Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1757: Chapter 1756: Can’t Be Careless

”Uncle Mu! If you trust me, let me go find Mu Mian!” Lin Sheng said.

”Alright. Good child, go find Mu Mian! Then take good care of her!” At this point, he had no other option.

He handed a few bullets and a small packet of drugs to Lin Sheng. ”Take these things, you’ll find them useful!”

Lin Sheng looked at the white powder he loathed beyond measure, but in the end, he gritted his teeth and took it. Without saying another word, he turned and left in the direction Mu Mian had gone.

.....................

In the dead of night, the first gunshot rang out, like a beacon pointing the way for everyone involved.

The anti-drug squad, together with the reinforcements led by Zhao Dong, were all rushing in this direction.

Qin Jian was lurking in the shadows, observing the situation, having witnessed the most recent sequence of events.

He knew that, with his strength alone, he wasn’t a match for the drug traffickers. So, he quietly tailed them, all the while waiting for a chance to strike alongside the main force.

Justice and evil were drawing closer, and the air of the deep night instantly grew tense.

Because this meeting was bound to ignite a fight to the death!

”Hear that? Up ahead... footsteps—they sound like there’s more than just a few of them.” Zhao Dong stopped in his tracks, turned his head, and whispered to the anti-drug squad leader following behind him.

”I hear it too. Something feels off.” The squad leader murmured. They’d clearly seen the drug traffickers entering the mountains with fewer than ten people, including the hostages. But the chaotic footsteps ahead sounded like a group of at least thirty.

”Exactly!” Zhao Dong tilted his head to listen. ”And those footsteps seem to be heading straight for us. What’s going on here? These traffickers aren’t fleeing—they’ve turned around to face us head-on? Not to mention, the numbers don’t add up!”

”There’s another possibility: armed traffickers returning from across the border,” the squad leader suggested.

”Good! That’s excellent!” Zhao Dong, who had a burning rage bottled up in his chest for days, had longed for a proper fight with these traffickers. He’d just told the squad leader earlier: if they caught up with the traffickers, no one was to take action—he wanted to take them down himself and revel in the kill. Now, finally, the opportunity had arrived.

”Everyone, take note. Set up the ambush! Once they step into our trap, hit them hard! Not a single one of these mongrels gets away!” The squad leader commanded.

All the warriors and officers got into position, quietly awaiting their prey’s arrival.

Sure enough, five minutes later, an armed convoy entered their ambush range—completely unaware they’d stepped into the tiger’s den.

In the darkness, Zhao Dong’s eyes gleamed brightly, like a ravenous leopard yearning for the hunt.

”Brother Kun, haven’t we already walked quite a long way? How come the squad you mentioned, I don’t see them anywhere?” Lao Jin looked around nervously and grumbled, ”These cops are utterly useless! They’ve been keeping me on edge this entire time. With their incompetence, catching anyone would be a miracle!”

”Never underestimate them! Overconfidence leads to disaster!” Mu Qiankun didn’t share Lao Jin’s dismissive view of the police. He couldn’t shake the eerie feeling brought on by the unnerving silence around him.

”Tch, them? I’d say they’re just a bunch of idle layabouts! I don’t take them seriously at all.”

As soon as Lao Jin finished speaking, two gunshots rang out—followed immediately by two agonized screams.
