Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Why Lie to the Doctor?

6:00 PM.

The entire field investigation team returned to the Houshan Police Station.

After a simple dinner, everyone gathered in the meeting room.

Li Jian said, ”Let’s summarize today’s investigation findings.”

Then, he turned his head and asked, ”Mr. Zhang, how is your investigation going?”

Zhang Chao shook his head and said, ”This afternoon, we visited all the factories, malls, and restaurants in the district, but no one recognized her.”

Li Jian nodded slightly.

”That suggests she most likely left in October last year.”

Then, Li Jian asked, ”Wan, how about your group?”

Wan Junjie spoke up, ”I went to the traffic accident department and retrieved the data on accidents from May to June last year.”

”A total of 247 traffic accidents occurred, among which 105 resulted in leg fractures, and 46 of the victims were female.”

”Jiang An, you can report on the hospital records from our group.”

Jiang An said, ”We investigated five major hospitals, and found that from May to June last year, 215 people were admitted for leg fractures, of which 95 were female.”

Mr. Li said, ”Later, we will compare the traffic accident records with the medical records to find individuals who match the criteria.”

Soon after.

Jiang An and Wan spread all the data out on the meeting room table,

looking for the best matches based on the deceased’s age, gender, and type of injury in both sets of records.

Half an hour later, the selection was complete.

Suddenly, Wan looked up in surprise and said, ”Mr. Li, after our comparison, there is no one who matches the criteria.”

Instantly, Li Jian’s brow furrowed.

Everyone present was incredulous, exchanging bewildered glances.

Everyone was contemplating where the problem lay.

Was the assessment of the deceased’s leg fracture incorrect?

Or was some critical data missing?

After a long pause, Mr. Li said, ”Wan, Jiang An, you two go through the data again.”

Then, Wan and Jiang An reviewed both sets of data once more.

Twenty minutes later, Wan Junjie looked up and said, ”The results are still the same.”

After double-checking, everyone was confident that the results couldn’t be wrong.

The meeting room was quiet once again.

At this moment, Jiang An also felt bewildered.

Could the age estimation of the deceased be incorrect?

Or was there an error in the estimated time of the fracture’s occurrence?

In an instant.

The images of the deceased’s pubic symphysis and the magnified view of the tibial fracture repair resurfaced in his mind.

There was no deviation, conforming to the logical analysis process.

At this moment, everyone was plunged into confusion.

Some quietly directed their eyes toward Jiang An.

Both the deceased’s age analysis and the fracture formation assessment came from Jiang An.

After a brief pause, Zhang Chao asked, ”Brother Jiang An, could there be an error in the age estimate of the deceased?”

He spoke gently, but the meaning was very clear.

Jiang An replied, ”Mr. Zhang, I have confidence in my judgment.”

Zhang Chao clicked his tongue and said, ”If you’re sure your judgment is correct, then where does the problem lie?”

It seemed the case had suddenly hit a dead end.

Five minutes later, Li Jian spoke up, ”Could it be possible that the location of the accident involving the deceased wasn’t in Jiangcheng?”

With those words, everyone followed this line of thinking.

Wan said, ”If that’s the case, we wouldn’t find any medical or accident records.”

Others nodded in agreement after hearing this.

Wan said, ”During my internship at the police academy, I encountered a case of cross-regional body dumping, could the perpetrator be doing the same?”

Zhang Chao shook his head and said, ”If that’s true, finding the identity of the deceased would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.”

At this moment.

Jiang An hadn’t spoken.

He was sorting through potential causes in his mind.

Beyond the possibility of the fracture occurring elsewhere and treatment happening out of town, what other possibilities existed?

Then, Jiang An’s eyes landed once more on the medical records list.

It contained entries for the patient’s name, gender, age, diagnosis, cause of injury, admission details, and discharge details.

Five minutes later, an admission detail caught his attention.

The admission record indicated: 20 minutes earlier, the patient had accidentally fallen, resulting in a fracture of the left lower leg.

The mechanism of injury is a significant area of study in forensic analysis, and Jiang An has an in-depth understanding of it.

When ordinary people fall, injuries like nasal fractures, wrist fractures, or elbow fractures could occur.

However, a fall resulting in a leg fracture was something Jiang An had not encountered.

The injury process and outcome didn’t quite add up.

Then.

Jiang An immediately stood up, left his seat, and walked to the records cabinet at the back.

At this point, the attendees began whispering among themselves.

Many speculated that the perpetrator likely conducted a remote body dump.

The perpetrator wasn’t local, nor was the deceased.

Moreover, this sentiment was gaining traction in the room.

Even Li Jian, who had great faith in Jiang An’s judgment, began to harbor doubts.

At that moment, Jiang An suddenly turned and said, ”I’ve found it.”

”What?”

”What did you find?”

Wan asked in surprise.

Immediately, all eyes turned to Jiang An.

Jiang An stood next to the cabinet, holding a medical record.

He solemnly said, ”I think I might have found out who that female deceased is.”

Li Jian looked at him, puzzled.

Others present were equally baffled.

Just moments ago, they had thoroughly checked both lists, finding no suitable matches.

How could it be that suddenly, after a few minutes, he claimed to have found her?

Li Jian urgently asked, ”Jiang An, what’s going on?”

Jiang An placed a medical record on the table and said, ”This record is very peculiar.”

”Patient Qin Xiao’s diagnosis was a fracture of the left tibia.”

”However, when admitted, she told the doctor she accidentally fell and broke her leg.”

”But according to common understanding, for a young person, a fall leading to a leg fracture, I’ve never seen it.”

”Of course, in elderly patients with osteoporosis, a fall could cause such fractures.”

Li Jian asked, ”Do you mean the patient lied?”

Jiang An nodded.

”I just reviewed Qin Xiao’s surgical record, and during the surgery, the doctor found striped abrasions on her left leg corresponding to the tibial fracture.”

”These injury characteristics closely match those of a traffic accident.”

”When a vehicle’s bumper grille hits the lower leg, it not only breaks the leg bone but also leaves marks on the skin.”

Suddenly, Wan Junjie asked, ”If it was a traffic accident, why would she say she fell and got injured?”

Jiang An replied, ”Such an anomaly points to something unusual.”

”I believe the reason Qin Xiao lied to the doctor was essentially to cover up the fact that she was injured in a traffic accident.”
