Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1567: Chapter 1568: The Younger Brother’s Future

Cheng Su was busy dealing with business affairs, while Mother Qi, who stayed in Qing City for the holiday, was busy going to the temple to pray. Her excuse was to make offerings for good luck during the festival, but everyone knew her main purpose was for Xiao Qi.

In order to hold Xiao Qi, Mother Qi’s devotion to the Bodhisattva was exceptionally sincere. Arriving at the temple, she supported herself with crutches, making her way slowly into the temple, kneeling, burning incense, donating oil—utterly genuine in her faith.

When Cheng Su returned home, her in-laws were not back yet, only her own parents were there.

”Waaah.”

As soon as Qi Xiaoqi saw her, he began to cry with a pouty mouth, looking pitiful.

”What’s wrong? Hungry?” Cheng Su took her son from Father Cheng’s hands and asked him, ”Hasn’t he eaten?”

”He had a little formula, but nothing beats mother’s milk, right? Hurry and feed him some more, and then drink this bowl of stewed chicken with donkey-hide gelatin,” Mother Cheng said, bringing in a large bowl.

Cheng Su shivered and said, ”Mom, I’m already done with my postpartum confinement. I don’t need to drink this anymore, right?”

During her confinement period, her mom kept giving her different nutritional supplements, and she had gained weight like she was flying in a helicopter.

Mother Cheng glared at her, ”Stop pretending. Many people want to eat this but can’t! That Sister-in-law Song, if I hadn’t been watching in the kitchen, she’d probably have sneaked some already.”

This...

”Mom, it’s not that serious, is it?”

”It’s true. Your mom kept going into the kitchen hundreds of times ever since she put down that soup,” Father Cheng said. ”She said she was afraid the neighbors would sneak some. Who would do that? It’s just your mom being possessive about food.”

Mother Cheng sniffed, ”You don’t know how strange some people can be. I’ve caught her once before.”

A while back, when she was cooking chicken soup, that Sister-in-law Song slyly lifted the lid and got caught red-handed, but she didn’t blush at all. She claimed she was just checking what good stuff was in it. Her thick skin completely changed Mother Cheng’s perception.

Cheng Su noticed the door was open and said, ”Mom, keep your voice down.”

Mother Cheng pursed her lips and said, ”If she did it, why should we be afraid to say something?” But her voice did lower significantly.

Cheng Su let Father Cheng sit while she took the child to nurse him. After lulling him to sleep, she sat in the living room sipping soup and chatting with Father Cheng.

Father Cheng and the others stayed for the festival, but Cheng Zhi went back to their hometown with Third Uncle, saying he found it boring in the city and wanted to play with his two cousins and classmates. Unable to persuade him, they let him go.

”He said after the holiday, he would head to Guangcheng with your Third Uncle to start a life. I figured he’s not much for studying, and since he doesn’t want to repeat a year, let him go and see if he can make something of himself. After all, your Third Uncle will be there to watch over him; no worries!” Father Cheng discussed Cheng Zhi’s plans with his daughter.

Cheng Su knew her younger brother hadn’t gotten into college, and she felt regretful, though not extremely so. In the late ’80s, with everyone chasing economic opportunities, it still seemed like a good time to capitalize on that momentum. If the young man is smart, he might just achieve something.

”In my opinion, finding him a job here with his sister wouldn’t be bad. After all, a sister would take better care of him than the Third Uncle, wouldn’t she?” Mother Cheng chimed in.

”Mom, it’s not that it can’t be done with me. But the opportunities in Guangcheng are greater. In the future, my business will probably expand vigorously there too. Cheng Zhi would achieve more there than in Qing City!” Cheng Su said.

”Exactly, what do you, with your long hair and short knowledge, know? Haven’t you seen how well your Third Uncle is doing nowadays?” Father Cheng snorted lightly.

”Alright, alright, you father and daughter know a lot. I’ll keep quiet,” Mother Cheng shrugged and went into the bathroom to wash Qi Xiaoqi’s diapers.
