Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 439: Chapter 261: The Unexpected

On the winding road, a long convoy of military vehicles slowly passed by, and locals who got the news all ran to the roadside to watch the excitement.

At Lu Jian’s house in Ba’er Village.

Lu Songlin hurried home, and Lu’s wife quickly greeted him: ”What happened, husband?”

”I heard from Uncle that the military vehicles are coming. His nephew from the neighboring village called him to watch the fun. I was thinking, aren’t we still holding two people? Should we send them over?”

Lu’s wife became anxious as well: ”Xiao Jian didn’t say when to release these two people, what should we do now? If we send them off by mistake, our son could be in trouble.”

”Uncle! Third Aunt!” An urgent shouting voice came from outside the door.

”Ah, Da Ming, what’s the matter?” Lu Songping hurriedly responded.

”The army is about to pass by, let’s go see the excitement together.”

”I’ll go in a bit, I’ll go in a bit!” Lu Songping looked at Lu’s wife helplessly: ”What should we do? What should we do?”

Hearing Da Ming’s shouting, Instructor Liang hammered on the west wing door loudly: ”Uncle Lu, Aunt Lu, please open the door for us, the exercise is over, the two of you can let us go now...”

”What to do, what to do...” Lu Songlin became even more anxious, going round in circles in the room like a donkey turning a millstone.

Lu’s wife pondered for a while: ”Husband, didn’t the kids say when they left that they would call us when we can release the people? We haven’t received a call, so I guess we’re not supposed to let them go yet?”

”Right! Right! We can’t let Da Ming go out. If he does, how can we answer the call?” Lu Songping hurried out.

”Uncle Lu, please open the door quickly...”

”Liberation army comrades, I haven’t received a call yet, please wait a bit longer.” Lu Songping said and ran out the front gate, shouting at Da Ming and his wife who were walking away: ”Da Ming, come back, Da Ming, come back quickly...”

...

Upon approaching Ba’er Village, Luo Ye suddenly slapped his forehead: ”Instructor Liang!” Then he urgently knocked on the rear window of the vehicle, signaling to stop.

”Right, how could we have forgotten them?” Lu Jian hurriedly searched everywhere for the piece of paper with the phone number.

The others exchanged glances and laughed; these past few days, they were so consumed by the joy that they completely forgot about this matter!

Yu Na rolled her eyes: ”You guys are something else!”

Ye Mo instructed the driver to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road, gestured for the rest of the convoy to keep moving forward, and came to the rear of the vehicle: ”What’s happening?”

With an embarrassed expression, Luo Ye reported: ”Vice Division Commander Ye, Instructor Liang and his comrade are still at Lu Jian’s house.”

”Instructor Liang and his comrade?” Ye Mo was momentarily stunned.

”It’s like this...” Luo Ye quickly recounted the whole story.

Ye Mo, with a look of utter disbelief, turned to Lu Jian: ”What’s the phone number?”

”Searching... I can’t find it, I probably lost it during the operation.”

”Lucky you weren’t with the old soldiers, or they might have torn you apart?” Ye Mo muttered and then returned to the driver’s seat: ”Take the next left into Ba’er Village.”

...

”Vice Division Commander Ye!”

”Xiao Jian!”

When Ye Mo led a few people to Lu Jian’s house, Mr. Lu, Lu’s Mother, Da Ming, Brother Da Ming’s wife and the two Instructors were at a standoff. Seeing a familiar figure, both parties simultaneously burst into surprise.

”Dad, hurry up and open the door,” Lu Jian shouted.

”Alright!” Lu Songlin responded as he went to fetch the keys to open the door.

Luo Ye brought Ji Sisi and Li Xiaobei over to Lu’s Mother with a big smile and asked, ”Auntie, do you still recognize us?”

Lu’s Mother looked them over: ”Are you the ones who came to change clothes the other day?”

”Right, I want to thank Aunt Xiang again. Without her, we might have fallen ill and failed the mission.”

”No need, no need!” Lu’s Mother repeatedly waved her hands, eyes firmly fixed on Li Xiaobei’s face, affectionately catching her: ”My girl, you’re really quite beautiful.”

Luo Ye and Ji Sisi exchanged a glance, the corners of their mouths curling up; that look clearly meant the mother-in-law had taken a liking to the daughter-in-law!

Mr. Lu rushed out anxiously: ”This is bad, I can’t find the key!”

”Uncle, where did you put it that you can’t find it now?” Ye Mo, who was in conversation with Instructor Liang, had a face full of black lines. Like father, like son.

Lu Songlin grinned sheepishly: ”I hid the key behind the stove to prevent any mishaps, I think a rat must have dragged it away, there’s been a lot of them around the house recently.”

Everyone had a face full of black lines...

Ye Mo sighed helplessly: ”Give me a thin piece of wire.”

”The liberation army sure is capable. Son, keep up the good work, mom and dad support you.” Lu’s Mother hugged her son, continuously mumbling.

Lu Jian whispered, ”Mom, why did we lock up Instructor Liang? Didn’t we agree to let them stay at our house for a few days, and we would let them go when it was time? Should I call Brother Da Ming’s home to tell you and dad?”

”Uncle came to visit and learned about this, and told me and your father that we should lock them up. If they escape, you guys would fail the mission, so your father and I thought...”

...

After a bit of a hassle and leaving the Lu Family, Division A’s vehicles had already driven far away, and Ye Mo’s vehicle had no choice but to be towed at the end of Division B’s line.

”Instructor Liang, don’t keep glaring at us, we really didn’t mean it.” Lu Jian, feeling guilty under Instructor Liang’s glare, quickly pleaded for mercy.

Luo Ye nudged Liu Xing and asked softly, ”Right, after you were captured, did they not interrogate you and Instructor Liang about where you had been taken?”

Liu Xing whispered: ”They did, but we tricked them.”

”How did you trick them?” Ji Sisi also leaned in curiously with interest.

Liu Xing chuckled, ”Hehe”: ”We told them that Instructor Liang and Instructor Li were captured by Feng Commander’s men. At the time, we just felt that we couldn’t reveal the truth so easily, but after we saw you guys and were so happy, we forgot all about it!”

Instructor Liang said angrily, ”If you fall into my hands, don’t even mention it. You’ll definitely experience what it’s like to eat, sleep, and use the restroom all in the same room.”

”I’m so sorry, so sorry.” Li Xiaobei repeatedly apologized: ”We lack experience, please be more forgiving.”

Ji Sisi teased: ”Little Bei, the way Lu Jian’s mom looked at you, she clearly wanted to rope you into their family, so you apologizing is most appropriate.”

”Stop it!” Li Xiaobei, with a flushed face, pounced on Ji Sisi: ”I’ll tickle you to death!”

...

The director of this exercise was stationed not far from GF, in Division A’s base in Sha City, which covered several hundred acres and was divided into training, office, reception, and family areas.

After the vehicles entered the base and coordinated with Division A’s convoy, Ye Mo took Luo Ye and others to Division B’s tent area in Division B army, to hand over the prisoners.

As they arrived at the Division B area, Ye Mo quietly reminded Luo Ye, ”Ye’er, don’t forget the thing you promised me.”

”The thing I promised you?” Luo Ye responded with a slight start before smiling, ”Don’t worry, I always keep my word, and I like Aunt Xiang as well.”

Nu’an sent the third update yesterday but got delayed due to some issues, hehe.

There are two more updates today, and Nu’an will try to get them out as soon as possible and also try to set a more regular update schedule in the coming days. It’s hard work for me, and probably hard for everyone to keep up as well.
