Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 403: Chapter 237: Falling Out

Luo Ye held the knife and made gestures over the longevity cake, looking at Mo Datong: ”Mr. Mo, how big of a piece can you still eat?”

”Just a small one like this.” Mo Datong stretched out three fingers, measuring the width.

After Luo Ye cut it, he handed the piece to Mo Datong, then gestured with the knife again: ”Mr. Mo, I’m going to evenly divide the rest to let everyone have a taste, okay?”

Mo Datong nodded: ”Go ahead and divide it.”

Ye Xuan patted his empty hand: ”Ye’er, why didn’t you ask if I wanted any more?”

”You’re not the birthday boy. Mainly, including the instructors and logistics staff, there are over 40 people.” Luo Ye pointed at the longevity cake: ”You see, doesn’t each person only get a tiny bit?”

Mo Datong chuckled: ”Luo Ye, there’s no need to give any to the instructors and logistics. These tiny morsels won’t even fill the gaps between their teeth.”

”The gaps between their teeth can’t be that wide, right?” Xing Nong pouted: ”Besides, it’s symbolic, it’s not like we’re eating it as a meal.”

Ye Xuan patted Mo Datong sympathetically: ”It’s getting late, I should head back too.”

”Hold on a moment!” Luo Ye passed a plate of the cut longevity cake to Ye Xuan: ”Since Mr. Mo is the birthday man, it’s inconvenient for us to go to the instructors’ accommodations, so, Brother Ye, please do us a favor.”

Ye Xuan cheerfully took it: ”Okay, after I finish distributing the longevity cake for the birthday man, I’ll head straight out.” He put his arm around Mo Datong’s shoulder and reminded him: ”Datong, remember to call your uncle and aunt later.”

Mo Datong waved his hand dismissively: ”Go on, get out of here.”

Ye Xuan laughed, shook his head, waved to everyone and walked out.

Yu Na, who had been silent all along, quickly picked up a plate of longevity cake: ”Luo Ye, Xing Nong, we should hurry too, or everyone will be off to bed.” Then she looked at Mo Datong: ”Mr. Mo, rest early.”

Mo Datong nodded: ”You too.”

Just after leaving Mo Datong’s dorm, Yu Na suddenly clutched her belly: ”Luo Ye, Xing Nong, I need to go to the restroom, sorry to trouble you.” Saying so, she handed the plate in her hand to Xing Nong and ran toward the restroom.

”Seriously?” Xing Nong frowned: ”Luoluo, we didn’t put any laxatives in the longevity cake, did we?”

Luo Ye glared at Xing Nong: ”Just hold the plate steady, that piece on top is about to fall off, quickly use some chopsticks to tuck it in.”

Mumbling to herself, Xing Nong arranged the pieces and grumbled: ”I’m guessing Yu Na definitely went to intercept Handsome Ye, she’s got some thick skin.”

Luo Ye glanced at her: ”Why don’t you go too? Don’t worry, I can still manage two plates, and I’ll call others to help me divide them up in the dorm.”

”Why should I care so much when the person involved isn’t?” Xing Nong pouted: ”Heartless scoundrel!”

Luo Ye nudged Xing Nong with her elbow: ”That plate is for the boys’ dorm, go distribute it yourself, I’m heading to the girls’ dorm.”

Xing Nong pinched her nose with disgust: ”With a dozen people living in one room, I don’t have the guts to enter. I’ll call Zhan Hao out and pass it to him, that’ll do.”

”Not bad at all!” Luo Ye quickly slipped into the girls’ dorm.

”Disgusting!” Xing Nong stamped her foot, and before reaching the boys’ dorm, she started yelling: ”Zhan Hao! Zhan Hao! Hurry and come out!”

Wu Zetian came out to meet her: ”Xing Nong, Zhan Hao just went out, what do you need him for?”

Xing Nong handed the longevity cake to Wu Zetian: ”Today is Mr. Mo’s birthday, everyone gets a small piece, just make sure to wash the plate and return it to Mr. Mo.”

”Great, I was feeling a bit hungry, but this is really too small,” said Wu Zetian as he picked up a piece and gulped it down quickly.

Xing Nong glared at Wu Zetian: ”There’s just enough for one piece per person, don’t you dare sneak any extra!”

Wu Zetian stretched his neck: ”What’s the big deal? It’s just a sweet bun, as if I’m craving it.”

Xing Nong grinned mischievously: ”This was made by Luo Ye, hehe... I’ll tell her you said the longevity cake is just a sweet bun, nothing to crave!”

Wu Zetian quickly pleaded: ”Don’t... don’t... please..., my lady, isn’t it enough that I admit I’m wrong?”

”What’s going on?” Zhan Hao came over.

Xing Nong pointed to the plate: ”Zhan Hao, today is Mr. Mo’s birthday, everyone gets a small slice of longevity cake, Wu Zetian’s has already been eaten, by the way, did you just go to the restroom?”

Wu Zetian clicked his tongue disapprovingly: ”It’s not appropriate for a girl to ask a boy such questions, Xing Nong, aren’t you a bit too casual?”

”I didn’t ask you, quit the nonsense!” Xing Nong glared at Wu Zetian, looking at Zhan Hao: ”Answer my question.”

Zhan Hao nodded: ”Yes!”

”Did you see Yu Na?”

”No!” Zhan Hao shook his head.

”Alright, I got it. Hurry in and distribute the longevity cakes.” Xing Nong waved his hand and headed towards the restroom.

”Alright, I got it. Hurry in and distribute the longevity cakes... Okay, Brother, I’ll distribute them now.” Wu Zetian mimicked Xing Nong’s tone, reached out for the longevity cakes, and got smacked by Zhan Hao: ”One piece per person. Can’t you count?”

Wu Zetian: ”...”

”Instructor Ye.”

Just as Ye Xuan was about to open the car door, Yu Na sprang out from the shadow of a nearby car.

”What’s up?”

Yu Na straightened up: ”I will train hard!”

Ye Xuan waved his hand: ”You should discuss this with Mo Datong, training is no longer under my supervision.”

”Instructor Ye.” Yu Na hesitated: ”As you might know, Instructor Mo and Instructor Hang have had a long-standing feud, and it just so happens that I am a disciple of Instructor Hang. I’m genuinely worried that Instructor Mo might project his grudge against my master onto me.”

”Datong isn’t that kind of person.” Ye Xuan leaned against the car door, looking at Yu Na: ”If... I mean if you feel that Mo Datong is being unfair to you during training, you can report it. I’m neither Datong’s superior nor your leader. I have no say in this matter.”

”Instructor Ye, I’m not asking for you to intervene. So far, Instructor Mo has been fair to me. I’m telling you this because I trust you and hope that when it’s convenient for you, you can let Instructor Mo know that I will train diligently and follow his leadership without getting involved in his grudge against my master.”

Ye Xuan nodded: ”That’s no problem, but let me reiterate, Datong is a just and upright person; you don’t need to have any worries.”

Yu Na fidgeted with the corner of her clothes, ”Instructor Ye, I’d also like to ask for your advice on how to get along with my comrades. I set high standards for myself and consequently have higher expectations for others. Fundamentally, I am doing it for their good, but I find that they don’t appreciate my intentions. What should I do?”

”Drop the utilitarian mindset, and they will appreciate your intentions.”

”I’ll pay attention to that in the future, but...” Yu Na looked at Ye Xuan somewhat aggrievedly: ”I think a bit of utilitarian mindset isn’t a bad thing, is it? If there’s no utilitarian mindset at all, where would the motivation for progress come from?”

Ye Xuan nodded in agreement: ”A proper amount of utilitarian mindset indeed serves as motivation for progress, but have you grasped what ’proper’ means?

Yu Na, this kind of issue can’t be clarified in a few words. Moreover, different values and outlooks on life determine different standards of measurement. So, my perspective might not suit you. You’re a clever person, you should understand where the problem lies.”

Yu Na bowed politely: ”Thank you for your guidance. I will ponder what you’ve said and work on correcting my flaws soon. It’s getting late, so I won’t keep you any longer.”

Ye Xuan nodded and got into the car.

Yu Na took a step back, but then rushed to the car door: ”Instructor Ye, please don’t believe the rumors. I’m not as selfish as they say. I will do as you advised.”

Ye Xuan looked at her impassively for a moment, started the car, and quickly drove off.

”Clap! Clap! Clap...” Accompanied by clapping sounds, Ji Sisi emerged from beside another car. Yu Na glanced at her uneasily: ”What are you doing here? Eavesdropping is impolite, don’t you know?”

”If I weren’t here, how would I have witnessed such an interesting scene?” Ji Sisi leaned against the car with a scoffing expression: ”You really have improved, learning to lure men with such an indirect method.”

”I wasn’t luring anyone. Everything I said is true. The fact that I’m a disciple of Instructor Hang is known to everyone. From the trainees to the instructors, no one likes Instructor Hang, and so naturally, they don’t like me either. I’m just trying to make it a little easier for myself.”

”Really?” Ji Sisi raised her eyebrows: ”Rumors say that the Yu family maintains their honor through their daughter. It seems to be true!”

Yu Na glared at Ji Sisi: ”Didn’t we agree to stop the needless conflicts during the selection?”

”I have no intention to fight with you; I just don’t like the way you do things...” Ji Sisi’s expression turned serious: ”In the Ji family, we detest girls who use their looks to obtain things. Our mutual assistance ends here; I intend to earn my place fair and square.”

Yu Na’s lips curled into a smile: ”Do you also like Brother Ye?”

”Heh... Are you delusional?” Ji Sisi gazed at Yu Na: ”I happened to notice you sneaking over here, and out of curiosity, I followed.

Yu Na, you might deceive others, but not me. Your inherent possessiveness is acting up again. I must have been blind to agree to collaborate with you.”

”Ji Sisi, let me reiterate once more, Qi Jie’s lack of interest in you has nothing to do with me. Don’t always blame others for your own failures. I don’t deign to work with you!”

Ji Sisi laughed derisively: ”Yu Na, did I say anything about Qi Jie? If not guilty, why would you bring him up so defensively?”

”It was you who mentioned it first...”

The angrier the two got, the less they noticed a little figure not far from them shaking violently—certainly, it was beautiful.
