I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 444: Chapter 443: Growing Doubts

Liu Jing frowned at Jiang Yanmei and asked, ”Sister Jiang, did it work?”

Jiang Yanmei, still catching her breath, nodded repeatedly upon hearing this. ”It really works. This young doctor said it would hurt, but it didn’t hurt at all. My stomach didn’t hurt either. Once I squatted down, it came out effortlessly. I haven’t been able to relieve myself so easily in years. Young doctor, can you prescribe me some more?”

Beisitian shook her head. ”Quick results address the symptoms but not the root cause. I’ll give you another prescription later. Stick to drinking it for a week, and things will get better.”

Jiang Yanmei was startled upon hearing that. She’s been dealing with traditional Chinese medicine for a long time and has a deep understanding of their rhetoric. Usually, at this point, even Doctor Qin would only say that there would be an improvement after a certain period, not that things would get better in a certain time.

Traditional Chinese medicine isn’t like Western medicine; it is known for gradual effects. Therefore, hearing these words, Jiang Yanmei became skeptical of Beisitian. The skepticism mainly stemmed from her age. How could a Chinese medicine practitioner be so young?

But just now her medicine worked, which was genuine. Even using a whole bottle of laxative would take some time. She seemed almost immune to laxatives, and the waiting time was getting longer and longer, which terrified her. What if laxatives stopped working one day? Would she be suffocated alive?

Although Jiang Yanmei was skeptical of Beisitian, she was still grateful there was a new medicine to replace the laxative. If this situation arose again, she could just come to get this medicine.

Afterward, Beisitian prescribed Jiang Yanmei two sets of medicine: one to regulate the intestines and treat constipation, and another to alleviate menopausal symptoms caused by menopause.

The intestinal regulation would work faster, and her bowel movements should return to normal in three to five days. However, the menopausal symptoms would take longer to address, as they are physiologically induced, with most women experiencing mild to severe symptoms two to three years before and after menopause. Jiang Yanmei’s case was quite severe.

Consequently, she developed other ailments, such as constipation, due to poor sleep, overactive heart and liver fire, and low water intake, exacerbating her constipation.

”Both medicines need to be brewed. I’ve written the instructions on the prescription. If you stick to it for three to five days, you’ll be cured. But the menopausal symptoms will require more time,” Beisitian said.

Jiang Yanmei wasn’t afraid of brewing the medicine. She didn’t have to work. Every day she just cooked for her husband at home, so she had plenty of time to brew medicine. Her only fear was if it wouldn’t work.

Instinctively, Jiang Yanmei glanced at Luo Xinfang. Seeing she said nothing, she took the prescription to get the medicine.

Whether it works or not, a week would reveal the results. If it doesn’t work, so be it.

After Jiang Yanmei left, Liu Jing walked out with a somber face without saying anything about her intentions.

Once Liu Jing left, Zhou Wenwen rolled her eyes dramatically, ”Got slapped in the face, huh?”

Luo Xinfang gave her a disgruntled look and said softly, ”She’s not far away yet.”

She never speaks ill of anyone behind their back, so her saying this indicates she has an issue with Liu Jing. Zhou Wenwen laughed and said, ”She can’t hear it.”

After saying this, she turned to Beisitian and said, ”Xiao Bei, you’re really amazing. Don’t even mention when I first started working, even now, I can’t get Aunt Jiang to relieve herself so quickly. You really showed her, proving you’re truly capable!”

Now, she had a super good impression of Beisitian because she disciplined someone Zhou Wenwen couldn’t handle.

Beisitian smiled silently. Starting off on the wrong foot with someone felt uncomfortable, but that’s how society is. Some seniors always bully newcomers to some extent, at most varying in degree.

She wasn’t planning to care about petty things, but Liu Jing went too far. She wasn’t inclined to tolerate it, and now she certainly wouldn’t hold back since she had already made an enemy.

She originally wanted to be a modest newcomer, but someone insisted on being difficult.

However, generally speaking, if you keep a firm stance, the seniors wouldn’t dare bully excessively. Liu Jing is like this, although she doesn’t treat Beisitian warmly, she’s quite different from when Zhou Wenwen first arrived. At the very least, she doesn’t dare make careless remarks, fearing she might be speechless from rebuttals.

Qin Fengwang nodded after hearing about the incident, without saying much. He was the oldest here and the director of the TCM department, but there were only a few people, so he didn’t need to manage or worry about much. It’s not like other industries, where there’s performance pressure.

Beisitian got familiar with the environment over two days and was assigned to Department 1, sharing a consultation room with Qin Fengwang, as there was an empty desk in his room.

Being in the same room as Qin Fengwang made Beisitian quite happy. She was very interested in the prescriptions he wrote because, unlike other traditional old Chinese doctors, he sometimes innovated with his prescriptions, often achieving unexpected results.

”How do you find these two days here?” Qin Fengwang looked at the young person across from him, feeling slightly comforted.

He worried that traditional Chinese medicine might face a disconnect in the next generation or the one after. Considering the age gap, it was quite concerning.

”It’s great. Everyone’s been very supportive,” Beisitian said, uttering formal words.

It’s hard to tell if they are supportive, especially Liu Jing, who was nice enough not to pick on her.

”Get used to the new environment first,” Qin Fengwang knew about the recent events and understood that the more one talks about such matters, the messier they become. So, it’s better not to say much. ”Xiao Bei has already been confirmed, right? I’ve met Director Sun of the 119th Division a few times. He even called me personally to praise you, saying how excellent you are. Director Sun praises no one lightly.”

Qin Fengwang had a rough understanding of Beisitian from the words of Sun Wangcai. He wasn’t lying. Sun Wangnian never praises anyone casually. His standards are very high. When he praised Beisitian extravagantly, Qin Fengwang almost thought Doctor Bei was related to Director Sun.

After chatting for a while, Qin Fengwang refrained from asking any challenging questions, which put Beisitian at ease.

”By the way, Xiao Bei, do you know Associate Professor Zheng?” Qin Fengwang suddenly asked.

Beisitian was taken aback and asked, ”Which Associate Professor Zheng?”

Seeing Beisitian’s genuine reaction, Qin Fengwang felt puzzled because Associate Professor Zheng had specifically inquired about Beisitian. From his demeanor, that didn’t seem like unfamiliarity.

”Associate Professor Zheng from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute,” Qin Fengwang prompted.

Beisitian realized he was talking about Zheng Qiwai. Thinking of her first encounter with this associate professor, she frowned as it was not a pleasant experience.

Since Qin Fengwang asked, it seemed Zheng Qiwai had inquired about her. She suddenly thought of the external Chinese medicine doctor. Could it be him?!

”He’s our external doctor!”

Qin Fengwang’s words made Beisitian smile wryly.
