Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 687: Chapter 686 Unscrupulous in Conduct

The door panel was completely kicked off, leaving a large hole in it.

Her relatives had just picked themselves up from the ground, dusting off the dirt on their clothes.

On the kang bed, Song Yueqin was no longer there, having been whisked away by that youngster Qin Fen, leaving such a mess behind for her.

”My ancestors!” Zhang Juyun was so angry her lungs nearly exploded as she stood in the courtyard and shouted, ”Folks, you all saw it, didn’t you? How unrighteous are the deeds of the Qin Family? I am the mother-in-law after all, aren’t I? Who does such a thing, taking my daughter away without even sparing a glance at the mother-in-law. Is this how we handle the rites?”

”Forget it. It’s no use talking about it now that the people are gone.” The neighbors understood the big picture, they didn’t know what had happened inside but just saw the person being carried away and were still puzzled.

Hearing what Zhang Juyun said, they all understood; it must have been that the knocking on the door earlier didn’t result in an agreement: ”Today is supposed to be a good day; just cool down! Stop making a fuss and hurry up to have the wedding escort carry the red wrapped gifts and the dowry over!”

At this moment, Song Jincai also came out. After learning of the incident, his face turned ashen and his forehead veins throbbed. Without saying a word, he quickly directed people to send the dowry to the Qin Family.

The people on this side knew that it was the Qin Family who had kicked in the door and taken the bride, but the people in the Qin Family’s courtyard were oblivious, surely assuming that their family had acted indecently by not arranging for a wedding escort, not even providing a dowry.

The wedding escorts rushed out, carrying six red wrapped gifts; one in each person’s hand as they left. It was fortunate that the two families weren’t too far apart, so there was still time for damage control.

As soon as the wedding escorts left, Zhang Juyun went inside, collected up all the red envelopes from a group of children, opened them to look inside, and saw most of them were five yuan notes.

There were seven red envelopes in total, amounting to thirty-five yuan.

She took out fifteen yuan to distribute among the children and pocketed the twenty yuan herself.

She fumed to herself, thinking how the Qin Family had gotten off cheaply.

Qin Fen, with a belly full of fire, had brought Song Yueqin back to his home. As soon as they reached the door, firecrackers erupted, and the crowd flocked to see the new bride.

Everyone saw the new bride but didn’t see anyone from the bride’s family, which started a buzz of gossip.

Song Yueqin heard this but acted as if she hadn’t, following Qin Fen with her head down into the north room.

They followed the tradition of serving tea to the in-laws.

Her mind was even clearer than her mother’s; seeing Qin Fen angered, she kept quiet. Anyone else could be annoyed with her, but never Qin Fen.

If Qin Fen was upset with her, she would lose her influence when speaking in the future.

Thus, she had to firmly grasp onto Qin Fen, so if a storm came, there would be someone from the Qin Family to shield her from the tempest.

After meeting the in-laws, it was time to acknowledge the elder brother and sister-in-law.

Qin Fen led Song Yueqin to Qin Jian and An Hao and said to Yueqin, ”Yueqin, this is your big brother and sister-in-law!”

Song Yueqin looked up at Qin Jian; he was still handsome and unassuming, his face always had a calm expression. But it was precisely this indifferent attitude that Song Yueqin found so mesmerizing.

She cleared her throat and called out with what she thought was her most charming voice, ”Big brother!”

Qin Jian nodded slightly.

Then she turned to look at An Hao: ”Sister-in-law!”

Hearing this ’sister-in-law,’ An Hao felt extremely nauseated inside.

If possible, she wanted nothing to do with Song Yueqin as a co-sister-in-law.

But with so many onlookers, she still smiled at Song Yueqin and nodded her head.
