I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 424: Chapter 423: Named Disciple

Luo Xudong carried Beisitian out and put her on the ground before letting her open her eyes.

When Beisitian opened her eyes, she saw many soldiers in camouflage uniforms and boots holding weapons behind her, and immediately felt so embarrassed she wished she could disappear. She hadn’t expected there to be so many people!

Wei Zhongxun assisted Tian Zhiye out of the warehouse. Luo Xudong waved his hand lightly, and immediately a team of men carrying guns rushed in.

Their mission this time was to capture a cross-border arms smuggling gang; they hadn’t expected that those people would be involved, meaning the three people already dead inside.

The organization those three belonged to also seemed to be illegally purchasing weapons, but the three inside were already dead, strangled to death by chains.

Luo Xudong glanced at Wei Zhongxun. It was his doing.

However, he was not a police officer, so he naturally wouldn’t take Wei Zhongxun back to file a case. Watching the people below carry out the two from inside, he was ready to wrap up and return for interrogation; the three dead Mystic Doctors would be taken away as well, hopefully yielding some clues.

”Take them to a safe place,” Luo Xudong said to two soldiers.

The two soldiers straightened up and responded with a ’Yes.’

Beisitian looked at Luo Xudong, who gave her a slight nod. Both of them tacitly chose not to say more.

Tian Zhi had already recovered and no longer needed Wei Zhongxun’s support, but it was his first time seeing dead bodies, especially these four who died right in front of him.

It was different from dying of illness; their lives were abruptly ended by someone, and it was his cousin-in-law who ended them!

Previously, Tian Zhi’s biggest impression of his cousin-in-law was that he looked good and had the sharpness of a soldier. Today, he truly saw Luo Xudong’s cold and ruthless, icy and merciless side, and now he was full of awe for his cousin-in-law!

Beisitian and the other two got into a military jeep. One soldier drove, and another sat in the front passenger seat, taking the three of them to a safe place.

Wei Zhongxun understood that Luo Xudong didn’t leave him behind for interrogation, which meant it wasn’t his mission. He was only there to rescue his wife, and in doing so, he had saved them too. Thus, he was relieved and didn’t have to worry about Luo Xudong interrogating him.

Tian Zhi was sent back to the school leaders, while Wei Zhongxun and Beisitian were sent back to the military, and they both returned to their dormitories separately.

The school leaders all breathed a sigh of relief seeing Tian Zhi return unharmed; they had been scared to death!

On the way, Tian Zhi had come up with an excuse, only saying that because of the Tian Family, he was kidnapped and the culprits demanded ransom. They just hadn’t made contact with the Tian Family in time, and eventually, his cousin-in-law rescued him. That was all there was to it.

The leaders didn’t doubt him either. The Tian Family was currently at the peak of power and could indeed attract unwanted attention.

Tian Zhi made an excuse that his cousin-in-law still had things to ask him, so he wanted to stay a few more days in Anding City and speak to his cousin. He didn’t want to return to school right away.

However, having just been kidnapped, the Tian Family probably didn’t know yet, and the school leaders didn’t dare leave Tian Zhi there alone, insisting on sending the other students back first and leaving two leaders to wait for Tian Zhi.

Tian Zhi had no choice but to let them wait.

The next day, he went to the military base. Last night, frightened, he hadn’t been able to sleep at all; closing his eyes only made him see the image of those four people dying, scaring him so much that he, a grown man, kept the light on all night.

In reality, Tian Zhi wasn’t weak; he just looked delicate, which made him seem a bit frail. After all, he was a nearly twenty-year-old young man, standing at 1.8 meters tall and not lacking strength—just without much muscle, at most.

He didn’t want to be looked down upon, so he hid his fears from everyone.

Arriving at the military residence, Beisitian had taken half a day off today and didn’t go to the medical team.

”I knew you would come find me,” Beisitian said with a smile.

Tian Zhi understood, no wonder she took the day off.

”Cousin, weren’t you afraid?” Tian Zhi asked. She wasn’t much older than him, so how could she not be afraid? Yet looking at her, she genuinely seemed unafraid!

”What’s there to be afraid of?” Beisitian laughed, ”In my past life, I’ve seen it all, so things like this aren’t a big deal, nor are they life-threatening.”

Tian Zhi pursed his lips and then said, ”Indeed, there’s nothing scary about it.” Well, as a man, he couldn’t lose face in front of his cousin.

”If you have questions, just ask,” Beisitian knew his purpose for coming today, but she wanted him to bring it up himself.

Sure enough, Tian Zhi asked, ”Cousin, was that talisman making yesterday?”

”Yes.”

”I’ve never seen talisman making like that...” Tian Zhi stopped mid-sentence. It wasn’t that he hadn’t seen talisman making like that, but he had never seen talisman making at all.

Beisitian always talked about talisman making, so he mistook talisman making for medicine making; he wanted to say he had never seen medicine making like that.

Beisitian smiled slightly, asking, ”Any thoughts?”

Tian Zhi pursed his lips, looking at Beisitian with some dilemma, and after a long time, he said, ”Cousin, can I still ask you to be my mentor now?”

His expression was somewhat eager yet very earnest; he genuinely wanted Beisitian to be his mentor. He wanted to learn the methods of talisman making; he wanted to become a Mystic Doctor!

Beisitian looked at him, and Tian Zhi looked at Beisitian. Seeing her not speaking, hope in his heart sank little by little. Indeed, when his cousin initially wanted to take him as a disciple, he refused. Now it was only natural for her to reject him.

”It’s possible,” Beisitian said.

Tian Zhi immediately felt a burst of joy, and his previously sunken heart floated back up. He soon heard Beisitian add, ”However, for now, you’ll be a named disciple. Later, it will depend on your performance. Named disciples don’t count as part of my inner circle. If your character is found wanting, I will make you forget everything I’ve taught you and expel you from the sect. So, remember!”

Tian Zhi nodded quickly. He still didn’t fully understand the difference between a disciple and a named disciple, but since Beisitian agreed, it meant she had given him a chance, and all he needed to do was seize it!

Beisitian had her own considerations as well. Tian Zhi had already seen her Spiritual Talisman technique and was initially planning to take him as her disciple; this just sped up the process. If she found him lacking in character in the future, she genuinely would do as she said. She would never pass her skills to someone unworthy.

As for Wei Zhongxun, Beisitian was also pondering this matter. At the time, she let Wei Zhongxun witness it out of necessity; she still didn’t know if he was trustworthy. Thinking back now, it was a bit worrisome.

But what eased Beisitian’s mind a bit was that Wei Zhongxun had helped rescue Tian Zhi; otherwise, if they had moved him, there would be nowhere to find him.

It could be said that their rescue was extremely timely, and this was something to be grateful to Wei Zhongxun for. Moreover, at the time, Wei Zhongxun risked exposing the Wei Family to buy them time, which involved enormous risk—something Beisitian understood well.

If seen from this angle, perhaps he wasn’t a bad person after all.
