Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1762: Chapter 1761: The Poison Addiction Strikes

”That’s right! Commander, we don’t need someone like this in our reconnaissance unit!” Zhao Dong said angrily. ”Lin Sheng, damn it! Lin Sheng! You are such a disappointment! You’ve completely betrayed the trust the Commander had in you!”

Originally, Zhao Dong had intended to give Lin Sheng a thorough scolding upon seeing him. But now, looking at Lin Sheng in this state, all the words of reprimand he had prepared were stuck in his throat—he couldn’t bring himself to say a single sentence.

”Enough! All of you, stop blaming him. This is all my fault! It’s my fault!” Mu Mian couldn’t hold back anymore as she saw Lin Sheng being reprimanded. With tears streaming down her face, she tightly grasped Lin Sheng’s arm. ”Lin Sheng is innocent. It was Big Guy who threatened him! He fled in panic because he was worried about my safety!”

”Whatever the reason is, you can’t just disregard military discipline! If everyone starts making excuses for themselves, coming and going as they please, what do you think this makes the military?” Zhao Dong countered Mu Mian’s defense.

”Yes! The squad leader is absolutely right! It’s my fault! I admit it!” Lin Sheng hung his head, his voice dejected.

”Then why didn’t you return to the unit afterward? And why did you associate with drug traffickers and get involved in drug-related activities?” This was the question that Qin Jian had wanted answers to all along.

”Because...” The events that followed felt like a nightmare to Lin Sheng; he didn’t want to recall them. The words caught in his throat, unable to be expressed.

”Because my father coerced him! He even... he even...” Mu Mian was about to reveal the truth when Lin Sheng covered her mouth tightly, silencing her.

Mu Mian stared at him with teary, swollen eyes.

Lin Sheng shook his head at Mu Mian, signaling that the truth was already unbearable enough—he didn’t want his misery to be shared in front of everyone.

Especially in front of Qin Jian.

If Qin Jian learned that Lin Sheng had also started using drugs, who knew how much disappointment he would feel?

”Commander, I was wrong! I know I’ve made so many mistakes that there’s no way I can return to the unit. But I swear, I didn’t commit any illegal acts!” Lin Sheng desperately tried to clear his name.

”We’ll investigate whether you did or didn’t. Besides, whether it was coercion or your own choice, you were involved in this drug trafficking operation. As for what punishment you will receive, the law will decide.” The anti-narcotics team leader refused to overlook anyone with links to the drug traffickers.

He was determined to clean up anyone who could be associated with drug trafficking.

While they were discussing the matter, Lin Sheng’s expression suddenly changed. His face slackened, his demeanor turned sluggish, and he started yawning excessively, his nose and tears streaming uncontrollably.

Soon after, he began pulling at his hair and scratching his skin, eventually collapsing to the ground. His entire body curled up as he let out guttural cries of pain and struggled intensely.

”He’s having a drug withdrawal episode!” said the anti-narcotics team leader.

Having been in this line of work for several years, dealing with drug traffickers and addicts was something he was all too familiar with. He immediately recognized Lin Sheng’s condition.

”Holy shit! This kid really outdid himself this time. What an absolute disgrace to the PLA!” Zhao Dong was beyond disappointed in Lin Sheng, to the point where he couldn’t even summon the strength to be angry anymore.

”Enough, all of you stop talking.” An Hao had heard enough. ”Taking drugs wasn’t Lin Sheng’s choice! He was forced into it! Mu Qiankun injected him with drugs! What’s said now doesn’t matter—what matters is saving him first!”

”Lin Sheng... Lin Sheng...” Mu Mian sobbed uncontrollably, hugging Lin Sheng tightly, overcome with a grief so intense she could barely breathe.

Qin Jian sighed deeply. Taking a step forward, he raised his hand and struck Lin Sheng hard enough to knock him unconscious.
