Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 684: Chapter 683: Blocking the Door for a Red Envelope

”The money isn’t yours; it’s what Mom took out!” Qin Fen still believed that the family had money all along, it’s just that his mother disapproved of their marriage, so she wouldn’t give him any.

”But this is indeed my money.” An Hao crossed her arms and looked at him, ”If you’re not convinced, why don’t you bring out some money?”

”I...” Where would he get the money from?

If he had money, would he still be tolerating this woman’s nonsense?

”If you don’t have money then don’t talk. Whatever arrangement is made for you, that’s what it will be!” An Hao said bluntly.

Qin Fen’s face darkened like the bottom of a pot, too scared to get angry.

He felt so frustrated that he wanted to slam his head against a wall.

”Alright, our family is in a special situation right now, everything that could be thought of for your wedding has been taken care of. Let’s forget about the movie, shall we? These things are secondary. Living a happy life after the wedding is most important.” After Qin Jian finished speaking, he put down his pen.

Qin Fen muttered, ”Not even allowed to enjoy the wedding, how could life afterwards be enjoyable?”

”Ouch, my ancestors! Don’t any of you stop me! I really want to beat this brain-damaged idiot to death!” Li Junping took off her shoe and started hitting Qin Fen with it.

An Hao coldly watched Qin Fen take the beating without intervening.

Qin Jian also felt that his brother was really being too much and pretended not to see anything.

Li Junping gave Qin Fen a beating and then threw the ledger Qin Jian had been keeping at him: ”Take a look at this yourself! This is all the money your brother and sister-in-law have spent. They’ve kept track of every single expense for you. If you think you’ll have the ability to pay it back in the future, then go ahead and splurge!”

Seeing the long string of numbers on the ledger, Qin Fen finally shut up.

He thought he hadn’t spent much, but the array of numbers was frightening enough to scare anyone.

If he had to pay back all that money after getting married, it would be the death of him!

................

A day before the wedding, things were finally straightened out.

An Hao kept her promise and gave money where it was due, treating those who came to help generously with food and drinks.

Everything about the event was so authentic that people were singing An Hao’s praises.

Many were envious of the Qin family, having gained a good son, and now this good son was marrying a wonderful bride.

After busying about for a whole day, they finally made it to the next day.

Before dawn, firecrackers were being set off with a flurry.

The wedding procession had arrived, and Qin Fen’s friends from the village all came, surrounding him as they headed to Song Yueqin’s house.

The two families lived in the same village and weren’t too far apart.

The trend those days was to have the ’big three’—a bicycle, a sewing machine, and a standing fan—when getting married. The Qin family only managed to provide a bicycle, foregoing the other two.

Qin Fen rode that bicycle to Song Yueqin’s house to fetch the bride.

When they reached Song Yueqin’s house, the door was tightly shut, with several of her relatives standing outside waiting for the arrival. As soon as Qin Fen arrived, they started asking him for things.

So, Wang Erzhu’s father began taking out sunflower seeds and candies from the large basket he was carrying.

He was one of the organizers, and he had to keep a firm grip on anything involving money or goods.

They took the seeds and candies, but the demands didn’t stop there; the people inside started asking for red envelopes. Qin Fen, carrying the red envelopes, slipped two through the door crack, and the main door was opened.

Everything went smoothly up front, but when they reached the door to the bride’s room, trouble started.

Song Yueqin had many aunts and many children of the same age, all of whom were crammed into her boudoir waiting to ask Qin Fen for red envelopes.

He gave one for each request, and as he handed them out, the red envelopes An Hao had prepared for him soon ran out, yet the door remained closed.
