Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 431: Chapter 255: The Beginning

”If you have anything you want to ask, go ahead.” Luo Ye stopped in her tracks, turning to look at Ji Sisi beside her, who seemed on the verge of speaking but hesitated.

”Luo Ye...” Ji Sisi mumbled unnaturally: ”I have something to ask... promise me you won’t get mad or laugh at me, okay?”

”Go on.” Luo Ye nodded.

”Do you really... not like Feng Commander?” Ji Sisi’s cheeks quickly flushed with a shy redness, fully displaying her girlish bashfulness.

Having already guessed the other party’s thoughts, a smirk formed on Luo Ye’s lips: ”So you were worrying about this outside? Rest assured, I have no interest in him.”

”I told you not to laugh at me...” Ji Sisi sighed in relief, affectionately linking arms with Luo Ye: ”I’m sorry, I’m straightforward and like to wear my emotions on my face, and I’m a bit competitive. Don’t be mad at me, okay?”

”Do I look mad to you?” Luo Ye asked playfully with a smile. ”To tell you the truth, you must have cursed me a lot behind my back these past days, haven’t you?”

”No...” Ji Sisi said with an embarrassed smile: ”From now on, competition is competition, but I promise, I won’t envy you blindly anymore. Can we still be friends?”

Luo Ye chuckled: ”That’ll depend on your behavior.”

”Luo Ye...” Ji Sisi hesitated slightly: ”The person you like is Night Chief Instructor, right?”

Luo Ye was slightly displeased: ”Do you still not trust me?”

”It’s not that, I am... I’m worried for you.” Ji Sisi hurriedly explained.

”Worried about what?” Luo Ye asked in confusion.

”Worried about Yu Na...” Ji Sisi’s expression became grave: ”Luo Ye, I’ve suffered at her hands; you must not underestimate her.”

”Don’t worry, I won’t underestimate her.” Luo Ye smoothly changed the subject: ”Yu Na is a local, and you’re from Beijing. How come you two became classmates?”

”Haven’t I told you already? I suffered because of her.” Ji Sisi motioned towards an empty space on the sports field: ”Let’s go sit there for a bit.”

After the two sat down, Ji Sisi continued: ”Sha City is home to our family’s martial arts school, run by my parents. In the third grade, I transferred from a primary school in Beijing to Sha City No.1 Primary School, and from junior high on, I became classmates with Yu Na.

On the advancement board, I was first and Yu Na was second. Since the start of school, both teachers and students liked to compare us.

Both of us had competitive natures, naturally neither of us accepted defeat easily, trying our hardest to outdo the other, even if we didn’t perform well, just getting higher scores would make us extremely happy.

From the first year of junior high to the first semester of senior high, our batch’s top students always alternated between her and me. In the second semester of senior one, a new transfer student, Qi Jie, joined our class.

Qi Jie’s arrival attracted the attention of all the girls. He was handsome, talented, and a good student. In his first test, he secured the top position in class.

From then on, Yu Na and I could only alternate between second and third place. At first, I wasn’t willing to accept it and wanted to surpass him.

Coincidentally, his dad and my dad were friends. After a meal together arranged by our parents, I got closer to him. Gradually, I realized that I was indeed different from him.

I don’t know when it started, but I fell for him, my mind filled with thoughts of him, eagerly awaiting the next day to see him quickly.

One day, Yu Na approached me, talking a lot. The main idea was that our old competition was rather meaningless. College entrance exams depend on scores, not on people. We should unite to compete against students from other schools, and she proposed to form a study group with her, me, Qi Jie, and the second-ranked student of her class to learn from each other.

After discussing it with Qi Jie, we agreed, and from then on, apart from class time, all four of us studied together. As for my feelings for Qi Jie, even a blind person could see them.

In the second semester of senior year, during Qi Jie’s birthday, a group of classmates celebrated for him. Throughout the party, I acted as the hostess entertaining everyone.

At the end of the party, Yu Na soulfully sang ’Ming Ming Bai Bai Wo De Xin’ and proceeded to link arms with Qi Jie, openly clarifying their relationship to everyone.

At that moment, I was completely stunned. The looks of surprise, sympathy, and pity from my classmates... all along, it had been taken for granted that Qi Jie and I were a couple, I even thought so myself.

Thinking about my behavior during the party, it was clear I was announcing to everyone that I was deluding myself! Accidentally raising my head, I saw Yu Na’s gaze full of triumph.

In an instant, I understood that everything was her design. Foolishly, I believed her and ended up being the laughingstock. If I have to blame anyone, it would be my own foolishness.

In the days that followed, she and Qi Jie stopped studying with the rest of us. You can guess what happened next, the pressure of public opinion forced me to leave that school. Luo Ye, I really hope she doesn’t succeed again.”

Luo Ye reassuringly patted Ji Sisi, ambiguously saying: ”It’s different, don’t worry.”

”That’s true, Qi Jie and Instructor Ye can’t be compared. Now that I think about it, my feelings for Qi Jie were just an adolescent crush, yet at the time, it felt like the sky was falling. How pathetic.”

Luo Ye teased: ”In that case, are you sure that this time it’s not just an adolescent crush for Feng Tianzhi?”

”It’s not!” After a pause, Ji Sisi added: ”I’m sure, it’s not!”

Luo Ye extended her hand: ”I wish you success then.”

”Thank you!” Ji Sisi grasped Luo Ye’s extended hand firmly, shyly smiling: ”I know the chances of success are slim, but I want to give it a try.”

”We’ll be parting ways soon, you need to seize the opportunity.”

”Don’t worry, I can always visit him during the holidays.”

”...”

...

The grand military exercise officially began!

On the highway, a convoy covered with camouflage nets, various combat vehicles, endlessly rolling by. In the sky, fighter jets crisscrossed among the clouds...

The tense atmosphere before the battle was suffocating.

Luo Ye led the trainee team and had already successfully breached the Red Army’s first defensive line. Going forward, it was a vast wasteland; everyone had to hunker down on the hillside, waiting for the night to fall.

Li Xiaobei nudged Luo Ye: ”Luoluo, the Red Army’s defense is really weak. We practically breezed through the first defensive line with our eyes closed. At this rate, we will definitely gain merit.”

Luo Ye laughed lightly: ”With assault teams on both the left and right flanks diverting attention, how could it not be easy?”

Sang Cao nodded in sudden understanding: ”That’s why Feng Commander was so confident to let us out. It turns out everything was arranged in advance.”

Liang Xiaorao was excited: ”Does this mean we can easily gain merit?”

”Rumble!”

As if to respond to Liang Xiaorao, a resonance came from the sky.

I’ve been really busy with a lot going on today; I apologize for the late update. Tomorrow is Saturday, and Nu’an will provide a triple update. (To be continued. If you wish to follow the story, please visit www.. More Chapters are available, support the author, support genuine reading!)
