Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1793: Chapter 1792: Are You Trying to Scare Me to Death?

”Oh my god! Tiantian, why are you looking at me like that?” Lin Miao clutched her wildly beating heart. ”You look murderous! Look at your icy stare—it’s practically freezing everything! It’s just a breakup, you don’t have to take it this far, do you?”

Gan Tian stared at her silently, as if looking at a complete stranger.

”What’s wrong?” Lin Miao felt a chill run down her spine under that gaze. ”What are you doing? Did you lose your mind? Stop looking at me like that! Here, candied hawthorn skewers! Your favorite!”

As she spoke, she stuffed the candied hawthorn skewers into Gan Tian’s hand.

Gan Tian glanced down at the skewers, then without any warning, loosened her fingers. *Smack.* The candied hawthorn fell to the ground.

The amber-colored sugar coating shattered, and the skewers were covered in dirt, clearly no longer edible.

”What the hell are you doing?” This finally angered Lin Miao. She glared down at the skewers on the ground, equal parts heartbroken and regretful. ”Gan Tian, you lunatic!”

When she furiously raised her head again, she discovered that Gan Tian had already disappeared.

”Where did you go? Gan Tian! Gan Tian!” Lin Miao turned her head frantically, scanning her surroundings, but Gan Tian was nowhere to be seen. ”Gan Tian! You little brat, where did you run off to?”

After yelling for a while and getting no response, Lin Miao was so mad her stomach started to ache.

She had gone out with Gan Tian for a stroll, but now Gan Tian had left her behind. What was the point of continuing to wander around by herself? She decided to head back to the base camp and wait for that brat to return in the evening. Then, they’d have a proper talk and settle this once and for all.

Lin Miao sighed. Just as she was about to leave, she turned around and found Gan Tian standing right behind her.

”AHH! Are you trying to scare me to death? What are you doing creeping up on me? Playing hide-and-seek?” Lin Miao clutched her chest. This was the second time Gan Tian had startled her today.

”Who’s playing hide-and-seek with you? Didn’t you get the candied hawthorn skewer? Why’d you wander off so far? You made me search everywhere for you!” Gan Tian looked at her with a mix of grievance and frustration.

”*I* made *you* search for *me*?” Lin Miao felt like she was being blamed unfairly. ”Weren’t you the one who made me search for *you*? When I went back to the original spot with the candied hawthorn, you were nowhere to be found, so I had to look all over!”

”Didn’t I tell you I was going to the restroom?”

”I didn’t hear you.”

”You didn’t hear me, so it’s my fault? Why didn’t you stay where you were? Why run around?”

”Ugh... wasn’t I trying to find you?”

The two of them went back and forth, and it almost turned into a full-blown argument.

”Gan Tian. I know you’re in a bad mood, so I won’t argue with you! But this time, I have to say, you really went too far!” Lin Miao was deeply hurt by Gan Tian’s earlier actions. ”I know you like candied hawthorn skewers, and I bought them specifically to cheer you up. But look at what you did!”

Lin Miao pointed at the dirty, ruined skewers on the ground. ”If you’re upset and not in the mood, you could’ve just said no! You didn’t have to throw them on the ground, did you?”

”Me? Throw them?” Gan Tian crouched down, staring intently at the skewers on the ground for a long moment. ”Miaomiao, are you sure you’re not joking with me? I’ve been searching for you this whole time! When I just saw you earlier, weren’t the skewers already on the ground?”

”Gan Tian! Are you messing with me? Tell me, what exactly are you playing at?” Lin Miao found Gan Tian’s behavior odd—too odd. ”I’m telling you the truth! No jokes! You threw the skewers yourself, with your own hands! If I’m lying in the slightest—may lightning strike me where I stand!”
