best classroom.”

”Being with front-line experts like you, even tiny details and bits of experience are invaluable for them; even if they only learn a little, it’s still significant progress.”

He paused, then continued, ”Currently, we have six young officers available to choose from, three women and three men.”

”You can select one or two according to actual needs, personnel decisions are entirely up to you.”

As his words fell, Jiang An and Director Hou each picked up the files on the table and began to carefully peruse them page by page.

Ten minutes later, Director Hou said, ”I see this young man Zhang Lei, his comprehensive quality is indeed outstanding.”

”He graduated from the University of Political Science and Law, majoring in forensic science, with a solid academic foundation.”

”Especially concerning our current focus on tackling unsolved homicide cases, these cases often have a long history with sparse clues; routine inspections and visits are hard to open the situation, the key to solving them lies in reanalyzing and deeply investigating the crime scene evidence.”

”Zhang’s professional background can precisely play a significant role in this area, providing new entry points and technical support for the cases.”

Mr. Wang nodded slightly upon hearing this, a look of approval in his eyes.

He then turned his gaze to Jiang An as if seeking his opinion.

Jiang An looked up, pondered briefly, and tentatively asked, ”Mr. Wang, for this selection, should we choose one person or two?”

He had his thoughts: If only one person is picked, Director Hou, as a provincial department leader, his nominated candidate should naturally take priority, so he wouldn’t need to recommend someone else;
