Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1600 - 1601: Gossiping

Qi Taiguo just came back, and he’s injured again, clearly showing he’s physically and mentally exhausted. After talking with Cheng Su for a little while, he fell asleep.

Cheng Su carefully closed the door, tiptoed away, and Mother Cheng asked, ”How is it? Is there anything wrong?”

”It’s nothing, the mission had some hiccups. He’s sleeping now. Let’s let him rest for a while.” Cheng Su said.

”Injured?”

Cheng Su, worried she might be concerned, said, ”Just a small wound on the thigh, it doesn’t affect anything.” She didn’t mention it was a gunshot, otherwise, her old mom would probably rush to burn incense and pray.

”That’s good then!” Mother Cheng breathed a sigh of relief, said, ”Is Xiao Qi asleep? If he is, I’ll put him down!”

”Asleep.” Cheng Su replied, and as Mother Cheng untied the sling, she thought for a moment and asked, ”Mom, have you seen Sister-in-law Gao these days? Haven’t seen her for two days.”

”Sister-in-law Gao? A few days earlier I saw her carrying a large bag and leading her child along with the people from the unit.” Mother Cheng said, ”What’s wrong?”

Cheng Su felt a slight pang in her heart, forcing a smile, ”Nothing, just feel like it’s been a while since I’ve seen her.”

From now on, maybe I’ll never see her again?

Cheng Su guessed right, within a couple of days, the unit announced that Gao Linbing sacrificed himself during a mission.

And for Sister-in-law Gao and her family, it’s only natural that they ”returned to their hometown”, but where exactly they are headed is hard to say.

Qi Taiguo said they might be monitored.

Cheng Su sighed, wondering how Sister-in-law Gao would feel upon hearing the news that her companion was a spy for the enemy nation, and now has defected.

However, the two were married for many years and even had a child. To her, no matter what identity Gao Linbing had, he was only her husband, their child’s father.

Yet unexpectedly, he died, and living people also left, while others still gossip behind their back.

Taking advantage of the great sunshine, Cheng Su returned from school and pushed Qi Xiaoqi around the courtyard.

This afternoon, there were quite a few people in the courtyard basking in the sun and knitting, seeing Cheng Su, they greeted her and teased Qi Xiaoqi a bit.

”...They say he sacrificed himself, but I heard that Deputy Battalion Commander Gao might have turned traitor. Otherwise, how could they leave in such a rush? Didn’t even move much of the stuff from home. If it was truly a glorious sacrifice, everything would have been properly sorted, wouldn’t it?”

Cheng Su paused her steps and turned to look, it was the reputed big-mouthed Sister-in-law Hong.

”That can’t be right? Maybe it’s because it happened suddenly, Deputy Battalion Commander Gao usually was pretty reasonable, unlike what you said about being a traitor. And Sister-in-law Gao, even more so, being the women’s director of our family community.” Someone said.

”Hey, as the saying goes, you know a person’s face but not their heart. You don’t know this? Seeing how proud she was usually, now something happened, not even a peep. In my view...”

Cheng Su pushed Qi Xiaoqi over and said, ”Sister-in-law Hong, let’s show some respect for the deceased. They’re not here anymore, what’s the point of saying such insensitive things? The deceased are gone, let’s have some virtue in speech.”

Sister-in-law Hong turned red with embarrassment from Cheng Su’s reprimand.

”Besides, the organization already announced Deputy Battalion Commander Gao’s sacrifice, so he did sacrifice, or are you questioning the organization’s leadership? In fact, while the men fight at the front, we family members should handle the household chores well at the back.” Cheng Su continued, ”Put yourself in others’ shoes, think about it, if it were you, and people talked like this behind your back after death, wouldn’t you feel upset?”

Cheng Su felt truly angry in her heart. What wrong did Sister-in-law Gao do, enduring the pain of losing her husband, and with her status, facing a double blow, who knows where she is suffering now, yet they speak of her so cruelly.
