Chapter 85: Chapter 85: On-Site Simulation—Even Laymen Understand!

After a long time, many people glanced at each other, whispering among themselves.

How did it happen?

Was it repeated strikes?

One deceased had 14 rib fractures.

The other deceased had 12 rib fractures.

If struck repeatedly with a tool, at least more than 10 repeated blows would be needed.

Just thinking about it is painful.

.....

Some people subconsciously raised their hands, touching their own ribs.

Just as people were discussing, Jiang An stood up, walked to the nearby grass, and began to bend down to pick the grass.

At this moment, seeing Jiang An’s movements was somewhat strange.

Zhang Yean followed and softly asked, ”Junior, why are you picking grass here?”

Jiang An replied, ”Senior, mainly because we didn’t bring the red yarn ball.”

”Hmm?”

Zhang Yean was momentarily stunned by the words.

”Isn’t that red yarn ball used only in bullet trajectory analysis?”

”Do these two heaps of white bones need it too?”

Jiang An said, ”Generally, bone examination doesn’t require it, but in this case, it does.”

”What do you mean?”

Zhang Yean asked, confused.

”I need to find four long foxtail grasses to mark the fractures.”

”Foxtail grass to mark fractures?”

”Can these two be connected?”

Zhang Yean still wanted to ask more questions.

But Jiang An already stood up and went back.

Everyone saw Jiang An come back holding four foxtail grasses, all looking puzzled.

Despite his actions being somewhat incredulous.

But with the foundation of the first analysis, everyone had high regard for Jiang An.

Now, instead of questioning, there was curiosity and anticipation in everyone’s minds.

Jiang An squatted down, placing two of the foxtail grasses onto the ribcages of one of the deceased.

The direction of the foxtail grass was basically perpendicular to the ribs.

In the same manner,

Jiang An placed the remaining two foxtail grasses on the other deceased’s ribs.

Seeing this, everyone was even more confused.

What kind of autopsy method is this?

Forensic Doctor Wu had never done this!

Probably not even recorded in Song Ci’s ”Collection of Redressing Wrongs,” the ancestor of forensic science in Dragon Country?

.....

After placing the foxtail grass, Jiang An said solemnly, ”Mr. Li, Mr. Zhang, and fellow comrades.”

”Due to a lack of autopsy tools, I’m temporarily using these four foxtail grasses as an aid.”

”The places where these four grasses touch the ribs are where the fractures are.”

”The direction of the four grasses represents the direction of the rib fractures of the two deceased.”

Then, Jiang An turned and said, ”Senior, please take photos for records. The color contrast between the grass and the white bone is very strong, making it quite obvious.”

After Zhang Yean pressed the shutter, she asked, ”Junior, what does this mean?”

Jiang An said, ”What I mean is that the rib fractures on these two deceased were caused by a single blow!”

”A single blow causing more than ten rib fractures?”

Instantly, Zhang Yean’s camera hovered above the white bones.

Rumble!

Everyone’s mind at the scene was filled with question marks.

If it were two or three rib fractures, it being caused by a single blow would be acceptable.

However, with these two deceased, one with 14 fractures, the other 12.

If so many fractures were from a single blow, wouldn’t it mean violence struck all four sides of the body simultaneously?

Skepticism gradually surfaced in everyone’s eyes, and some people started whispering.

Li Jian looked at Jiang An, then at the white bones with the foxtail grass.

He softly said, ”Jiang An, the number of rib fractures on each deceased is not small.”

”For a normal person like us, can so many rib fractures be formed from a single violent impact?”

Jiang An replied, ”Mr. Li, I understand that this explanation and analysis might be difficult to grasp.”

”The human ribcage has 24 ribs, which translates to 12 pairs.”

”These 12 pairs of ribs form a cylindrical chest cavity.”

”The structure of the human chest is quite similar to that of a water bottle.”

”Imagine when we step on the body of a water bottle, it gets flattened and deformed, and so the creases would occur on the sides of the bottle.”

Seeing Li Jian and the others seeming to understand but still confused, Jiang An suddenly thought of a more vivid explanation.

He squatted down, arranging the ribs of the two deceased in the structure of a human skeleton in the ground, forming a cylindrical chest cavity structure.

Then, he threaded the foxtail grass along the fracture positions through the ribs.

After completing this, Jiang An stood up.

”Now it’s easier to understand, right?”

Jiang An raised his right foot and gently stepped on the top of the ribs.

As his right foot moved downward, the sides of the deceased’s ribs began to break and collapse.

Critically, the breaking and collapsing matched precisely where the foxtail grass marked.

Seeing this scene, Li Jian nodded slightly, with the corners of his mouth gently rising.

This profound knowledge managed to be understood even by someone of his middle-aged group.

The other officers on the scene gave thumbs up one after the other, faces full of realization.

Zhang Chao walked up excitedly and said, ”Mr. Jiang, I admire you!”

”I think Mr. Wu can go home and look after his grandkids.”

Instantly, everyone spontaneously started applauding.

Zhang Yean also walked over, patting Jiang An’s shoulder, and said, ”Amazing, my brother, you have truly grasped the essence of forensic science.”

Jiang An glanced at the ribs and said solemnly, ”Earlier, I was just using foot force to simulate.”

”Actually, strictly speaking, any tool with a certain area and mass hitting the chest of the deceased could cause multiple fractures.”

”However, personally, I am inclined to think the culprit used their foot to stomp heavily.”

”Because during my examination of the white bones, I didn’t find any traces of blunt force on the other bones.”

Zhang Yean asked, ”But if the culprit could cause this many fractures with just one stomp, how much force would that require?”

”I think the culprit might be very muscular, or maybe someone who does heavy physical labor or a gym-goer.”

Then Jiang An continued, ”I believe that for so many fractures to occur, besides having great strength, the deceased was likely lying down.”

”If a person’s chest receives external force while standing, it wouldn’t result in this many fractures.”

”These fractures only occur when lying down with the back supported, receiving violent stomping.”

Wan Junjie stepped forward to try and mimic a stomping motion.

He asked, ”Neither of the deceased were clothed, could they have been stomped on while on a bed?”

Jiang An shook his head.

”According to the time of death, when they died it was quite cold, so there would’ve been thick mattresses and blankets, with soft materials.”

”In that situation, if the chest were injured, it would be like stepping onto cotton, not enough force.”

Finally, Jiang An said gravely, ”I’m more inclined to believe they were injured while lying on a stone or tile floor.”

In an instant, Wan Junjie’s face contorted in horror.

Two female victims without clothes, lying on the floor, subjected to severe assault.....
