Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 802: Chapter 802: Sour and Vinegary

On the way back to the dormitory, Lei Linxuan was both envious and sympathetic toward An Hao, ”An Hao, if it were me, I might have really agreed. What a great opportunity this is.”

”That’s exactly what I’m saying,” sighed Zhang Juan with a worried frown, ”For someone like me, I guess I’ll probably be assigned to a unit in the future, right? What if I can’t make it back from the grassroots level, wouldn’t I end up administering injections and medications for a lifetime? I just can’t reconcile myself to that!”

”I just got lucky this time,” An Hao modestly said, looking at her three friends, all downcast, how could she have the heart to tell them that she actually worked very hard during this past year?

”Who says so? It’s clear that you’ve been very diligent,” Lei Linxuan truly admired An Hao from the bottom of her heart; she too hoped to stay at the military district hospital and make her parents proud.

”You’re right!” Gu Shuangshuang chimed in, ”An Hao indeed puts in a lot of effort, and we can’t just coast along. We must excel and thereby increase our chances of having more options in the future.”

”Agreed!”

”Agreed!”

That evening, in the classroom apartment, Cheng Yu made dinner, and Cheng Yue, Li Zhi, and Zhang Chaoqian all came over to freeload a meal.

The four of them gathered around the dining table while Nancheng TV was broadcasting that outdated piece of news.

Li Zhi put down his chopsticks somewhat grudgingly, ”Our junior sister has certainly hogged all the limelight this time! Teacher Yan is way too biased toward her, giving her such a good opportunity while not considering us. If he had taken us along, perhaps we would be the ones in the limelight now.”

”Give me a break! Even if you were allowed to go, you might not necessarily manage,” although Cheng Yue had stopped pestering An Hao, he couldn’t stand hearing others bad-mouth her, ”How much time does she spend studying in a year? How about you? Even Teacher Yan admitted he had overlooked her, do you think you’re stronger than Teacher Yan?”

”Is she stronger than Teacher Yan?” Li Zhi retorted.

”This incident is just a coincidence,” said Zhang Chaoqian.

Cheng Yu chuckled upon hearing this and casually switched the TV channel, ”All coincidences are inevitably connected. Stop being sour just because you can’t eat the grapes. Even though you guys are her senior brothers, you must admit that there are aspects in which you’re not as good as her.”

”Cheng Yu sis, do you think highly of her?” Li Zhi stopped his chopsticks to ask.

Cheng Yue tugged at the corner of his mouth and said, ”You could say that. She is indeed stronger than me in some aspects.”

”It doesn’t show,” Li Zhi, harboring a grudge about An Hao’s rise to fame, spoke from a place of jealousy, ”Besides finding a husband in addition to you, I don’t see how she’s any better.”

Cheng Yu’s face stiffened slightly, ”That’s enough to make me envious.”

”Enough, you guys! Stop dragging my sister into this, aren’t you just poking at her sore spots?” Cheng Yue glared harshly at Li Zhi, ”What right do you have to take issue with An Hao? It’s all because An Hao didn’t tell you where she was going that day, isn’t it? And because An Hao showed she was stronger than you, right? Can’t you be a bit more broad-minded and stop behaving like a woman? No wonder Gu Shuangshuang doesn’t like you.”

Cheng Yue’s words made Li Zhi flush red, ”Alright, alright. I’ll stop, okay? I’m getting drowned in your saliva here. I’ll eat, can’t I just eat? How did this get brought back to Gu Shuangshuang?”

Li Zhi quieted down and focused on shoveling food into his mouth earnestly.

Satisfied, Cheng Yue was about to eat when he noticed Cheng Yu’s eyes, unwaveringly fixed on the TV screen, as if it were showing something incredibly captivating.
