Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 440: Chapter 262: Waiting

”This crappy body of mine just can’t handle the stress!” Liang Xiaorao sat outside the tent, idly drawing circles and occasionally hitting herself. Feng Tianzhi’s announcement of the students’ feat of valor had already been made to everyone, leaving her furious at herself.

Suddenly looking up, she saw Luo Ye and his group approaching and excitedly shouted: ”Wow, they’re back!” She stood up but before she could take a step forward, a shadow flashed before her eyes, frightening her into quickly stepping back and losing her balance, landing on her butt. Looking up, she saw Master Feng greeting the students: ”Lieutenant Colonel Ye, personally escorting our heroes back, thank you! Thank you!”

”Lieutenant Colonel Feng, you’re too kind.” Ye Mo smiled mischievously: ”I’m a bit overwhelmed by your enthusiasm. Liang Xiaorao, are you okay?”

Having been helped up by Luo Ye and Ji Sisi, Liang Xiaorao quietly rubbed her butt: ”Instructor Ye, I’m fine, I’m fine. I can take a fall.”

Feng Tianzhi coughed lightly: ”As soldiers, a bit of tumbling and getting up is a good thing.”

”Alright, handover’s complete, I’m heading back.” Ye Mo waved and turned to stride away.

Feng Tianzhi’s gaze swept over everyone’s faces, beaming with joy: ”Let’s go, let’s go, back to the tents to rest.”

”Commander Feng, does this mean... our Blue Army won?” Jing Feng’s doubt grew amidst Feng Tianzhi’s evident delight.

Feng Tianzhi laughed heartily: ”Although the Blue Army didn’t win, your performance is truly worth celebrating. I feel that it’s a glorious defeat.”

Jing Feng’s face fell as he shrank back. On that day, after hijacking the vehicle en route to the A Division Headquarters, he, Luo Ye, and others got off early and split into two groups with Liu Xing and Yan Han.

But as soon as they reached the back hill, he stepped on a landmine—smoke billowed up, and according to the exercise rules, unless carried away, the ”body” must be left behind. Naturally, it was impossible to carry him away so early in the operation.

Later, Jing Feng, who had waited there, was taken back to the A Army POW camp and only just met up with Luo Ye and the others on his way to the B Division.

”Jing Feng, your performance was very good, especially during the river crossing, which was indispensable,” Feng Tianzhi said with a smile, patting Jing Feng’s shoulder. ”If it wasn’t for your body-checking the mine and raising alertness, they wouldn’t have been able to sneak in safely, right?”

”Commander, I didn’t mean to check for mines, I just stepped improperly,” Jing Feng said with a conflicted look.

Liu Xing playfully punched Jing Feng: ”Old Jing, I like your attitude.”

”Our heroes have returned? Welcome, welcome!”

”All well done!”

”Indeed, absolutely well done! How about joining our division after graduation?”

”... ”

Just at the entrance of the tent, several B Division company, battalion, and brigade commanders came out to greet them en masse. Feng Tianzhi waved to the people: ”Alright, go busy yourself with whatever you need to, don’t mess around here, this place has been requisitioned by me.”

”Commander, you must help us recruit talent!”

”Commander, we’re counting on you!”

”Commander, we’re awaiting the good news!”

”...”

Feng Tianzhi kicked a nearby captain: ”Enough, enough, what commander, I’m just temporary, get going!”

”Take a seat, I’ll brew some tea for you.” Feng Tianzhi busied himself getting everyone seated and personally brewed a pot of Tie Guan Yin: ”This is the good tea I’ve stolen from my old man, I wouldn’t bear to share it with anyone else, but it’s a different story for you guys.”

”Thank you, Commander Feng.”

”You’ve fought such a splendid battle and brought honor to our division, so, in place of wine, let’s all drink up!” Feng Tianzhi lifted his cup and downed the tea.

Liang Xiaorao smacked her lips: ”This tea is really good, it has a slightly sweet taste, not like the bitter tea my dad makes that you can’t even pull your tongue through.”

”Commander, let me do it.” Ji Sisi took the teapot, pouring tea for everyone while asking: ”Xiao Ruo, what tea does your dad drink?”

”He likes to mix Kuding tea with jasmine tea!”

”What kind of mix is that? No wonder it’s so bitter.”

”Everybody quiet down, let me say a few words.” Feng Tianzhi looked around solemnly: ”Although I haven’t been with you all for too long, I’ve enjoyed it immensely.

Each of your characters, habits, and skills are embedded in my mind. The results of the exercises have been reported, with the list of those selected for A Team to be announced at tomorrow’s commendation ceremony.

I firmly believe that some of you will be chosen, and I would like to congratulate you in advance. However, where there are those selected, there are also those who are not. I would like to extend an early invitation to any student who is not chosen and is willing, to give me a response within a week. Upon graduation, I will apply to transfer you to my unit.

There are not many people that I, Feng Tianzhi, acknowledge. I truly like you all and hope to become comrades-in-arms fighting side by side!”

”Thank you, Commander Feng for your great kindness!”

”Thank you, Commander!”

”Thank you, Commander!”
