Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Image Comparison—It’s Her!

minutes later, Jiang An and Zhang Yean arrived at the bookstore two kilometers away.

At the inquiry desk, Jiang An asked, ”Do you sell magnifying glasses?”

The attendant replied, ”Yes! In the stationery section on the left.”

Immediately, the two walked over there.

At a glance, there were different types of magnifying glasses on the shelves.

Jiang An glanced through and picked out the largest magnifying glass.

He took the magnifying glass to the cashier, and the attendant scanned it and said, ”Today, all items in our stationery section have a promotion: spend 100 and get a 20% discount.”

”You seem like a teacher; do you want to buy two more magnifying glasses?”

Jiang An and Zhang Yean glanced at each other, and they both laughed simultaneously.

Then the cashier added, ”Earlier, a middle school physics teacher bought 10 magnifying glasses at once to experiment with his students.”

Jiang An replied, ”Just buying one will do!”

The cashier seemed a bit disappointed and said, ”Alright then! Please scan to pay.”

Just after leaving the bookstore, Zhang Yean couldn’t help but laugh.

”She said you look like a teacher?”

Jiang An said, ”Do you think it could be a marketing strategy?”

”Judging by her demeanor, I don’t think she’s professional at sales.”

”However, saying a middle school physics teacher bought magnifying glasses should be quite believable.”

”When I was in middle school, I did the ’Focusing to Ignite’ experiment, using a magnifying glass to concentrate sunlight to ignite objects.”

Jiang An said, ”I did that experiment as a child too.”

Then Zhang Yean laughed and said, ”If she knew you were buying a magnifying glass to examine a corpse, what do you think her reaction would be?”

Jiang An laughed and said, ”She’d probably look at us like we’re aliens.”

Meanwhile.

Li Jian and Zhang Chao were leading the team for visits and surveys.

To improve efficiency, they actively mobilized community volunteers and grid administrators to help search for the deceased’s identity, posting restored photos of the deceased in many public places.

Compared to last night’s verbal searches, using photos considerably improved efficiency.

Li Jian and Wan arrived at a hair salon at the street corner.

Wan showed his credentials and said, ”Hello, we’re from the police criminal investigation team. We have a few questions.”

Upon hearing they were police, a flash of fear crossed the boss lady’s face.

”Officers, what can I do for you?”

”In the past year, has any employee from your salon disappeared suddenly?”

”No!”

The boss lady said, ”We have 4 hairdressers and 5 shampoo workers, no one has disappeared suddenly.”

”Even if someone resigns, they always leave happily.”

Wan nodded after hearing this.

Then he took out the reconstructed facial image of the skull from his briefcase.

”Do you recognize the person in this photo?”

The boss lady glanced at it and hesitated before saying, ”Seems a bit familiar.”

At that moment, Li Jian, standing outside the door smoking, became instantly interested upon hearing ”seems a bit familiar.”

He hurriedly threw the cigarette butt to the ground, stomped on it, and quickly walked inside.

”You recognize her?”

The boss lady nodded and said, ”Looks a lot like a shampoo girl we had before.”

”Are you sure?”

Captain Li Jian asked again.

The boss lady thought for a while and said, ”This image is a model, but the facial contour looks very similar.”

Wan said, ”Can you think about it again?”

Suddenly the boss lady clapped her hands.

”I remembered!”

”When she came to us, we happened to be changing the shop sign.”

”She was very pretty, and with her consent, we used her photo as the base image.”

She then walked outside and pointed at the sign, ”Come out and see, doesn’t it look like her?”

Li Jian and Wan Junjie quickly went outside too.

The two looked up and saw a portrait next to the ’Youyuan Hair Salon’ sign.

The sign was a bit faded, but the appearance was still visible.

Wan held up the reconstructed face image in his hand.

Li Jian and Wan looked up and down repeatedly.

After a few times back and forth, Wan said, ”Boss, it’s this woman, right?”

Li Jian’s lips curved upward as he replied, ”I think it’s her too.”

”What’s this woman’s name? Where is she now?”

The boss lady replied, ”We always called her Xiaolan when she came here two years ago.”

”What’s her real name?”

Wan pursued.

”That I don’t know, I didn’t ask.”

”You don’t know her name? How did you pay her wages?”

”Every month in cash.”

The boss lady hurriedly said, ”I have her mobile number!”

She quickly started searching through her phone contacts.

Initially full of hope, now poured with cold water.

A woman unwilling to reveal her name, the mobile number probably wouldn’t lead to her either.

Li Jian suddenly felt a bit disappointed.

Wan used his police mobile to search the number she provided.

He glanced at Li Jian and shook his head.

”Boss, this card isn’t a registered card!”

Li Jian furrowed his brows again and asked, ”When did this woman leave?”

The boss lady recalled, ”Around October last year.”

”Do you remember anything when she left?”

”I remember asking her why she left so suddenly at the time.”

”Was it dissatisfaction with the pay?”

”She said it wasn’t about the salary, but because someone introduced her to a boyfriend.”

Li Jian asked, ”Did she say where she was going?”

The boss lady shook her head.

”No, she didn’t.”

”She said she wanted to find an honest man to spend her life with when she left.”

At this moment.

Jiang An and Zhang Yean had returned to office 403 at the police station.

Jiang An put on gloves and picked up the magnifying glass to examine the White Bone.

Zhang Yean held a flashlight, looking at the two skeletons laid on the floor, said, ”This idle office has turned into your forensic lab.”

Jiang An said, ”We have to thank the Back Mountain Police Station for their strong support.”

After a slight pause, he looked at the White Bone on the ground and said, ”Since the Back Mountain Police Station is so supportive, we should respond positively.”

Then Jiang An approached the headless female corpse.

”Let’s start examining the bones from this female deceased.”

He squatted down, holding the magnifying glass in his right hand and a cervical vertebra in his left, beginning to observe.

Zhang Yean angled the flashlight’s beam directly onto the White Bone in his hand.

She curiously asked, ”Didn’t you already examine all of this last night?”

”If there were fractures, wouldn’t they have been discovered already?”

While observing the vertebra, Jiang An replied, ”Fractures are just one type of evidence bones can provide.”

”There might still be other tiny pieces of evidence on the White Bone.”

After saying that, Jiang An, according to human anatomy, examined the vertebrae, ribs, sternum, humerus, ulna, etc...

No matter how small the bone was, Jiang An wouldn’t miss it.

He observed and compared from different sides and angles.

After an hour.
