Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 838: Chapter 838: Don’t Be Fooled

”What nonsense are you talking about, Xin Ni? She is Staff Officer Qin’s wife, she hasn’t been here long, and she has been very busy. It’s only your first time meeting her, so why would you spout nonsense as soon as you open your mouth?” Zhang Guifang took over the conversation, giving Xin Ni an earful.

After that earful, Xin Ni, who had been still somewhat hazed with sleep, suddenly saw things more clearly.

She had been groggy from sleep; how had she ended up in a direct confrontation with this woman?

It made her seem immature, and if there were to be any friction in the future, chances were that others would think she was intentionally looking for trouble.

”Yes, yes, yes!” Xin Ni rubbed her hair, ”I must have been groggy from sleep! I must have mistaken you for someone else. I’m sorry, sister-in-law!”

”It’s all a misunderstanding,” Li Zecheng, feeling apologetic for his cousin’s rashness, quickly said to An Hao and Qin Jian, ”Brother, sister-in-law, I apologize, don’t take it to heart.”

An Hao merely smiled without speaking while Qin Jian said indifferently, ”It doesn’t matter, just be more careful in the future.”

”Yes, yes, yes, my mistake, my fault.” Xin Ni always became gentle and lovely whenever Li Zecheng was around.

Zhang Guifang, finding her irritating, then said to An Hao, ”An Hao, go help sister-in-law in the kitchen, I’ll make dumplings for you to eat tonight.”

”Okay, sister-in-law,” An Hao agreed and followed Zhang Guifang into the kitchen.

Xin Ni, seeing the two of them leave, immediately became even more cordial.

She brewed tea for Zecheng and went to wash fruit, acting as if this were her own home and she the lady of the house.

While busying herself with these tasks, her mouth wasn’t idle either, ”You’d think the sister-in-law would at least wash some fruit to entertain the guests.”

Zhang Guifang, in the kitchen washing vegetables, was so angry upon hearing this that she nearly choked with rage. She said to An Hao, ”We really had run out of fruit; the fruit was bought right when you came. Before your arrival, I had prepared a lot of food as today I planned to have a good drink with you all tonight, so I deliberately didn’t prepare fruit, as it fills up the stomach. Just because of this small issue, she goes running off to my husband, babbling incessantly and blackening my name every single day.”

An Hao gently patted her hand and said, ”Sister-in-law, I know what kind of person you are. She just wants to provoke you, make you go out and scold her so she can put on a pitiful face to gain Zecheng’s sympathy. You must not fall for it.”

”I know, but it’s just so frustrating and irritating to hear,” Zhang Guifang sighed, ”I just don’t know when these days will come to an end.”

”Don’t be too anxious. There’s a saying, ’Time reveals a person’s heart.’ She can pretend for a day or two but not forever. Over time, Zecheng will naturally discover her true colors. During this time, sister-in-law, just protect yourself and don’t be taken advantage of.”

”Hmm,” Zhang Guifang nodded.

Zhang Guifang cooked the dishes while An Hao handed her things; they worked together smoothly.

Most of the dishes were almost ready, with only one fish left. ”An Hao,” said Zhang Guifang, ”I’m not very good at cooking fish. Do you know how to make it? Maybe make fish soup?”

”I know how, let me do it!” An Hao, adept in her movements, picked up the prepared fish, cut it into four large pieces, placed it in the pot, added various seasonings, and began to stew the fish soup.

After putting on a pretense in the living room for a while and seeing that she couldn’t get a word in with the men, Xin Ni also turned around and headed for the kitchen.
