Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 690: Chapter 689: Issued an IOU

An Hao, holding the account book, went with Qin Jian to the north room; Qin Ru Hai, who had been busy all day, was exhausted and had laid down early.

Li Junping hadn’t yet gone to sleep and was sitting by the kang, giving Qin Ru Hai a shoulder massage.

Seeing the couple coming in, she quickly made space for them, ”You two really worked hard today! Especially An Hao, if it weren’t for you, this wedding would have made a laughing stock of the Qin family.”

”Mom, you are too kind! What hard work? Things pass, things pass; once they’re over, it’s all good.” An Hao was afraid that Qin Jian would make things difficult, so she took on everything herself.

Though she said she took on everything, it actually just meant pitching in some money.

It’s always been said that with money, tasks are easily done, and this couldn’t be more true.

”Wife, mom is right! It really is your achievement!” If An Hao wasn’t understanding and just refused to give money, the wedding probably wouldn’t have gone smoothly.

”As long as you’re happy,” An Hao said with a smile, glancing at Qin Jian, then pulled out all the gift money from her pocket, ”Mom, here’s the gift money; the money and the account book are all here. You should check it!”

Li Junping was about to reach out to take it, when Qin Ru Hai spoke up, ”Old lady, you count how much money there is and see how much we’ve spent these past few days; then give all the money to An Hao. Any shortfall, we can pay back to An Hao later.”

”I had the same thought.” After all, Qin Jian was a child of the Ning family; they couldn’t let someone from another family exert effort and also contribute money.

Qin Jian naturally refused to accept the money; after all, the Qin Family was facing difficulties now.

This wedding gift money would have to be repaid to each family in the future. With the old couple’s age, and no chances to make money in the future, repaying this debt wouldn’t be easy, would it?

Since the money had been taken out, An Hao had no intention of asking the old couple to pay it back; if anyone were to return it, it would have to be Qin Fen and his wife.

”Keep the money,” An Hao said. ”Now we’re about to face New Year’s expenses soon. If you give the money to me, what will you do?”

Li Junping thought it over, and indeed, that made sense; they couldn’t just hand over the money and then immediately turn around and ask for it back, could they?

That would certainly be inappropriate.

”Alright then! We shall keep it for now,” Li Junping said, as she collected the money.

Having sorted out An Hao’s matters and the night getting late, she planned to return to the An family home with Qin Jian.

Just as Liu Junping was escorting the newlyweds to the door, she heard the sounds of an argument coming from Qin Fen’s room.

This was the first day of their marriage; the evening hadn’t even ended and they were already having a commotion.

Li Junping initially had no intention of getting involved, but then she heard Qin Fen shouting loudly inside.

”Song Yueqin! What kind of mother do you have? I always thought my mother was stingy, but what about yours? Explain to me what all this is about!” Qin Fen pulled out six red paper slips from the red envelope, each bearing a few words.

A watch, a sewing machine, and various other items were mentioned, but there was no sign of money.

What was his mother-in-law thinking? Was she toying with him with these IOUs?

”You ask me; whom should I ask?” Song Yueqin’s voice was also very annoyed, ”Are you angry now that you see this stuff? Did you consider my mother’s feelings when you made her sign those IOUs?”

As expected, the mother-in-law still resented this issue.

So she pulled this stunt at the wedding, huh?

It was fortunate he hadn’t opened it then; if he had, he would have lost all face.

Seeing that Qin Fen had nothing left to say, Song Yueqin continued relentlessly, ”What’s the matter? Lost your tongue? You have no argument? This truly is reaping what you sow, not a bit untrue!”
