Martial Arts: I Have Diligence Reward System

Chapter 26: Chapter 20: Sacrificing Family for the Greater Good

After Xu Baiyan and Su Yue verified their identities, they boarded the shuttle bus to the prison with many others visiting inmates.

The maximum-security prison for sentences over 10 years, there’s only one in Renqing Province, located right at the border between Cengyan City and another city, basically in the middle of nowhere, so we can only take the government bus.

Bus ticket costs 800 yuan per person, with a tax fee of 150.

Nearly 1000 yuan per person, pretty expensive, and that’s one way, the return trip is another 1000 yuan.

The siblings spent 4000 yuan just on this round trip.

This transportation cost alone is already the monthly salary of an average person.

Xu Baiyan sat in the front row with an air of authority, with several prison officers on board greeting her with smiles, some even wanted to give her a discount on her ticket.

A student from Northern Martial, that’s not a joke.

Unlimited supply of snacks, drinks, mineral water, all for free.

Of course, Xu Baiyan directly refused the discount.

As a Northern Martial student, they must be grand.

As for what she thought in her mind, Su Yue didn’t know, after all, pretending to be humble comes with a price.

Actually, Su Yue was very jealous inside.

The whole bus admired Xu Baiyan as if looking at a goddess, who wouldn’t envy that?

Just wait, this time next year, I’m going to be a Northern Martial student too.

Su Yue was left at the corner, pitifully.

After a three-hour journey, they arrived at the big prison, Xu Baiyan leaving behind a full bag of sunflower seed shells, got off first.

Subsequently, under the guidance of the prison officers, Su Yue quickly completed the visiting procedures.

Thanks to Xu Baiyan’s privileged status, they shamelessly cut in line.

...

The prison walls were high, and the defenses were tight, with even firearms from the tech era.

History books record that the tech era officially ended in the 23rd century when governments globally destroyed all high-tech weapons, with only some basic firearms technology passing down, but very few in number.

As of today, hundreds of years later, many have almost forgotten about firearms.

This was the first time Su Yue saw firearms from afar, even in books, there are very few records of modern weapons.

”Uh, aren’t we going the wrong way, the prison area is in the east, why are we heading west?”

After passing through a few hallways, Su Yue frowned.

Xu Baiyan was also looking around.

This isn’t right, this is clearly the staff living area of the prison, getting further away from the main prison area.

”You’re not mistaken, Su Qingfeng is a special maximum-security prisoner, he’s not in the regular prison area!”

One of the officers said.

”Is my dad in a dungeon, covered in chains? You guys are too cruel.”

Su Yue’s eyelids twitched.

He instantly imagined a damp, foul dungeon, with a gaunt figure tied up in rusty iron chains, hanging in the air.

Could Dad have been tortured to the brink of death?

This... might be the last time he’d see him.

Xu Baiyan was also full of worries.

She thought her godfather was just in regular prison, who knew the situation could be even worse.

”According to visiting rules, you can only see one person at a time, who’s going in first?”

Before reaching the end of the hallway, the officer in front suddenly said.

”I-I’ll go first, I’m a guy, I can handle it.”

Su Yue lowered his head, his voice already hoarse.

”Let my brother go first.”

Xu Baiyan nodded.

”Alright, you head right into this place.”

The officer pointed forward.

Su Yue turned his head to look, the warden’s office area.

”This...”

Su Yue hastily ran inside, we’re visiting, and you’re still torturing my dad?

He pushed open the main door.

Su Yue froze at the entrance, his face like it was frozen solid.

Astonished.

Baffled.

Incredulous.

Inconceivable.

A mix of emotions showing such complexity it was hard to describe.

The room wasn’t very large.

There was a bed, a coffee table, an office desk, a TV, and an independent bathroom.

This was a standard official’s office.

A Kung Fu tea set was on the coffee table, shrouded in steam, a greasy middle-aged man was washing teacups.

Yes.

Definitely greasy.

A hearty grasslands song played in the room, with the middle-aged man washing teacups with one hand while playing with prayer beads in the other.

Silk pajamas, white socks, black cloth shoes, neatly combed hair slicked back.

A potbelly that stood out.

Su Yue licked his lips.

The greasy middle-aged man in front of him looked more and more like his suffering father.

”What are you doing standing there, come in!”

Su Qingfeng raised his head.

His son had grown taller and tanned a bit.

But he seemed a little silly, standing at the door not daring to come in, not sharp at all.

”No, Dad... you...”

Su Yue, stiff as a robot, walked in.

This doesn’t make sense.

Su Yue had imagined hundreds of images of his father, never expecting him to be this greasy, playing with beads on a sofa.

The prison officials aren’t even living as comfortably as you.

”A cup of top-notch canned tea for you.”

Su Qingfeng gestured for Su Yue to sit down.

”Dad, this doesn’t seem like being in prison at all.”

Su Yue finally came to his senses.

”I can’t leave this prison, isn’t that being in prison? Don’t curse me!”

Su Qingfeng sipped his tea, his expression very satisfied.

Su Yue felt a mix of emotions, really not knowing how to describe his feelings.

The gap was too big.

He thought his father was suffering, who knew he was the only one suffering.

”Have you met Xiong Taiguang?”

Su Qingfeng suddenly asked.

”Hmm!”

Su Yue nodded.

His standard of living was being squashed by his dad’s level.

No, this is what living should be like, Su Yue was merely surviving.

As for how Su Qingfeng could know external affairs, it was no surprise anymore.

”What’s your Qi Blood level?”

Su Qingfeng crossed his legs casually, without much ado.

His son looked a bit weathered, he probably faced some setbacks this year, but it’s normal.

A man should grow towards the sun under the scorching sun.

”6 cards!”

Su Yue answered nonchalantly.

”Restructure your words, I fear I might execute you myself for treachery.”

Su Qingfeng leisurely poured water into the teapot.

Su Yue’s attempts at hiding his level were actually quite clumsy.

”15 cards, exceeded the B-class admission line.”

Su Yue replied begrudgingly.

It’s always like this, can’t keep a little secret at all.

This 15-card accomplishment was Su Yue’s way to prove himself to his dad.

Every son wants their father’s approval, and Su Yue was no exception.

”Barely okay, still some difficulty in entering the Big Four.”

However, Su Qingfeng shook his head.

”Dad, I’m doing well enough.”

Su Yue grabbed the teacup and took a big gulp.

How infuriating.

”Well enough, my foot, just average level, but there’s still one more year.

”Hey, aren’t you right-handed, what happened to your right arm?”

Su Qingfeng suddenly asked.

”Injured.”

Su Yue said with a dark face.

Took him this long to notice, what a hands-on father, indeed.

”Did you train your arm? Now you’re grown up, it might be time to find a girlfriend.”

Su Qingfeng teased sarcastically.

In that moment, Su Yue wanted to storm out.

One year in prison, and he started picking up indecorous habits.

”Alright, enough teasing you!

”Though I’m living comfortably here, my status remains a prisoner, visiting time has to adhere to rules and protocols.

”Let’s cut to the chase, when you finish your college entrance exams, don’t go to Northern Martial, go to West Martial instead.”

Su Qingfeng suddenly got serious.

”West Martial?”

Su Yue looked confused.

Cengyan City is in the Northern Divine Continent, with Northern Martial located in the North; generally, students choose to attend their local alma mater.

Going to West Martial?

”After you get to West Martial, go to this nursing home, and take care of the lonely elderly.

”As Su Qingfeng’s son, you’ll certainly get into the Big Four, I trust my genes.”

Su Qingfeng handed a referral letter to Su Yue.

Xiyanghong Nursing Home.

”Dad, aren’t you curious how I reached 15 cards in Qi Blood?”

Su Yue carefully stored away the envelope and then asked.

”After roaming the world for so long, I’ve got some people to help you, nothing surprising, your sister came back, didn’t she?

”Besides, I know my genes, they’re excellent.

”By the way, how have Su Jianjun and the others been?”

Su Qingfeng asked again.

Su Yue felt numb in his heart.

My excellence is due to hard work, what does it have to do with your genes.

Whatever, it’s my own dad, why bother arguing.

Subsequently, Su Yue briefly narrated what happened over the past year.
