Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1598 - 1599: Who Can I Still Trust

What?

Gao Linbing is a spy for the enemy country?

Cheng Su stood up in shock, how could this be possible, how could this happen?

Gao Linbing and Sister-in-law Gao were both people with a good relationship with her family, and both were quite amiable, especially Sister-in-law Gao, who helped her a lot. But now Qi Taiguo says he’s a spy from another country?

Cheng Su swallowed, so, is that why he is so upset? Because he feels deceived, betrayed?

”What on earth is going on? Can you explain?” Cheng Su sat back down and asked.

If it were someone else, she might not have inquired, but those two had always been good to them. How could such good people suddenly become spies?

”He’s Japanese. Many years ago, he replaced the real Gao Linbing and enlisted, lying dormant until today. This mission was to coordinate with an intelligence officer because he held the list of spies stationed in our country by the enemy.” Qi Taiguo said flatly.

Cheng Su was smart, and with Qi Taiguo’s words, she immediately understood.

The intelligence officer on their side had the list of spies placed in their country, and once that was exposed, all of their enemy’s efforts to nurture spies would be ruined, and then Gao Linbing couldn’t remain hidden and would inevitably be exposed.

So, that intelligence officer was crucial, and was Gao Linbing a part of this mission to deal with that officer?

”Did he receive notification?” Cheng Su asked.

Qi Taiguo nodded: ”Probably!”

”Then where is he now?” Cheng Su asked anxiously.

”He’s dead!” Qi Taiguo said, as if referring to someone unimportant, but Cheng Su heard the sadness and heaviness in his voice.

Suddenly, she understood his grief. A comrade he had faced life and death with turned out to be a foreign spy. This isn’t just a personal betrayal, but on a national and individual level, it’s almost the same.

And that person, who was once so close to her, suddenly had his entire existence overturned and turned fake.

How can this be accepted?

Cheng Su suddenly pulled back his blanket and said, ”Mom said you were injured? Let me see where the wound is. Did he do it?”

”It’s nothing, I just got shot in the leg. He deliberately aimed off.” Qi Taiguo held her hand and said.

Cheng Su was stunned again.

”He had been undercover for so long, living as the real Gao Linbing, experiencing his life. He genuinely invested emotions in all those past days, that’s why people believed him.” Qi Taiguo let out a sarcastic laugh, ”But in the end, he still couldn’t forget his mission. Why go through all this trouble? If he was loyal to his country, why be lenient to me? Gao Linbing, he is such a bastard!”

Qi Taiguo’s tears once again flowed uncontrollably.

Who says men don’t cry easily, it’s just because they haven’t reached the point of heartbreak.

Qi Taiguo’s heartbreak was because he truly considered Gao Linbing a brother, and Gao Linbing’s actions made it even harder for him.

If his heart had been ruthless enough to end it with a bullet, or cripple him, perhaps he wouldn’t feel this sorrow.

Yet Gao Linbing was lenient, even choosing to end his life by bullet in the end.

It’s precisely these conflicting emotions that cause such grief.

Listening to this, Cheng Su felt a pang of pain in her heart, how could it be like this? This was too unexpected!

”A comrade and brother who faced life and death together, suddenly one day, you find out they can’t be trusted, and you didn’t notice a single thing. Susu, tell me, who else can I trust?” Qi Taiguo looked at her, his eyes full of doubt about the world.
