Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 430: Chapter 254: Feng Tianzhi’s Calculations

In the following days, Feng Tianzhi spent every day immersed with the trainees, participating in every subject alongside them, while the training of B Division was planned by him and specifically overseen by the Political Commissar and the Deputy Division Commander. His way of doing things truly matched his nickname—Madman.

What troubled Luo Ye the most was Feng Tianzhi’s undisguised interest in her, which was noticed not only by the trainees but also by the soldiers of B Division.

She had warned him more than once, but he remained willful, being stern with her during training and showing extra care after, nonchalant about her lack of response, consistently inquiring about her well-being, much to the envy of the female trainees.

As a result, Liang Xiaorao and Sang Cao both advised Luo Ye to seriously consider the matter, while Ji Sisi’s glances frequently lingered on Feng Tianzhi, even bitterly saying that if a man treated her that well, she would have been moved and pledged herself to him long ago, rather than acting so cluelessly.

Luo Ye couldn’t explain the specifics and could only respond with a wry smile. As for reporting the matter, what would be the reason? Feng Tianzhi’s behavior wasn’t overtly inappropriate, it was just an unclear situation...

One day, Liu Xing, who knew part of the truth, couldn’t stand it any longer and went to talk to Feng Tianzhi, only to be utterly refuted and retreated in defeat with a dejected expression.

Afterward, he confided in Luo Ye, saying that the other party was too eloquent. At that moment, he even felt like he was the nosy one with twisted thoughts... After reflecting, it sent shivers down his spine. With such slick talking, who could escape?

Liu Xing’s dilemma caused Luo Ye to facepalm. Was she really that easy to deceive?

...

The training at the Blue Army Base was not any more relaxed than the centralized training, but with the foundation laid earlier and the anticipation of being finally selected, everyone’s performance was still quite good.

Feng Tianzhi was an instructor who did not skimp on words of praise, which surprised the trainees who were accustomed to criticism, and made them train even harder.

As time slipped by day by day, the date of the military exercise was drawing closer, and a tense atmosphere pervaded everywhere in the camp.

After training that day, Feng Tianzhi, uncharacteristically serious, said, ”Everyone has been training at the B Division base for thirteen days. After tomorrow, we will formally enter the exercise phase.

That will be a whole new journey, and whether you can present a perfect answer sheet for the training in this period, and whether you can add a brilliant stroke for yourselves, will soon be revealed.

After dinner, Luo Ye, come to my office. There are some things we need to discuss in detail before making decisions. Dismissed.”

”Report!”

”Fall out!”

Yan Han stepped forward: ”Report to Commander Feng, during the exercise, every member of the trainee team is both a comrade and a competitor. Is it fair that you only ask Luo Ye to discuss matters?”

Before Feng Tianzhi could respond, Luo Ye shouted, ”Report!”

”Fall out!”

”Report to Commander Feng, I agree with Yan Han’s opinion, it would be fairer for everyone to discuss together.”

”How to handle matters does not need your instruction. Fair? What is fair? In my view, discussing this matter with Luo Ye is the fairest. Obeying orders is the duty of a soldier. Dismissed!” Feng Tianzhi finished speaking and left without looking back.

Yan Han stomped the ground in frustration: ”After the training is over, I’ll definitely report this. He’s taking us way too lightly!”

Ji Sisi chuckled: ”Aren’t you taking yourself too seriously? Can’t you see what Commander Feng feels for Luo Ye?”

Li Xiaobei glanced at Luo Ye’s expression and said, ”But in training, Commander Feng never favors Luo Ye, his demands on her are higher than on any of us. I think it’s normal to ask Luo Ye for her opinion, she is the squad leader after all.”

Sang Cao agreed: ”I support Xiaobei’s view.”

”I have no objections to discussing matters with Luo Ye during the training process, but this is the final exercise that affects each of our fates—how can he do this?” Yan Han still looked unconvinced and then turned to Luo Ye, ”Luo Ye, I’m not targeting you, I just don’t like his way of doing things, you understand, right?”

”I understand.” Luo Ye offered a faint smile and turned to leave. She originally wanted to explain a bit, but after some thought, she found it meaningless. The truth could not be shared, so let it be. If one stands upright, there is no need to fear a crooked shadow.

...

After dinner, Luo Ye went to Feng Tianzhi’s tent. Seeing that Li Ping had not yet arrived, she turned to leave: ”I’ll go and call Staff Officer Li.”

”No need!” Feng Tianzhi hurriedly called out to her, ”Li Ping and I have already discussed this matter; we just need to hear your opinion.” He pointed to the chair opposite him: ”Sit down and we’ll talk.”

”Please speak!” Luo Ye’s attitude was much better than before; after many interactions with Feng Tianzhi, her impression of him had also improved, so she no longer confronted him as before.

”Luo Ye...” Feng Tianzhi’s expression was more serious than ever, ”This matter must be discussed with you. If you are unwilling, I won’t force you.”

”Stop beating around the bush, just tell me.”

”I hope that the cadets, acting as the Blue Army B Division’s assault team and led by you, can infiltrate the Red Team’s missile base and destroy as much as possible. As long as you take on this mission, regardless of success or failure, you’ll receive a positive evaluation!”

”Isn’t the missile base Ye Xuan’s turf?”

”That’s right, will you take the challenge or not?”

”This isn’t about whether I dare to or not, I can only say that you really will stoop to any low.” Luo Ye glanced sideways at the other person: ”What if I don’t take it?”

”There won’t be any problem, we’ll give your score as usual. Like I said, the initiative is entirely yours. I’m being straightforward here, there are two reasons for this proposal.

First, if you hold enough sway in Ye Xuan’s eyes, you’ll definitely bring me unexpected results. Second, the cadets are capable and intelligent. It would be too wasteful not to use such a good team!”

”We still have to reach our destination for that, aren’t you afraid we’ll fail halfway? The Red Army’s defenses can’t possibly be paper-thin.”

”Victory and defeat are common in the military; besides, it’s not like we’re relying solely on your assault team. To be frank, I plan to use the cadet team as an ad-hoc assault team. A victory would be a pleasant surprise, a defeat would incur no loss.”

Luo Ye gave a thumbs-up: ”The designation ’fox’ really isn’t unwarranted. Knowing that I would decisively refuse to play dirty games with you, you came at me with this tactic. I’m convinced.”

Feng Tianzhi smiled: ”So, does that mean you’re accepting?”

”How could I not? As you said on the first day of the briefing, if I’m assigned to B Division, then I am part of B Division. My heart should be with B Division, and my actions should ensure consistency with B Division.

I’m not someone who can’t distinguish between public and private matters. Since I’ve joined the exercise, I must follow its rules. This is an opportunity for all cadets, and I have no right to stifle it.”

”I need to remind you, during this exercise, Ye Xuan and I are direct rivals. Whichever of us wins will become the Deputy Division Commander of A Division. Aren’t you afraid that by personally helping me win this chance, you’ll hurt Ye Xuan’s feelings?”

Luo Ye was at a loss for words: ”You think too highly of me, and you’re underestimating Brother Ye too much. But rest assured, having accepted this mission, I will definitely do my best. As for the outcome, I make no guarantees.”

”As long as you’re willing to take it...” Feng Tianzhi’s eyes deepened: ”At the very least, it shows that I’m not so unlikable in your eyes anymore. That’s the happiest thing for me.”

”If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.” Luo Ye stood up.

Feng Tianzhi’s deep gaze shifted towards Luo Ye: ”After tomorrow, it might become difficult for us to sit together like this again, stay with me a while longer.”

”I won’t stay!” Luo Ye curled her lips: ”Please don’t put on this melancholic prince act, it doesn’t work on me. Goodbye.”

”Luo Ye...” Feng Tianzhi took a quick step to block her path: ”Tell me the truth, do you like me even a little?”

”You...” Luo Ye stared at him speechlessly: ”Aren’t you a little too narcissistic?”

”Not at all.” Feng Tianzhi smiled: ”No worries, I’m very patient. At the very least, you’ve gone from hating me a lot to not hating me so much. That’s progress.”

Luo Ye made a helpless gesture: ”Sigh, you’re not that young anymore, don’t you think this kind of game is childish?”

”If I initially became interested in you because of Ye Xuan, now it’s true that I like you. So, it’s no longer a game, I’m serious.”

”Feng Commander, it seems you have lingered too long in the company of beauties, making such talk come all too easily to you, hehe...” Luo Ye laughed cunningly: ”For someone with your personality to have achieved so much, I must say, both your capabilities and luck are off the charts!”

”I’m glad you put capability first. As for lingering in the company of beauties, you’re really wronging me there. After all, I am a soldier, how could it be possible, right? I hope you’ll let go of your prejudices, earnestly get to know me, and give us both a chance, how about it?”

”Feng Tianzhi, whether you’re saying this because you’re trying to use me or you really mean it, there’s one thing you should know, and that’s how my aunt died.” Luo Ye stared solemnly at Feng Tianzhi: ”I don’t wish to be involved in the old generation’s grudges, but I still need to stick to principles.”

”That matter was a complete misunderstanding. My Feng Family was made a scapegoat for others. I will find evidence... And about Feng Qing’s issue, I will also give you an explanation when the time comes.” Feng Tianzhi stepped aside: ”You should rest early.”

Luo Ye nodded and left the tent, feeling very conflicted. If what Feng Tianzhi said was true, it meant that the true perpetrator behind her aunt’s death was still at large and not weak. Could she believe him?

”Luo Ye.” Ji Sisi’s figure emerged from the shadows.

”What’s the matter?” Luo Ye looked towards her.

”What did Feng Commander discuss with you? Can you tell me?”

”Sure, he’s assigned our cadet team as an ad-hoc assault team to infiltrate the Red Base.” It wasn’t a secret, so Luo Ye simply told her.
