Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1586 - 1587: The Death of Secretary Gao

Qi Taiguo went on a mission, Qi Xiaoqi recovered from his illness, and Cheng Su returned to her usual routine, going to school, occasionally checking on the business, and spending more time with her son.

In the past, when Qi Taiguo went on missions, she couldn’t help feeling lonely at home. But now with Qi Xiaoqi babbling all day, Cheng Su didn’t feel as lonely and isolated. Playing with her child every day and watching his every smile and frown had become the most relaxing and carefree moments since her rebirth. It’s no wonder that having a child in a family brings so much liveliness, and it also strengthens the bond between a couple.

The days passed in the usual family routines. On this weekend, after Cheng Su put Qi Xiaoqi to sleep, she picked up the newspaper that Mother Cheng brought back to read the news.

She liked reading newspapers because it kept her informed about current events. She always read those from major news agencies, with news about national affairs. Her mother often commented that she wasn’t involved in anything significant, so why bother reading them, as she wouldn’t understand them anyway.

Cheng Su always brushed this off with a smile, but when she opened the newspaper this time, a headline made her sit up straight, her mouth slightly open.

Gao Hongbo is dead!

It was a small obituary statement saying that Gao Hongbo had died of an illness and mentioning when the memorial service would be held.

How could this be? Gao Hongbo was Jiang Qing’s current support, so how did he just die so suddenly? And due to an illness, no less.

Cheng Su was shocked, and rereading the statement confirmed it was indeed the secretary from that place, not someone else with the same name. So, is Jiang Qing’s lover truly dead?

This was too unexpected!

She grabbed the porcelain cup on the coffee table and gulped down the cold tea, sitting there in a daze.

Gao Hongbo is dead, so what about Jiang Qing? Where is she now?

”What’s up with your face? It’s as pale as a ghost’s?” Mother Cheng came in with a bowl of fried meatballs and asked when she saw Cheng Su’s worried expression.

”Nothing!”

”Oh. Sister-in-law Song gave us these meatballs. Do you want some? I think she’s trying very hard to mend the relationship. Look how generous she is; she wasn’t like this before...” Mother Cheng rambled on.

But Cheng Su couldn’t hear a word she was saying, her head filled with thoughts of Jiang Qing.

Gao Hongbo’s death was indeed sudden, and it was publicly stated to be due to an illness, and he did have diabetes. This explanation wasn’t implausible. Everyone just felt sorry for his sudden passing, especially since he was retiring next year and died at this time.

But stating he died of an illness might deceive outsiders, yet it would never fool Ning Ge, especially since Gao Hongbo had hidden away his darling Jiang Qing, that lunatic. With Gao Hongbo dead and Jiang Qing missing, there must be something fishy here, Ning Ge thought.

Moreover, although Gao Hongbo had diabetes, he was otherwise healthy and not even sixty years old. How could he just die suddenly? And the secrecy about Jiang Qing, could anyone believe they hid her but never engaged with her? That’s just unbelievable.

Ning Ge disliked being kept in the dark about events, so he reached out to Bai Ying.

”Find out how this old man died. I don’t believe this ’died of an illness’ story. I want to know what’s really going on here,” Ning Ge said to Bai Ying. ”Also, where did Jiang Qing go? Find that out for me too!”

Bai Ying looked at him with boredom: ”Fourth Young Master Ning, you’re now a first-class ’good citizen’. Is it really appropriate for you to ask me to investigate these things? You used to be one of us, so you should know the rules!”

Ning Ge chuckled, pushing a box towards her: ”This is a birthday gift for you.”

Bai Ying glanced at it, then rolled her eyes at him with disdain, saying, ”I can only give you the public information.”

”Alright!”
