Chapter 1656: Chapter 1664: Hold Me Once

The first time Jane Sampson faced death was when she was only ten years old.

It was when she bid farewell to her piano teacher who died in a car accident.

At that time, everyone told her that the teacher was gone, had gone to heaven and wouldn’t return.

As a young girl, she was still unfamiliar with the word ”death.”

She knew the teacher was gone and she would not see him again.

However, at that time, her heart was not in deep anguish, just a little reluctant.

Like her Chinese teacher who taught her for many years had to transfer to another school, she was just a bit reluctant.

She watched the teacher’s family crying so hard they could barely stand. At that time, she didn’t understand what kind of taste this pain of bidding farewell to a loved one was.

But, when she faced the word ”death” again, she finally understood that the emotion she didn’t grasp back then was the kind that tears your heart apart.

And this time, it was saying goodbye to Granny Sampton.

Jane Sampson finally understood that in one’s life, the hardest thing to withstand is the parting between life and death.

As people, we are indeed very weak.

No matter how hard we try to hold on, we can’t hold onto the person fate intends to take away.

People can fight fate, but we cannot fight life and death.

The day Grandpa Sampton was buried, it rained. The day Granny Sampson was buried, it was sunny.

Jane Sampson remembered Granny Sampson telling her that the day she was born was sunny, the day she married Grandpa Sampton was sunny, so the day she leaves would definitely be sunny too.

And Jane Sampson, who always hated rainy days, actually wished she could turn back time a few days so it would rain every day from then on, never seeing the sun again.

Grandpa and Granny Sampson were buried together, the elderly couple only separated briefly twice in their lifetime.

Once was when Grandpa Sampton joined the guard team, and Granny Sampson waited at home for his return.

The second time was from the day Grandpa Sampton passed to the days after Granny Sampson left too.

After that last separation, the two would never be apart again.

In the photo, Granny Sampson smiles kindly. Jane Sampson crouches by her grave, looking at the photo, feeling as if grandma is standing right in front of her, smiling at her.

”Sis, let’s go back.” Bright Sampton bent down to help Jane Sampson up.

”You go back first, I’ll stay here with grandma a little longer.” Jane Sampson shook her head. Seeing Bright Sampton’s worried face, she said, ”I’m fine, just let your brother-in-law accompany me here, you go on back.”

”Is your body okay?” Bright Sampton was worried about Jane Sampson’s health.

”Much better than when I woke up this morning.” Jane Sampson shook her head, ”I think the fever has subsided.”

”You go back first, I’ll stay here with your sister,” James Black said, then took Jane Sampson from Bright Sampton’s hands and gently adjusted her coat collar to keep the wind from seeping in.

Bright Sampson nodded and turned to send off the relatives.

After everyone left, James Black asked Jane Sampson, ”Would you like some water?” While asking, he reached out to feel her forehead.

Her forehead was still a bit warm, but much better than yesterday.

”Not thirsty.” Jane Sampson shook her head lightly, then suddenly said, ”James Black, can you hold me for a moment?”

James Black paused slightly, not expecting Jane Sampson to suddenly ask him to hold her.
