Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1796: Chapter 1795: A Way of Loving

”Yes! I think it’s totally worth it!” Yan Ye smiled at Qin Jian. ”From someone’s example, I’ve come to fully understand one thing—good things are worth the wait!”

”Smart of you!” Qin Jian curled his lips slightly, his gaze landing on Yan Ye’s hands. ”What are you holding?”

”A dress!” Yan Ye placed the gift box in front of An Hao. ”This is custom-made for you by Qiushu! She hopes you can wear this dress tomorrow and stand by her side as her bridesmaid!”

”Alright. Please thank Qiushu for me! Let her know, I’ll definitely do a great job as her bridesmaid tomorrow!” An Hao said cheerfully.

”Thanks!” Yan Ye delivered the gift, exchanged a few pleasantries, and prepared to leave. ”It’s getting late, I still have things to prepare, so I’ll head out now!”

”Alright. You should hurry back! The groom must be very busy!” Zhang Yun chuckled as she escorted Yan Ye to the door. ”Off you go! Get plenty of rest so you’ll be full of energy to take Qiushu home as your bride tomorrow!”

”Don’t worry! Auntie, no need to see me off! I’ll take my leave then!” With that, Yan Ye headed out.

An Hao opened the gift box and pulled out a dress. The material of this dress was the same as the wedding gown, but unlike the floor-length wedding gown, this dress was calf-length!

In the 1980s, it was quite popular for couples to go to photo studios to take wedding pictures before their big day.

However, it was rare for anyone to afford an actual wedding gown for the ceremony.

Of course, someone like Lin Qiushu wouldn’t have such constraints. Her family had plenty of money and resources, so wearing a wedding gown for her marriage was an easy matter! Naturally, it wasn’t hard for her to get a bridesmaid dress for An Hao either.

”Wow, this dress is really exquisite!” Zhang Yun remarked as she admired the dress. Unable to hold back her praise, she added, ”Being a merchant these days sure beats being in the military by a long shot!”

”I don’t like what you’re saying!” Ning Yibin, a veteran who had fought on the frontlines and nearly sacrificed his life, held a deep sentimental attachment to the word ’soldier.’ ”I think you’ve been corrupted by the sugar-coated artillery shells of capitalists.”

”Who’s a capitalist? What sugar-coated artillery shells are you talking about?” Zhang Yun glared at Ning Yibin. ”Just because your mind is filled with military and soldier stuff doesn’t mean you can force everyone to think like you! What’s wrong with me speaking my mind? Is it against the law?”

”It’s not against the law!” Ning Yibin casually picked up the military newspaper on the table and muttered a few unhappy words under his breath, ”I just find it annoying to hear.”

”If you find it annoying, don’t listen! I wasn’t talking to you anyway!” Zhang Yun shot back, engaging her husband in yet another argument. ”The bigger rank you climb to, the bigger your temper grows!”

”What climbing ranks? We’re the people’s soldiers! We’re—”

Ning Yibin hadn’t finished his sentence when Zhang Yun interrupted, ”Oh, stop being pretentious!”

This comment thoroughly angered Ning Yibin. He abruptly stood up, rolled up his newspaper, and stomped back to the bedroom. ”I can’t communicate with you at all anymore!”

”You’re nothing but pretentious!” Zhang Yun shouted in frustration after him as he walked away.

The older this couple got, the more they seemed to bicker.

An Hao was just about to intervene when Qin Jian waved at her, signaling not to get involved.

This was actually their way of expressing love.

Zhang Yun, now angrier after being ignored by Ning Yibin, stormed after him, pushing open the door to continue their back-and-forth.

”Come on, honey, let’s head upstairs too! We should get some rest early tonight. Tomorrow, you’ve got a big job ahead!” Qin Jian said as he wrapped his arms around a pair of chubby little boys and headed upstairs.

The next day, Qin Jian left early in the morning.

An Hao also woke up bright and early. Today, at Lin Qiushu’s wedding, she had an important role to play. She couldn’t afford to be late.
