Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 422: Chapter 249: Sorrow at the End

”Xiao Ruo, what’s wrong?”

Liang Xiaorao, who was sobbing her heart out on the bed, lifted her head and saw Luo Ye, choking back tears she said: ”Luoluo, the family I helped, they adopted a young girl, around fifteen or sixteen, she doesn’t do any chores, and she even flaunted her new clothes to me. I couldn’t stand it and said a few words, and she complained to the leadership, wuwu...”

”Ah!” Luo Ye sighed and gently patted Liang Xiaorao’s head. ”Did the chief instructor say he was going to punish you?”

”The chief instructor sent Instructor Liang to take my place, and he didn’t scold me, just told me to rest in the dorm. But the more I think about it, the more I feel wronged.” Liang Xiaorao rolled up her sleeve: ”Look at my arm, it’s swollen like a purple bun. Why are these civilians so unreasonable? Are their children the only ones that matter, and we’re not human?”

Luo Ye reflexively touched her own arm, ”Did the head of the household scold you?”

”Yes!” Liang Xiaorao pouted: ”They said I don’t resemble a member of the liberation army.”

”Stop crying, the chief instructor understands. Xiao Ruo, as a soldier, you must not only have an iron will but also withstand what others cannot. Since we chose this profession, we have to learn to endure.” As Luo Ye spoke, she went back to her place, took a medicine box from the bedside table, and waved Liang Xiaorao over: ”Come here, apply some medicine to your arm and the swelling will subside by tomorrow.”

”But I haven’t showered yet.” Liang Xiaorao said, looking embarrassed.

”Didn’t change your clothes either?”

”Um.”

”You really do have guts, just be careful not to scratch yourself to death in your sleep.”

”Ah? It can get itchy?” Liang Xiaorao got scared and began to pat herself with a handkerchief.

Luo Ye couldn’t stand it anymore and reminded her: ”Take the sheets off and shake them out well at the door.”

”Oh right, I really was being silly.” Liang Xiaorao yanked off the sheets and turned around, almost bumping into Xing Nong who was rushing in, scaring her to sit back on the bed with a thud, patting her chest: ”Xing Nong, you scared me to death!”

Xing Nong didn’t respond to Liang Xiaorao, but directly hugged Luo Ye and began wailing: ”Luoluo, my arm is swollen like a purple turnip, so pitiful.”

”Xiao Ruo has the purple bun, and you have the purple turnip...” While speaking, Luo Ye rolled up her own sleeve: ”Look at mine, they’re all pretty much the same.”

Xing Nong, touching Luo Ye’s swollen forearm, continued to wail: ”Poor Luoluo, why is yours so badly swollen? These farmers, this is even more tiring than training.”

Luo Ye pushed Xing Nong away: ”All right, stop your whining, I haven’t seen a single tear, get your things and go shower, apply the medicine, and it won’t be swollen tomorrow, and it will basically stop hurting after three days. As for getting back the skin color, it’ll take about a week or so. Here come the hard days!”

...

Hard days have truly come!

After helping with the farming, the training also went into high gear, the trainees were only getting about five hours of sleep per day, non-stop emergency assemblies, mountain cross-country, mud crawling, shooting, Sanda, tactics, lurking, topography... and so on.

Under such intensive training, many trainees got blisters on their hands and feet, and at night when they returned to the dormitory, their socks were stuck to their feet because of dried blood, peeling them off was agonizingly painful, and if not peeled, the consequences could be even more severe.

Thus, every night, the dormitory was full of screams. Luckily, with Luo Ye’s magic medicine and Zhan Hao’s medical skill, they suffered a bit less, and it also gave the medics a break.

After the farming assistance, Yan Han became more sociable than before, but his rivalry with Zhan Hao remained as intense as ever. During group training, however, he became very respectful of his comrades’ opinions, so his relationship with Luo Ye was still not bad.

Among the female trainees, Luo Ye, Yu Na, and Ji Sisi were close in overall performance. If anyone’s ranking dropped a little bit, she would strive desperately next time to catch up.

Therefore, in the latter part of the training, an atmosphere of positive and healthy competition pervaded the team, which Mo Datong was happy to see as competition was more conducive to achieving results!

In the blink of an eye, it was November, with temperatures already falling to the teens. After the busy fall harvest and planting, the idle villagers would often stand at the head of the village, gazing at the training of the trainee team from afar.

Because of the farming assistance, the villagers had different feelings towards this trainee team compared to others, naturally developing an additional layer of concern.

Familiar grandparents would often bring freshly cooked sweet potatoes and taro to the camp to warm the kids up, and every time Mo Datong resolutely refused, arguing for a long while, but ultimately had to accept.

That girl who had quarreled with Liang Xiaorao came one day, led by her parents, and apologized awkwardly.

All of this deeply made the trainees feel that as long as you give genuinely, there will be a return. The initial grievances and complaints gradually turned into passion and motivation. Compared to their arrival, everyone had undergone a significant transformation.
