Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1583 - 1584: Mother Qi’s Anger

Physical cooling was of little use to Xiao Qi; his temperature dropped slightly, and soon rose again. Qi Taiguo rushed home after finishing work and, without a word, picked up his son and headed to the hospital.

Cheng Su followed him with reddened eyes, and Qi Taiguo said, ”It’s normal for children to have a fever. Why are you crying? Hurry up and wipe your tears, don’t let people laugh at you!”

”Seeing him uncomfortable makes me feel very bad inside.” Cheng Su sniffled and said.

In the past, she had seen many examples where families had to raise money to treat a child’s serious illness. She felt quite sorry for those parents, but wasn’t deeply affected. Now, as a mother herself, she truly empathizes.

Xiao Qi was just feverish and listless, yet she felt this bad. If, heaven forbid, he had a serious illness, wouldn’t it be the death of her?

Cheng Su remembered that phrase, wishing the pain he felt could transfer entirely to her.

This is a mother’s heart.

The couple arrived at the hospital, where a temperature check showed his fever had reached thirty-nine degrees. They administered an injection and prescribed medication.

During the injection, Xiao Qi wailed loudly, which was heart-wrenching, and Cheng Su couldn’t help but cry alongside him.

Qi Taiguo was caught between laughter and tears, soothing both his son and his wife.

With Xiao Qi’s illness, Cheng Su took a few days off to stay home, caring for him. During this time, Qiulan upstairs got married, but Cheng Su couldn’t attend, only sending a significant red envelope.

Xiao Qi’s illness even alerted the family back home, with Mother Qi insisting on coming over to personally take care of her grandson.

”How could he suddenly get a fever? It’s all because they didn’t manage things properly. His mother still goes to school and runs a business, where does she find the time to look after the child? This won’t do, I must come and take care of my grandson. I’m not reassured.” Mother Qi complained.

Previously, she looked down on Cheng Su, thinking she had little ability, and clung to her son Taiguo through manipulation. Now, she felt Cheng Su was too capable, with too many things to handle, failing to properly care for her grandson, leading to his illness.

Father Qi said, ”Stop making a fuss. You can barely walk yourself, how can you take care of a child? Sitting and holding the child is all you call caring for him? It’s unclear who is helping whom!”

”Whose child doesn’t get a fever? Xiao Qi is already three months old and only now has his first fever—it’s because the weather turned cold, which is normal. You still dare say she isn’t taking care of him well? This is something to discuss here, but don’t say it outside, or it will hurt the in-law’s feelings! They are completely devoted to helping care for your daughter-in-law during her confinement and now with the child.”

Father Qi wasn’t surprised by the grandson being sick; a child having a fever is the most common thing. Yet Mother Qi saw it as a major issue.

”It’s cold weather leading to illness; what happens in the future?” Mother Qi said discontentedly, ”It’s cold every year, will he have a fever every year?”

”Hey! Stop cursing the child. The grandson is still young, if he isn’t constantly feverish, having a mild fever is good for his body—it helps to expel the virus!” Father Qi said. ”I’m telling you, don’t blindly join in. Your own leg isn’t even healed yet!”

Mother Qi’s leg was out of the cast, but being older, after only a few months, it hadn’t completely healed. She wasn’t daring to exert herself, still needing to use a crutch, walking with a limp.

Annoyed as she was, looking at her own leg made her even angrier.

”Will my leg never fully recover, meaning I can’t take care of children for life?” she said gloomily, feeling very wronged.

Father Qi rolled his eyes and shook his head, accustomed to the occasional sarcasm from his wife.
