Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 835: Chapter 835: The Springboard to Get Close to Him

An Hao returned home, still seething with anger, and the first thing she did was to take the maple leaf out of her bag.

She called Qin Jian and asked, ”Have you received any more maple leaves since you arrived here?”

”I have,” he replied.

”Where?” she pressed.

”In the drawer by the bedside,” Qin Jian answered, ”What are you suddenly looking for these for?”

”I’ve made an important discovery!” An Hao, suppressing the anger inside her, told Qin Jian, ”Come back! I have something to tell you!”

An Hao laid out all the maple leaves together, noting how similar they were in size, vein patterns, and shape.

She had previously noticed that the maple leaves sent by Cheng Yu were all roughly the same size and shape, presumably carefully selected.

An Hao realized that when she ate, she would deliberately place her chopsticks neatly, and when six dishes were served on the table, they were also neatly arranged in three rows; she had found it somewhat surprising at the time.

Now she understood that Cheng Yu must also have some mild obsessive-compulsive disorder!

She never thought that she would become love rivals with such a woman — it was unbelievable!

When Qin Jian received An Hao’s call, he hurried back, and the first thing he said to An Hao upon opening the door was, ”Don’t get any closer to that woman, Cheng Yu!”

An Hao had meant to ask Qin Jian about something else, but before she could speak, she was taken aback by his words: ”What do you mean by that? What are you trying to say?”

”Cheng Yu’s approach toward you is not well-intentioned!” Qin Jian slowly said, ”You’re nothing more than a stepping stone for her to get to me.”

An Hao was even more astonished: ”How could you see through her? Are her intentions so obvious that you saw them after just two meetings, yet I haven’t noticed after several encounters? Have I become so stupid?”

”Of course, you wouldn’t notice. Because I already knew about her feelings,” Qin Jian stated.

”You’ve always known?” An Hao’s eyebrows knitted, anger welling up in her eyes, ”Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

”Don’t be angry. Let me explain,” Qin Jian said as he pulled An Hao to sit down, ”I started to realize it while she was telling her story. The company commander she mentioned in her story is me. Something like that did happen on the battlefield a long time ago, which I had long forgotten. It all came back to me when she mentioned it.”

”You’re right. Who would keep in mind every day who they’d saved? It should be the person who was saved that remembers this.” An Hao’s anger subsided somewhat, and she continued to question, ”How did you know she wanted to get close to you, then?”

After the war ended, he returned to his country.

One day, unexpectedly, his superior approached him, saying someone wanted to meet him and informed him that he was in for some good fortune: the girl he had saved on the battlefield had taken a liking to him and wanted to meet him.

A meeting was scheduled, but the other party didn’t show up.

Later, he found out that the female soldier wouldn’t be coming because she fell severely ill, but Qin Jian didn’t know what kind of illness it was.

Afterward, there was no further news from her.

Today, Cheng Yu told him about her past, which made Qin Jian vaguely remember that he had indeed saved a medic on the battlefield. But he had never asked who it was before nor inquired about it, until her reminder today made him realize that Cheng Yu was that person who had kept him in her thoughts.

Qin Jian already had a family and An Hao; Cheng Yu’s appearance was a trouble.

Rather than telling her that he was the company commander who saved her back then, it was better to pretend he didn’t know.
