Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 443: Chapter 264: Qing Zhu’s Thoughts

Light green walls, and around the walls hangs a row of beige thick hemp ropes holding long rattan chairs. The hall features some irregularly placed silver-gray tables and crescent-shaped seats, and in the center, there is an army green glass bar counter, with two big characters—Military Garden—embellished on the wall behind the counter.

Liang Xiaorao complained that the station was nothing but tents, and then Ye Qingzhu mysteriously told everyone about a nice place at the recreation center and asked if they wanted to go.

Upon hearing this, everyone agreed to go; they just hadn’t expected such a romantically themed café.

”Who would have thought such a place could exist in the station?” Luo Ye asked curiously once seated.

”It’s the masterpiece of Director Lei, who is now Vice Army Commander Lei. Surprising, right?”

”Ah?” Everyone was stunned. The forthright and upright Vice Army Commander Lei seemed difficult to connect with such a petit bourgeois spot.

”There are many non-local soldiers in the station. When their girlfriends visit, staying in the guest house might provoke gossip, so they can only stroll the sports field. It’s fine when the weather is good, but when it storms or snows, they’re at a loss.”

”Considering it from a humane perspective, Director Lei proposed building this little café, allowing entry only to female soldiers and male soldiers with visiting family members.

For this, several leaders even slammed the table, but Vice Army Commander Lei was very persistent. Subsequently, it proved that his decision was right; having such a place actually stabilised the troops’ morale.

After all, soldiers are ordinary people too, having all normal human emotions. Suppressing them deliberately isn’t always the best strategy; a more relaxed approach often works better.”

”Sounds like something Director Lei would do.” Luo Ye looked around and added, ”However, this place definitely wasn’t his design.”

”It’s his artistic wife’s masterpiece. Apparently, Director Lei disagreed at first, but eventually, his wife convinced him. By the way, Ye’er mentioned ’Director Lei’s style,’ are you familiar with Director Lei?” suddenly realizing, ”Did my brother tell you about him?”

”Ah... Haha..., let’s see what good drinks they have.” Luo Ye laughed it off and pretended to study the menu.

Ye Qingzhu didn’t press further, but smiled and suggested, ”The drinks here are not bad, see what you’d like, I’ll treat today.”

”How can we let Instructor pay?” Li Xiaobei looked uncomfortable.

”I’ll have a pearl milk tea.” Luo Ye passed the menu to the three opposite: ”This is a low-cost place, for Instructor Ye, it’s just plucking a hair from an elephant, why be polite?”

”Yes, don’t be shy...” Ye Qingzhu suddenly stopped and slapped Luo Ye on the hand, ”What are you saying?”

”It’s a metaphor, just a metaphor...”

”...”

...

”Sister Qingzhu, is there something you want to talk about?” Luo Ye turned serious, putting aside his playful demeanor.

After the drinks were served, Ji Sisi, Liang Xiaorao, and Li Xiaobei tactfully moved to the rattan chairs by the wall, leaving only Luo Ye and Ye Qingzhu at the table.

There were only a few people scattered around in Military Garden, and their table was tucked away in a corner at the back; they didn’t need to worry about eavesdroppers.

”It’s... nothing much, just haven’t seen you for a long time, I missed you.” Ye Qingzhu reached out and pinched Luo Ye’s cheek: ”Look how thin you’ve gotten, just a palm-sized face now.”

”Sister Qingzhu has also lost weight.” Luo Ye leaned back and smiled, ”You must have something you want to ask me; I can tell by your expression, just say it.”

Ye Qingzhu thought for a moment, then asked, ”After I left, Hang Menglin took over as instructor, she hasn’t given you a hard time, has she?”

”I haven’t really dealt with her for long; I can keep up during training, she doesn’t have a chance to trouble me, don’t worry.”

”That’s good... I’ve always been worried that she might go too far with you...” Ye Qingzhu hesitated for a moment: ”Do you know, after I left... has anyone come looking for me?”

”Whom do you mean?” Mou Ye didn’t quite understand the situation immediately.

”Uh... nothing much, I left in such a rush, didn’t have a chance to notify my friends, just wanted to ask who came looking for me, so I can return their message, in case they had something urgent.”

Suddenly recalling Zhong Yi’s entrusted task, Luo Ye quickly said, ”Someone really did come looking for you, Dr. Zhong, you remember him, right?”

”Remember, he’s Mommy Miaomiao’s primary doctor, when did he come looking for me?” Joy flickered in Ye Qingzhu’s eyes.

”Probably just a few days after Sister Qingzhu left.”

”How did Ye’er know about it?”

”There was a holiday just before our training camp started, I, Xing Nong, Yaoguang, and Miaomiao had made plans to visit her mom. Turns out her aunt got injured and was hospitalized again, and her primary doctor happened to be Dr. Zhong.” Luo Ye wrinkled his brows, thinking for a while, then apologetically smiled, ”He left a telefon number for Sister Qingzhu, I didn’t remember it off the top of my head, I’ll get it from my bag and give it to you later.”
