Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 604: Chapter 604: Short on Money at Home

Looking at Qin Feng lying on the hospital bed, pallid and lifeless, Qin Jian’s heart sank as well.

”I’ll go ask the doctor about the situation,” Qin Jian said, then turned to leave.

”I’ll come with you,” Qin Ru Hai let out a sigh and followed Qin Jian out.

Qin Jian found Qin Feng’s attending physician and inquired about her condition.

”It’s been three days since she gave birth, right? She seemed responsive during the checkup today. Waking up shouldn’t be a problem. It’s just a matter of time.”

”So, can we take the child back home?” After hearing that she would wake up, Qin Ru Hai thought about bringing Qin Feng back home, since the daily hospital expenses were becoming unaffordable.

Song Fei’s parents were initially dissatisfied with Qin Feng, and even though they seemed sympathetic towards her situation now, who knew how things would be after some time?

Song Fei had already spent all his money on the hospital bills, and the Song Family was unwilling to give more.

Qin Fen and Song Yueqin were also engaged to be married, and the betrothal gifts weren’t cheap. The Qin Family was really strapped for cash.

”It’s better not to. These next few days are critical. Let’s get through this period before discussing any changes,” said the doctor.

Qin Ru Hai nodded and trailed behind Qin Jian with a heavy gait as they walked back.

Qin Jian could see right through Qin Ru Hai’s concerns. ”Dad, are you short on money?”

”No, no, not at all!” Qin Ru Hai hurriedly waved his hands.

Caught in the middle, Qin Jian had it rough enough. He couldn’t keep asking Qin Jian for money. What would Qin Jian do in the future?

Chief Ning and his wife would undoubtedly despise them.

”Really?” Qin Jian pressed.

”Really,” Qin Ru Hai forced a smile. ”Dad wouldn’t lie to you. Trust me.”

”Alright. Then tell me, where is this money coming from?” Qin Jian knew the family’s financial situation all too well—it was clear as day to him.

”Fengfeng is now part of the Song Family. The money is all from them. I thought about bringing Fengfeng back so your mother and I can take better care of her. Song Fei still has to go out to work, right? There will be many expenses in the future,” Qin Ru Hai explained, trying to prevent Qin Jian from getting suspicious.

Qin Ru Hai’s reasoning made sense.

Song Fei did like Qin Feng and was sure not to neglect her, at least for the time being.

Thus, Qin Jian still trusted him.

Trust is trust, but the money that was due still had to be paid.

Returning to the hospital room, Qin Jian asked An Hao to take out the red envelope they had prepared in advance.

Now a Chief of Staff, his salary had increased significantly.

From a monthly wage of one hundred and sixty or seventy yuan, he and An Hao had put together a two-hundred-yuan red envelope for the child.

After visiting Qin Feng, Qin Jian also inquired about Qin Fen’s wedding plans.

Qin Fen said a wedding was likely not happening anytime soon.

The specific reason still came down to a shortage of money.

However, Qin Ru Hai kept giving him meaningful looks, signaling him not to elaborate.

Qin Jian patted his shoulder and said, ”When you get married, remember to send a telegram to the unit. I’ll try to come to your wedding.”

Qin Fen nodded.

The morning passed quickly, and Qin Jian and An Hao said goodbye to the Qin Family and left the hospital.

Qin Ru Hai and Li Junping saw them off.

Watching the couple disappear into the distance, Li Junping burst into tears: ”How are we supposed to live through these days?”

Before Qin Ru Hai had a chance to console her, they heard a voice calling from afar, ”Relatives, mother-in-law! Finally found you.”

Li Junping quickly wiped away her tears and looked up to see Zhang Juyun pulling Song Yueqin over, both hands carrying a full bag of stuff.
