Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 389: Chapter 389: Who is the Person Behind?

Fang Haibing recalled the instructions he’d been given. ”That’s right,” he said. ”I happen to have some old scores to settle with them and have been looking for them.”

With that, he roared at the three men, ”Follow me to the police station and turn yourselves in! If you dare hide a single thing, I’ll break your legs!”

At this point, the men were too terrified to disobey. ”We’ll confess, we’ll definitely confess.”

Yunyi, however, stopped them and asked coldly, ”Why were you following me? Don’t tell me you just saw an opportunity to get rich. After all, you’ve been tailing me since I entered the department store, haven’t you?”

The men had intended to make up a story, but seeing the man scrutinizing them, they didn’t dare lie. ”I... We... Someone... Someone paid us... to follow you.”

Yunyi then looked at Fang Haibing. ”Since that’s the case, I’ll come along too.”

If someone was determined to cause trouble, she wasn’t afraid to face it.

She worried that if she didn’t go with them, their confessions might be suppressed even if they did talk.

Evidently, Fang Haibing didn’t want to reveal his involvement. ”Fine.”

Fang Haibing kicked the punk nearest to him. ”Get up and walk in front. If you dare try to run, don’t blame me for breaking your legs.”

The punk, grimacing in pain, asked indistinctly, ”Boss, I don’t remember us offending you. Are you sure you’ve got the right people?”

He shouldn’t have said anything. The moment the words left his mouth, Fang Haibing kicked him again. This time, the pain was so intense he couldn’t make a sound, his forehead covered in fine beads of sweat.

Witnessing this, the other two abandoned any thought of resisting.

They then heard Fang Haibing shout coldly at the three of them, ”You two, carry him and walk.”

Not daring to disobey, the other two helped up the young punk, who was nearly unconscious from pain, and promptly started walking. They were terrified that if they delayed even a step, they would suffer the same fate as their companion.

Fang Haibing delivered the men directly to Zhao Hanchuan.

The two exchanged a look, followed by a flurry of knowing glances. However, worried Yunyi might notice something amiss, they quickly got down to business.

After giving her statement and leaving her address, Yunyi left the Public Security Bureau.

Two days later, Yunyi received her payment of five hundred yuan and a ticket for a sleeper berth back to Ji Province, departing in two days. Only then did she bid farewell to Gui Kairong and leave.

Speaking of payment, actors in this era didn’t earn such high wages. Yunyi’s sum had been approved by Gui Kairong through special channels.

After all, Yunyi’s participation had saved the film crew a significant amount of time, allowing them to complete all filming half a month ahead of schedule, which alone saved a considerable sum on film stock.

Before boarding the train, Yunyi made a special trip to the Public Security Bureau to check on the situation.

The one who received her was Zhao Hanchuan. ”Comrade Chu, those three have confessed everything. Rest assured, we will not bend the law for personal reasons, nor will we let any criminal escape justice.”

Yunyi glanced past him. ”May I ask who was behind those three?”

Zhao Hanchuan explained the situation to Yunyi. ”Comrade Chu, please don’t worry. I will notify you once the final verdict of the case is out.”

It turned out that after Zhang Xueyan had arranged for people to tail Yunyi, she grew afraid of being implicated. So, she told her family she was going out to relax and then went into hiding.

And Zhao Hanchuan? He was Huo Jingrui’s childhood best friend.

Before Jingrui left, he specifically instructed me about this. At the time, I thought he was making a big deal out of nothing. I never expected the Luo Family’s niece to be so audacious as to actually hire someone to harm another person. Since Yunyi wants to keep a low profile, I naturally won’t let Luo Yihai know about this before there’s a result. Once we apprehend the culprit, even if Luo Yihai has extraordinary influence, he’ll be powerless to do anything.
