I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 759: Chapter 758: Thirty Thousand per Bottle

Zhou Tielong frowned as well, ”If you’re treating the illness, focus on that. Why are you asking so many questions? Can it be cured or not? If not, I’ll find someone else!”

Jiang Mingzhong snorted coldly upon seeing his rude attitude towards Beisitian, ”There’s a reason for asking. Are you hiding some unspeakable secret?”

The man showed no respect to Beisitian, so Jiang Mingzhong didn’t feel the need to be polite either.

Zhou Tielong’s eyes flashed. With his usual fiery temper, he would have slammed the table and cursed, but this time he didn’t. He just knitted his brows.

”Do you know where to go for a cure?” he asked Jiang Mingzhong.

”Of course, once we know the place, we can understand the environment and the kind of bacteria it breeds. That helps us diagnose quickly.” Jiang Mingzhong explained patiently, glancing at Beisitian.

Zhou Tielong looked troubled, sighed, and said, ”I don’t know where my daughter went, but before she left, she said she was off to find the Peach Blossom Spring. Isn’t that a village isolated from the world? I didn’t think much of it. Who knew she’d return like this?”

Beisitian saw that Zhou Tielong was speaking truthfully and was lost in thought watching the woman on the bed.

Zhou Tielong looked at Jiang Mingzhong and the young woman, feeling both anxious and helpless. The task had been posted for two weeks, and only because no one else took it did he consider using Jiang Mingzhong. He knew the Association valued points—a high score means real expertise. He wanted to find an expert.

But experts didn’t take his task because the pay wasn’t appealing.

”Doctor, what’s wrong with my daughter? Can you give me an explanation? Is there any life danger?” Zhou Tielong asked them.

Jiang Mingzhong looked at Beisitian. He could only determine that the woman was unconscious due to some bacterial infection, but he didn’t know the specifics or the possible consequences.

Beisitian shook her head, ”There’s no life danger. Your daughter probably intruded into someone’s territory and got infected with these bacteria.”

”Infected? What do you mean? Someone did it intentionally!” Zhou Tielong flared up at the suggestion. He cherished his daughter, and the thought of someone doing such a heartless thing enraged him.

Beisitian glanced at him coolly, ”The opponent has already shown mercy. Whether the bacteria occurred naturally or were man-made, if they truly wanted your daughter dead, you’d probably never see her body.”

Beisitian was blunt, and Zhou Tielong broke out in a cold sweat from her words. To him, engineered bacteria were akin to viruses manufactured by some other countries. Moreover, he deeply understood the power and fear induced by the Mystic Doctor. Without money and connections with some Mystics, he wouldn’t dare show such an attitude to Jiang Mingzhong and Beisitian.

All things considered, the opponent indeed showed mercy.

”Is there a way to treat my daughter?” Zhou Tielong asked urgently.

Engineered bacteria aren’t something anyone can create. It wasn’t until Beisitian was over seventy that she figured out how to produce such bacteria, which were meant to counteract poisons.

Because of this, Beisitian had researched such things, and since the opponent didn’t intend harm, likely just to protect their territory from intrusion, the amount of bacteria used was small, inducing only unconsciousness and possibly memory loss for a certain period.

So treating this woman wasn’t difficult.

However...

”She can be cured, but my medicine is expensive, thirty thousand per bottle,” Beisitian said nonchalantly, looking at Zhou Tielong.

Normally her medicine would be just over ten thousand per bottle, but since this involves engineered bacteria, even if the opponent had shown mercy, creating the corresponding Xuan Talisman wasn’t straightforward and consumed energy. As such, a bottle of medicine priced around twenty thousand was reasonable.

Beisitian inflated the price because she disliked the coal mine boss’s attitude and gaze. In any case, the woman faced no life danger, and left untreated for too long, the worst outcome was malnutrition and muscle atrophy.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Tielong widened his eyes and sneered, ”Young lady, think it through before speaking. Such blatant price gouging! Be careful, or the Association might expel you. Mystic Doctor’s medicine isn’t something to be sold casually. Don’t think you can fool me!”

”The price is set. Whether you want the treatment is up to you. If not, you can seek someone else. We’ll cancel the task,” Beisitian didn’t bother with extra words or explanations.

Cancelling the task meant losing a significant amount of points, potentially damaging the reputation, but since Beisitian decided, Jiang Mingzhong naturally complied.

Zhou Tielong wasn’t naive; he wouldn’t let Beisitian succeed like this. He wouldn’t agree. She might look young, but she was greedy!

However, she was pretty and young, which was enough to entice many men. Unfortunately, being a Mystic Doctor with abilities meant she wasn’t easily deceived. Otherwise, befriending her wouldn’t be bad.

Ultimately, Jiang Mingzhong canceled the task, losing over a thousand points. Despite some colleagues’ curiosity, he didn’t offer explanations.

On the way back to the small courtyard, Jiang Mingzhong couldn’t resist asking Beisitian, ”Doctor Bei, what are engineered bacteria? How are they different from bad water?”

He had never even heard of such a term.

Beisitian explained, ”Bad water is lifeless and must actively affect a person, whereas bacteria, like most, can survive naturally. Some advanced bacteria are living.”

Beisitian’s words indeed surprised Jiang Mingzhong, wasn’t this akin to creating life?

Beisitian heard his questioning, chuckled, and said, ”Of course, it’s different. The source of engineered bacteria also comes from nature, derived from other bacteria. They are simply cultivated and altered by Mystics to produce desired effects.”

Such bacteria are typically used by Mystics to set traps. In terms of depth of harm, they wouldn’t surpass bad water, but their range is vast. With enough skill, one could infect an entire city with bacteria. Imagine what that would be like. This is why authorities both love and fear Mystics.

In truth, engineered bacteria aren’t common. Most involve slight modifications to natural bacteria, thus yielding limited effects.

Yet what Zhou Tielong’s daughter had was not this ’counterfeit’ variety but genuine engineered bacteria, which was why Beisitian was so startled. At this world’s Mystic level, it was impossible for anyone to create engineered bacteria!

Yet she had witnessed these bacteria firsthand.

Beisitian hadn’t cured the woman directly also due to this concern. She wanted to see if, with the appearance of engineered bacteria, someone capable of offering a cure would emerge?
