Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 353: Chapter 353: Waiting to Watch the Show

Yunyi extended her spiritual power to peek into the makeup room. Ding Yiman was inside, applying makeup. ”You have a scene in the first act,” Yunyi said. ”Ding Yiman is in there doing her makeup now. Given her personality, she’ll definitely dawdle and might cause delays. Let me do your makeup.”

Murong Linna cooed, ”I knew Yiyi treated me best.”

Yunyi playfully slapped her own arm a few times. ”So cheesy.”

Laughing and joking, they entered the makeup room. Instead of going deep inside, they found a spot near the entrance. Yunyi took out her own makeup kit and began to apply Murong Linna’s makeup, occasionally glancing towards Ding Yiman further in, waiting for the show to begin.

She had already figured out what had been mixed into the powder.

It had to be said, Zhang Xueyan was truly devious; her methods of harming others were incredibly cunning. Once the powder touched the skin, it would cause unbearable itching within half an hour. Yet, unlike other substances, it wouldn’t produce any red rashes or similar marks.

Yunyi also suspected that Zhang Xueyan likely had an antidote. If she were to release it near the affected person, the symptoms would quickly subside, leaving absolutely no trace of evidence.

I really don’t know where she got this stuff,

Yunyi mused. Judging by her practiced technique, this probably isn’t the first time she’s used it to harm someone.
Yunyi’s guess was spot on. Ding Yiman had indeed finished her makeup but remained in her seat, deliberately hogging the spot to make Murong Linna late for her own makeup, indirectly trying to make her look foolish.

Too bad for Ding Yiman; with Yunyi present, her scheme wouldn’t succeed.

Ding Yiman was also a little curious. It was getting so late. Where’s Murong Linna? Could she still be sleeping in? Looks like she’s definitely in for a scolding today.

Time was almost up; even if Murong Linna arrived now, it would be too late. Only then did Ding Yiman finally stand up, preparing to head to the waiting area.

Her arrogant demeanor was so dismissive of everyone around her that she completely failed to notice Yunyi and Murong Linna sitting near the entrance, whispering to each other.

However, as soon as Ding Yiman reached the waiting area, her face began to feel incredibly uncomfortable. Patting it repeatedly did nothing to help; the itch was so intense she desperately wanted to scratch.

But she had to keep her composure. She knew she had scenes to film later. If she scratched her face and left a mark, she’d be ruined.

She had worked so hard to land this role; she absolutely couldn’t afford any mistakes now.

She initially tried to endure it, but the itching grew increasingly intense. She couldn’t stand it any longer and suddenly cried out, ”ARGH!”

Her cry startled everyone in the waiting area.

Gui Kairong saw her state and knew instantly that something was wrong. He quickly stood up and hurried over. ”What’s the matter with you?”

Ding Yiman kept slapping her face, now covered in red finger marks. ”Director, my face is unbearably itchy!”

Everyone was already staring at her face, and upon hearing her words, their eyes widened further as they tried to see what was wrong. But aside from the red marks from her own slapping, there was nothing else visible.

The on-set doctor was called over, but even after a careful examination, he couldn’t find anything wrong.

That was the insidious nature of the substance: colorless and odorless, its cause was undetectable by ordinary means.

Zhang Xueyan, seeing her plan to harm Yunyi had failed, was just about to leave when she heard Ding Yiman’s cry. After hearing Ding Yiman’s explanation, she was bewildered. I clearly told the makeup artist to hide that stuff. How on earth did Ding Yiman get hit by it?

However, she didn’t immediately step forward to administer the antidote. Instead, she watched from a distance for a while. Only when Ding Yiman was nearly driven mad by the itching did Zhang Xueyan slowly approach and discreetly release the antidote.
