Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Searching for Eligible Candidates

minutes later, Zhang Yean drove the police car to the entrance of the private hospital.

After the three got out of the car, Li Jian approached the information desk.

Showing his ID, he said, ”Hello! We are from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Public Security Bureau. We need to retrieve some medical records for an investigation.”

The nurse at the information desk glanced at the police ID, raised her hand, and pointed to the end of the corridor, saying, ”Go straight to the end, that’s the Medical Records Department.”

”Thank you!”

The three of them walked through the corridor and arrived at the Medical Records Department.

After explaining their purpose, the personnel from the Medical Records Department asked, ”Do you need paper records or electronic ones?”

Li Jian hesitated a bit.

Jiang An inquired, ”Can you conduct diagnostic searches here?”

”Yes!”

”Our hospital has been using an electronic medical records system since January last year.”

Immediately, Jiang An turned and advised, ”Mr. Li, searching through paper records is cumbersome. Would you like to use the system to query and filter first, and then search in detail?”

Li Jian nodded and said.

”Let’s do as you suggested.”

”You have a medical background, and you interned in a hospital, so you’re quite familiar with the hospital work model.”

Zhang Yean also laughed and said, ”Junior, they are practically your peers!”

The woman opposite asked, ”Did he also study medicine?”

Zhang Yean replied, ”He’s a forensic scientist!”

The woman immediately turned to look at Jiang An, ”Forensics! It’s a profession I’ve always admired.”

Jiang An smiled and said, ”Miss, could you help us search for patients who came to your hospital with a broken left tibia last May to June?”

The woman nodded and responded, ”In our electronic system, diagnoses use anatomical terms, allowing us to specify exactly which bone is fractured.”

Jiang An replied, ”A fracture of the left tibia.”

”Then I’ll expand the search scope to find tibia fracture patients.”

Very quickly.

She typed the four characters ”tibia fracture” into the dialog box.

In under 10 seconds.

The computer screen displayed a dialog box that read ”No relevant medical records found.”

Li Jian, Jiang An, and Zhang Yean exchanged glances.

Jiang An then asked, ”Could you please check if there were any tibia fracture patients last year?”

The staff member opposite entered ”tibia fracture” again and expanded the time frame.

seconds later, the dialog box displayed ”No relevant medical records found.”

Seeing this result, Jiang An shook his head.

He said, ”Mr. Li, this hospital doesn’t have any patients that match the criteria.”

Li Jian asked, ”Do you input all inpatient data into this system?”

”Yes, all patients admitted to our hospital are managed in this electronic medical records system, including doctor’s orders, prescriptions, and case records.”

Li Jian nodded.

”In that case, it strongly suggests the injured person likely wasn’t treated at this hospital.”

With that, the three of them walked out of the hospital.

Once they were back in the police car, Li Jian said, ”We’re heading to Jiangcheng City now.”

”There are three People’s Hospitals and a Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Jiangcheng City.”

”Let’s go there and see if we can find a matching patient.”

Zhang Yean started the car, shifted gears, and drove off.

As soon as the police car got on the ring expressway, Captain Li Jian turned back and asked, ”Jiang An, are you certain about the timeframe of the deceased’s leg fracture?”

Jiang An confirmed, ”Mr. Li, I’m sure.”

”Though there might be slight variations in fracture healing among individuals, the general stages of repair are quite similar.”

Zhang Yean spoke while driving, ”Mr. Li, is it possible that the woman didn’t get hospitalized in Jiangcheng for treatment?”

Li Jian said in a deep voice, ”What you mentioned can’t be ruled out either.”

”However, if she indeed got treatment out of town, our investigation becomes significantly more challenging.”

An hour and a half later, the three arrived at the Jiangcheng Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

At the outpatient information desk, Li Jian produced his police ID and stated their purpose.

Guided by a nurse, the three arrived at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital’s Medical Records Room.

After a brief introduction, Captain Li Jian directly asked, ”Does your hospital use an electronic medical record system?”

”Yes, we do!”

”Our Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital has been using this system for 5 years.”

Li Jian said, ”That’s great!”

Then, he glanced at Jiang An.

For such professional matters, they had to be handled by a professional.

Jiang An said, ”We’d like to check if your hospital admitted any patients with a fractured left tibia between last May and June?”

”As far as I know, there should be quite a few.”

”Back when I was working at the Orthopedic Nurses’ Station, we often encountered patients with leg fractures due to traffic accidents.”

The nurse then said, ”Please wait a moment while I run a query on the system for you.”

The nurse entered ”tibia fracture” into the electronic medical record system, setting up the search time.

She pressed the enter key, and a dialog box quickly appeared.

”20 cases matching the criteria were found.”

The nurse said, ”That month, there were 20 patients with tibia fractures.”

Jiang An asked, ”Were they all injured in traffic accidents?”

”Not all of them!”

”Among these 20 patients with tibia fractures, 15 were injured in traffic accidents, and 4 were injured in other accidents.”

Li Jian stepped forward and asked, ”Could you separate those injured in traffic accidents?”

The nurse said, ”Currently, none of our hospital’s medical record management systems have a splitting function; it has to be done manually.”

Li Jian said, ”Then there’s no need to separate them. Please directly export a data directory for us.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang An added, ”Additionally, please print out each patient’s hospitalization records.”

Zhang Yean asked, ”Why do we also need hospitalization records?”

Jiang An answered, ”This way, we can understand the entire injury process in detail.”

”Okay! Please wait a moment.”

minutes later, the nurse handed over a list and a thick stack of medical records.

”The medical records for all 20 patients are here.”

”Thank you!”

Subsequently, the three left the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital together.

They then arrived at Jiangcheng City First Hospital.

Compared to the crowded conditions at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, the outpatient department at the First Hospital was very quiet.

Zhang Yean said, ”There are too few patients at this hospital.”

Li Jian said, ”Maybe you were too young at the time and didn’t know this incident occurred!”

”Ten years ago, during the treatment of an orthopedic patient, the patient suddenly died on the operating table at this hospital.”

”The hospital not only had to pay substantial compensation but also suffered significant harm to its reputation.”

”Since that incident, the hospital’s medical business has sharply declined.”

Zhang Yean said, ”Patients come for treatment, and if they die, it surely damages the reputation.”

Then, the three went straight to the Medical Records Department.

After checking, they found only 3 hospitalized patients for leg fractures last May to June.

Jiang An glanced at the directory and shook his head.

”They’re all male, and none of them match!”

After leaving the First Hospital, they continued to the Second Hospital and then the Third Hospital.

Meanwhile, the other two teams were diligently investigating as well.
