Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1599 - 1600: He Never Harmed You

Cheng Su looked at the doubt and disappointment in his eyes, lay down on the bed, embraced him, and said, ”Have you heard of the saying ’give up eating for fear of choking’?”

Qi Taiguo looked at her.

”The original meaning of this saying is that because someone choked while eating, they simply gave up eating altogether. It’s used as a metaphor for not doing something due to a minor problem or fear of issues. Wouldn’t you say that’s ridiculous?” Cheng Su said, ”In fact, in our lives we will meet many people, and it’s not like everyone will stay in your life. A friend you were once very close to might one day turn against you because of interests, betray you—that’s human nature. But just because we’ve been hurt once, does that mean we shouldn’t dare to make a new friend or trust another person?”

”Life is like a play. Only when you stand from the perspective of different protagonists do you question whether what you insist on is right. Take you and Gao Linbing, for example. You both represent two countries; you have your views, and so does he. Since ancient times, countries have resorted to every scheme and given their all for territory, and both countries’ people firmly believe their country is just and right, viewing the other as executioners, as invaders. Who’s to say they don’t think the same?”

Qi Taiguo pressed his lips together and said, ”I know, it’s just that...”

”It’s just that you feel betrayed, and for the moment, you can’t bring yourself to accept and believe this fact.” Cheng Su held his hand, intertwining their fingers, and said, ”Gao Linbing is merely standing on his ground and representing his nation. Don’t blame him for it. If it were you, you might be the same!”

Qi Taiguo froze but didn’t refute.

Perhaps, if it were him, he might truly act the same way because they are soldiers!

”After everything, I don’t know if I can trust anyone again, and whether those around me are fake too.” Qi Taiguo’s eyes darkened.

Cheng Su placed her hand on his heart, saying, ”Feel with your heart. It will guide you to the right place.”

”Will it?” Qi Taiguo smiled bitterly, ”This time, didn’t I also truly care for him?”

”There’s nothing to be done about it. From the start, you both represented two different stands, and when those stands collide, they must revert to their final positions. In reality, Old Gao, after lurking for many years, probably didn’t expect this outcome either.” Cheng Su said, ”He lived in this country for many years, married, and had children. If not for this unexpected incident, he might have forgotten he was Japanese. You should know, back when you were getting along, he truly existed, he never harmed you, did he?”

Qi Taiguo was silent, precisely because of this, that he was so shocked when Gao Linbing revealed himself to be an enemy spy.

”Don’t overthink it. Everyone has a balance scale in their heart. Whichever side it tips to, your heart already knows the answer. Don’t feel like you can’t trust anyone anymore. Even if Gao Linbing is no longer here, he ultimately didn’t harm you; he just returned to his stand.” Cheng Su comforted.

Qi Taiguo nodded, saying, ”Am I useless? To be troubled over such a small matter?”

”Nonsense. If it were anyone, they wouldn’t take it well, not just you. Even I’d find it unreal, after all, he was someone we were close to!”

Qi Taiguo’s eyelids lowered slightly, ”I just don’t know where Sister-in-law Gao and the others have gone to!”

Cheng Su also sighed, indeed, orphans and widows, with Gao Linbing having such an identity, where could they possibly go?
