Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2066: Chapter 2060: Confrontation

Only Qin Jian and An Hao were left. As they walked, An Hao explained to him, ”Teacher Yuan resigned under pressure! She won’t be teaching kindergarten kids at this military compound anymore. I made plans to have dinner with her tonight to thank her. Do you want to join us?”

”I’ll pass. You go ahead! I still need to return to the unit; work is work!”

”Alright, then!”

”By the way,” An Hao suddenly remembered something, ”take Gan Tian with you!”

”Got it!”

............

Gan Tian was sent to the National Security Bureau, where Hong Mei was under investigation.

No matter what the staff said, she kept her mouth shut, not saying a word.

Finally, Gan Tian arrived.

Section Chief Zhen brought her into the interrogation room.

When Hong Mei saw Gan Tian, she was completely stunned.

She couldn’t believe her eyes. The person she had believed to be dead was standing intact right in front of her.

”Gan Meng! No, I should call you Hong Mei!” Gan Tian looked at Hong Mei with a calm expression, ”We meet again!”

”How can it be you?” Hong Mei stared wide-eyed at Gan Tian, unable to believe it.

Gan Tian smiled slightly, her eyes showing not the slightest hint of hatred, only endless desolation: ”You really don’t want to see me? But, I’m afraid I’ll disappoint you! Even if you don’t want to see me, I’m still here!”

”Impossible!! You must be fake! How could you still be alive! You were clearly dead!” Hong Mei’s psychological defenses completely crumbled; the moment she saw Gan Tian, she knew her end had come.

She couldn’t possibly escape!

”Perhaps it’s heaven’s mercy! Even I didn’t expect you hadn’t killed me!” Gan Tian gave a bitter smile, ”It’s indeed ironic, between the two of us, heaven seems to have decided it must be a battle of life and death.”

”How did you survive? Tell me!” Hong Mei shouted at Gan Tian, eyes wide with emotion.

”None of that matters! Hong Mei, you’ve done too many wrong things and there’s no turning back. You might as well confess and own up to your mistakes!” Gan Tian said slowly, her gentle voice flowing like a spring stream.

A look of deathly despair flickered in Hong Mei’s eyes, and she plopped down onto a chair: ”What’s the difference whether I confess or not? You’ve come to take my life! Now you can have it!”

Section Chief Zhen, seeing that the sisters had said almost enough, tapped the table: ”How’s the conversation? There are a few questions that need to be verified with you, Gan Tian.”

”Yes! Please go ahead!”

”Summarize your background briefly and how you two swapped identities...” Section Chief Zhen asked, and the assistant sitting next to him began taking notes.

”My name is Gan Tian! I’m originally from Xicun, Hexi Township, Nancheng City. I officially joined the PLA in 1989...”

Gan Tian spent half a day recounting her experiences to prove her identity.

This confirmed that Hong Mei had impersonated Gan Tian and infiltrated the military with ulterior motives.

At the same time, Hong Mei was charged with attempted murder and transferred to the authorities for further processing, with the police submitting her case to the court.

In the afternoon, the police came to take her back to investigate her charges of attempted murder.

As they left the National Security Bureau, Gan Tian followed behind Hong Mei. Just as she was about to get into the car, Gan Tian asked, ”Do our parents know about everything between us?”
